2 out of 5 eggsNot what I was expecting...

Pros: Decent card, plays some of my older games at max settings (Oblivion, C&C3)
Lifetime Warranty (if you register)

Cons: Not what I was expecting. When I ordered I thought I was going to get the pictured reference card (picture has since been changed to the one now sent in the box, early bird gets the worm I guess).

Casing around the card and cooling fan is rather cheap, I doubt if that tiny little fan will cool anything, and the positioning is different than the reference card's fan, its current position doesn't make sense with the vents cut in the housing for airflow.

Other Thoughts: I'm either gonna scrap this card and put it in a different rig and save up for a 6970, or void the warranty and put an aftermarket cooler on it. As it is, that thing is sure gonna fry with the "quality" fan they sent it with.

Since Newegg changed the picture, I'm doubting if they would rma it for a reference card.

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointed and Disgust

Pros: Nothing

Cons: I got a non-reference card; spite of me calling and confirming "Am I going to get reference card"

Other Thoughts: Card I receive was OPEN, sealed was broken.
Cooling casing (Fan and shroud) looks and Feel
Very Cheap.
I have called the NewEgg and they will get back to me 3-4 business days....... :(

1 out of 5 eggsVery Upset!

Pros: Fast Shipping for a used product.

Cons: This is not the card shown in the picture. NOT EVEN CLOSE. The Visiontek video card I received was already opened. The sticker on the anti static plastic was ripped off. There were finger prints on the back side of the card. I am not happy to be buying a used product for full price. Who knows what the other person did to it. But the person returned it because they figured out it wasn’t a reference card.

1 out of 5 eggsA sheep in wolf's clothing

Pros: It has the same external box as the real card.

Cons: THE CARD IN THE PICTURE IS NOT THE CARD YOU RECEIVE.

The pictured card is the original AMD reference version.

You will receive is a non-reference version, which lacks the shader unlock and extreme overclocking possibilities (aka- it cannot be flashed to outperform a stock 6970). It also has the cooling fan directly underneath your CPU, so if you have a Noctua, that means it's right in line with your CPU's heat output.

Other Thoughts: ----------- PAGE BREAK BETWEEN CARD VARIANTS ----------

Those who bought the card BEFORE July 1st seem to have gotten the legitimate AMD reference card.
Those who bought the card AFTER July 1st are getting the knockoff.

5 out of 5 eggsThis is what you want

Pros: This is the 6950 you want! This is one of the VERY few 2GB 6950's that will flash to a 6970. With the flash you are unlocking the extra shaders in the card plus overclocking it to 880 MHZ. If you screw up flip the bios switch on the top of the card and your good.

Cons: LONG and FAT( thats what she said) GPU!!
I was considering going with a second one but man theres gonna be a gap of about 1/4th of an inch to separate the two and IDK how well this will work with airflow?!

Other Thoughts: Despite what some people may say this car runs pretty cool and is not loud at all. It's nice that you can overclock it but make sure you got enough juice in your power supply to run this along with your other components. Your going to want at least a 600watt PSU and something decent like a silver rating.

4 out of 5 eggsBait and Switch w/ the Visiontek FIX!

Pros: The 6950 2/ 2GB is a beast. Tearing through the games I play at full settings (including Bad Company 2) Runs quiet except for immediately after start-up.

Cons: Runs hot in my case. (because it's the non reference, so heat gets pushed into the case (out the side of the card) instead of out the back of the case, out the end of the card.
I did not receive the card pictured. I received a "revision card" (neweggs terminology when I called them) The "revision" card has the fan(not the reference fan) in the middle like other non reference designs, no backplate, the cooler "cage" is not completely filled in like the reference design, no bios switch.
Newegg offered me a full return on my purchase.. I dont want my money back I want the card I ordered (they can't give me the one I ordered because newegg is now out of stock and apparently have no way of knowing which card they send me when teh manf changes revisions they get what they get..

Other Thoughts: Calling visiontek they informed me they do infact have the reference design, and were more than happy to RMA it for me to swap them. I have to send them my card first (which is fine) and then they will send me the reference version. Just beware of this, the Visiontek guy told me the marketing is changing as well as their website, so hopefully these things will be sorted out, but visiontek and newegg should really worktogether more closely to identify these changes so that consumers can get what they paid for. Thank you newegg and visiontek for working with me.
One egg off for the mixup, not for the cards performance!

5 out of 5 eggsNickel backplate

Pros: This model has the nickel backplate on it...which no one else seems to have mentioned.

Cons: This model has the nickel backplate on it...which is now DISCONTINUED!

Other Thoughts: Not sure why they discontinued this model. The newer VisionTek model has no BIOS switch, nor backplate. Why???

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I have 2 of these running in CrossfireX mode.

I was able to unlock them both no problem. One clocks to 1040 Mhz the other maxed out at 980. Very respectable IMO.

The memory is top notch both can run at 1500 Mhz all day long.

I am currently running my cards at 950 and 1480 just to give a little buffer. If you do this you need to adjust the stock fan profile via MSI afterburner or similar software. It will run too hot if you don't.

Cons: Price?

Other Thoughts: Don't hesitate to buy one or more of these cards, they're great!

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Card, but huge.

Pros: This card is amazing as is, but truly a bargain once flashed to a 6970 bios. My tech knowledge is relatively high, there IS a reason the 6950 is NOT a 6970, you flash your card at your own risk. Most people (myself included) have had ZERO problems flashing successfully to a 6970+overclocking.

Overclocking results
-Stock 6950 Clocks (800 core/1250 memory)
-Sapphire Bios flash (880 core/1375 memory)
-Max overclock (950 core/1475 memory)

Conclusion, another 6950 seemingly binned for no apparent reason!

Cons: This card is LONG make sure it'll fit inside your case(My p183 needed 1 drive cage removed). It also pulls slightly more power than a true 6970 (once flashed).

Other Thoughts: This card pulls approximately 60-70 more watts under load while flashed, make sure your psu is up to the job, and keep an eye on your temps(anything below 85c on the 6xxx cards is acceptable).

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic GPU for the money

Pros: - Plays every single game I can throw at it at ultra settings and 1080p
- Mine unlocked to a 6970 2 GB very easily

Cons: None!

Other Thoughts: People bad mouth Visiontek all the time, they are a fantastic company, never had an issue with them
