This card delivers screaming performance and manhandles any task you give it. And if you’re man enough to handle it this card is SLI ready so you can add another one for unparalleled performance.
Of course, the card is built for Vista. It will easily handle any version you want to throw at it. And with Vista you get DirectX 10 and Shader Model 4.0 support which enables you to play the most advanced games on the market. Dedicated processing cores and software delivers a vivid, lifelike picture free of the annoying artifacts and imperfections you get from standard PC-based video solutions.

Very Fast Card
- Pros: With an Opteron 170 running at 2.42GHz, 4GB PC3200 ram, 2 Sata hard drives in raid 0, a 7900GTX card, and a 500W PSU with 36A on the 12V rails, it was finally getting to the point where I had to turn game settings down to 1024x768 and Low details, just to run smooth in Vista 64-bit. With this card, on the same vista install, EVERYTHING I run is at 1600x1200 with 4x, 6x or 8xAA and 16xAF, and all programs run as fast or faster at the higher settings. (Except Counter-Strike Source and Half-Life 2: Lost Coast stress tests - but the source engine is supposed to be cpu limited - and they ran better in Widows XP Pro.)
I'm now using a 700W psu with 40A on the 12V rail.
- Cons: Maybe the price.
My 500W with 36A was almost the minimum requirement to run this card. (500W and 35A is listed on the box as minimum) I basically had to add $100 to the price for a new power supply.
The card is long, which I'm sure other people have stated. (I finally got it in my mid-tower case.)
- Other Thoughts: I'm using the 158.45 BETA driver from nvidia.
2560x1600 resolution? No problem!
- Pros: Running C&C3, SupCom, etc @ 2560x1600 on a Dell 30" with all options maxed out, the 8800 acts like it's not even tasked. The fan kicks in intermittently, but certainly not for long.
- Cons: HUGE: with an Asus A8 Premium MB (unsure of exact model at the moment, I'm at work) the 8800 literally crushes the SATA HD connectors. They still work, but the fit is extremely tight. LOUD: when the card gets hot, I get an audible "whirring" sound for a few seconds, then it settles down under the din of normal operations. No biggie, just something for people to be aware of (it's NOT quiet).
- Other Thoughts: Minus one point for not offering the water-cooling module separately. The extra few hundred for water cooling on the same card is completely ridiculous - water cooling should almost be mandatory for as hot as the card can get. Very happy with purchase and would recommend it to anyone with huge monitors (24+").

Super Card
- Pros: Ridiculously powerful. Ive had this card for more than a year and it is still owning every new game that has come out on the market (even crysis and crysis warhead!)
- Cons: Its hot literally. In my case with and extra fan attached it still gets way over 70c when playing crysis and without and extra powerful fan the game will freeze in a half hour.
- Other Thoughts: Get at least a 750Watt power supply and a good processor so you don't bottle neck your system. SLIing this card will make it impossible to keep cool.
Pass on this one
- Pros: its a has been Ultra
- Cons: This card is the same as a 8800 GTX just slightly over clocked which you can do too a GTX as well to match this for alot cheaper even. 3dmark scores dont score well with this card or 3 of them even compared to 2.0 pci cards for cheaper.
- Other Thoughts: this card does not scale well and gives little to no performace gain over cheaper 2.0 pci cards at this point.
Hot Hot Hot
- Pros: I have 2 of these bad boys on sli (even though one would be plenty for just about every game out right now) and they have eaten through everything i've thrown at them (half life 2, portal, unreal 3, bioshock... the list goes on). Things got even better when nvidia released the geforce physx drivers. So now if i really dont need the graphics power, I can turn off sli and devote one of these cards to physics (however the game needs to be physx compatable). So if you get one or two of these, dont load the drivers from the disk, go to nvidia's website and look for the newest drivers. This is the best you can get for a PCI x16 motherboard.
- Cons: HOT! On stock settings these things have a base temp of 75 C! I had to go into the nvidia control panel and jack the fans up to almost %100 power (hope they dont burn out) bringing it down to 65 C, but it still hits the 71-73 C mark on load (not to mention some extra noise). If you have any heat problems at all fix it before you get one of these (i no longer have a need for a space heater in the winter). Even if you dont have heat problems, after market heatsinks or water cooling might be a good call for this card. These cards are also very big, you WILL need a full tower case. They are around 13 inchs in length, giver or take. One Last con, this card is power hungry. I havent had any hang ups in this aspect thanks to my 1,200 watt PSU, but be ready to see a few new numbers on your power bill.
- Other Thoughts: It's kind of costly, but if you havent made the switch to a x16 2.0 mobo it's worth every penny. As long as you prepare for it's demands you wont have any problems.
