The GeForce 8 series offers a complete family of graphic cards ready to meet the unique needs of their users. The series features a unified DirectX 10 Shader Model 4.0 & Open GL 2.1 architecture for stunning 3-D graphics and textures. With 10-bit per channel output, the 8 series produces higher fidelity color and separation. In addition, the cards support SLI and NVIDIA's PureVideo HD.
The 8800GS delivers blistering video and graphic performance with its 754 million transistors, easily handling anything your games dish out. Faster video processing, atmospheric effects, multiple lighting effects and other high-demand graphic effects are rendered without la gin high definition. 96 stream processors are fed by 384MB of 192-bit GDDR3 SDRAM running at 1900MHz to deliver a full 2560 x 1600 resolution.
The 650MHz core clock keeps everything moving, and the 400MHz RAMDAC and twin dual-linked DVI let you output to multiple and large monitors. Video can also be streamed via the HDTV or S-Video outputs for greater flexibility. The 8800GS hits the mark for price while delivering high-end graphic performance.

Best budget value?
- Pros: Best budget card value? Arguably. This card does pretty much anything the 8800 and 9600 GT's can do at normal resolutions for *at least* $30-$50 less. Runs CoH maxed with no issues whatever on my "primitive" Dell Dimension 521 (AMD 64x2 4200, 3GB RAM, WinXP) and *just fits* the case. I did have to install a new PSU, though another of this card's selling points is is relatively low power draw compared to the 8800 and 9600GT's. A very capable card for 90% of users at a great price, with eVga quality/reliability. Oh, and mine runs *much* quieter than the eVga 7600GT it replaced.
- Cons: Well, it's kind of a black sheep/white elephant of a card. For awhile Nvidia denied that they'd even retail a 8800GS specification, and now that it's been on the market for all of 4 months they're re-branding it (as the 9600GSO - go figure). Only 2 manufacturers selling the specification stateside (we'll see about the 9600GSO).
- Other Thoughts: I say grab this deal while you can, if you're the average user who's looking for G92 chip capability in a card that will do pretty much anything its more expensive counterparts will in standard resolutions. Will the otherwise-identical 9600GSO's be more expensive?
a 95% 8800GT
- Pros: All I can say is that fortunately I downgraded from 8800GT to this. Didn't notice any change in performance and saved over $70. My 3DMARK06 result: 8800GT=12154, this=11510, enough said.
- Cons: Tiny scratches & nicks all over the card, maybe caused by rough assembly or packing.
- Other Thoughts: This is the ONLY 8800GS that uses Nvidia's original 10-layer PCB, the EXACT same one also used on the reference 8800GT. XFX uses generic 6-layer PCB...

update
- Pros: to update my last review..... i had to back it down to the overclocked settings, it was freezing and i was getting fragments
- Cons: none
worth every penny
- Pros: was able to overclock this puppy to 721/1025, even though its already factory overclocked. this gpu is well worth the money.
- Cons: the better buy is the stock evga 8800gs, it will overclock to the same speeds but is cheaper, was out of stock when i went to order.
- Other Thoughts: this 8800gs combined with a e4600 @ 3.2 and 4 gigs of ddr2 800 gives me a score of 11495 on 3dmark06 in a Dell e520. thats as good as some 8800gt scores. all for under $500 bucks, thats what i call a budget gaming rig if ive ever seen one lol. my kid loved my rig so much i gave it to him and will build another for myself.
EVGA Rebate Status
- Pros: Just a follow-up. Bought this at a local B&M on 05/14, still no problems. Mailed in the rebate on 05/20, received the rebate check on 06/21. Quickest rebate processing I've ever experienced.
- Cons: None.
- Other Thoughts: My original review is Great Value by N/A posted on 05/15. EVGA rebate processing ROCKS! So does NewEgg!
