great card
- Pros: price! great budget card! runs almost everything relatively well, crysis on low.
- Cons: none
- Other Thoughts: on a tight budget i reccommend this
This Card Is Factory Underclocked
- Pros: I own the 8800gs version, but when people are guessing that the stock cooler wouldnt handle an OC... well, it's their loss. I'd have to say non-OC versions are severely underclocked. This will handle an OC up to 680 core easy (it's what factory OC cards come at as well). For the money, I dont think there is a better card.
- Cons: None if you got this at $40-50. You get what you pay for.
- Other Thoughts: I did a step up from the 8800gs to the 9800gtx+. If I had to buy a replacement card, I'd probably get the 8800gs/9600gso (at $40) if my current card crapped out.
Excellent budget gamer card
- Pros: Excellent price point for the performance delivered at the time of this review. (9/22/08) Only requires a 400w PSU and a single PCI-E power plug. In addition, this card is only a single-slot form factor as well. At 1280x1024 with max settings and 16x AA, I observed 120+ FPS in Halflife 2: Episode Two and around 80 FPS in Far Cry at similarly high settings. Its no NX280, but for the money it rocks
- Cons: It is long enough that it could potentially block SATA ports if you're not careful about motherboard selection. The card is also decently warm to the touch after running awhile, though I have observed absolutely no performance degradation from extended use or any other issues.
- Other Thoughts: Because of its single-slot width, I'd imagine that cooling could become an issue if overclocked. There is another version of this same card that is a double-width, which means better cooling & at nearly the same price - I'd go with that one if I was dead set on OC'ing this card.
Setup tested was on a stock-clocked 64x2 5200+, MSI K9N2G Neo-FD, 2GB Gskill DDR2 800@ 5-5-5-15 & 1.9v (stock) w/stock air cooling in a Raidmax Ares case.
