Great Video Card
- Pros: Beats my 9800GTX+ to the dust. Run anything i throw at it with full AA on, and everything all the way up.
- Cons: Actually a tad bigger then my 9800GTX+
Uses a lot of power. (knew that when buying tho) Price was pretty high.
- Other Thoughts: Great GPU. Costs a lot but its worth it. If your looking for a high end GPU this things it.
Fails after a year
- Pros: It was a great card until it started to fail. Could run pretty much every latest game at max settings, thought I'd be using this thing for years.
- Cons: Full screen artifacting whenever I load up a 3D game, nearly exactly one year after I first bought the thing. Works fine with 2D stuff, but if I only played 2D games, I would've bought a different card. It's not like I was constantly pushing the card, either - I went 2 months without gaming at one point. I never registered the card with EVGA, so no hope of replacement.
I downloaded EVGA's "precision" tool and set the fan to 100%. It lasted 3 extra minutes in TF2 before crashing.
- Other Thoughts: Thank goodness I beat Mass Effect 2 before this card gave up the ghost. I'll be replacing this with a 5850, and you can bet money on me registering the new card.
Still an AWESOME Card!!!
- Pros: Speed, speed, speed!!! This card is very fast! Even with today's games, it tears through them with ease! Use two of these bad boys in SLI, and you have one killer machine. Or, do what I did and have 3 of them! Pretty much overkill, but it will rip through every game out today, and many more in the future. PhysX is a very nice touch in games today! Really adds something different in pc games instead of the same old, same old. These cards handle PhysX very well. Batman and Cryostasis look amazing!!
- Cons: Runs hot, but what card doesn't that has this kind of power? Even the newer 285's still run hot, so its to be expected. If you have two of these cards, they will still out perform the newer GTX295 twin gpu card.
- Other Thoughts: I still love these cards, they are really fast, play Direct X 10 games, and are very reliable. I think the people who have issues with the 280's overclock the *ell of out them for bragging rights on the 3D Mark scores. There is really no advantage to overclocking these cards in games. You can push this card to the max and you might gain 1-2 fps. Not worth shortening the lifespan if you ask me. Now, overclocking your i7 cpu, now thats another story. It makes a HUGE difference in games when you push your cpu. These cards do require a very fast cpu to take full advantage of the available computing power they offer. They process data so fast, they need a fast cpu to keep feeding it data. Many benchmarks have confirmed that you can get more fps and performance in games if you overclock your cpu. Slower cpu's are just a bottleneck for this card.
