2 out of 5 eggsHit and Miss

Pros: I bought this card in August 2011 to replace my Radeon 4870 card. At first it was great, with fantastic graphics until a few months ago.

Cons: I recently started noticing the heat from the card. It was almost always hot, hot, and more hot when I used my desktop. And the card was always loud from the time I bought it. I thought it would've been the opposite. I have to RMA but I'm wondering will they send another DS card, which would make be very unhappy as this card seems to be no longer for sell on Newegg and on EVGA's site (where I actually purchased it).

Other Thoughts: I'm a gamer and my comps are built for that purpose, so I usually use top rated hardware when I can afford it. EVGA is probably the only brand of NVidia cards I buy from (had 3 cards from them before) and I will buy from them again.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

I am sorry to hear your card is running hot. The DS model exhausts heat into the case and not out the back of the case. You may want to try adding exhaust fans to keep the ambient temperture down. You can also use our precision program to turn up the fan speed (evga.com/precision). If you do have to RMA it and we have another tested DS model it would be replaced with the same model. If we do not it would be replaced with something of equal or greater performance.

2 out of 5 eggsStay away!

Pros: The card will eat anything I throw at it! Super fast.

I do like the light up EVGA logo on the side.

Cons: I purchased a card with a faulty fan. Card works fantastic. The faulty fan vibrates causing this internal buzzing sound when the fans go above 40% speed.

I contacted EVGA and they were very happy to replace the entire card for me but, I have a card that works great! I just wish I was able to just get the replacement Fan. I can't be without my PC since its for work so. I have one faulty fan on the card and I am having a very difficult time trying to find a replacement.

I have emailed Power logic to see if I may order a replacement fan since I don't want to have to ship the entire card back for RMA for a simple fan replacement.

This will probably be my last EVGA card of this design..

Single fan from now on!

Other Thoughts: I have been a strong supporter of EVGA and this is the first time I have been burned by a card of theirs.

Manufacturer Response:

3 out of 5 eggsAmazing Video Card

Pros: This card is an absolute beast. It can handle any and every game with easy, and runs nice and cool.

Cons: The only thing that prevents me from giving this card anything more than 3 eggs, is the sound that the fan is making. Since day 1 the fan makes this weird buzzing noise that only seems to happen when it is running at low speeds. The sound is extremely annoying, and can be heard over game play.

Other Thoughts: I love your cards, EVGA. But, the fan buzzing noise is a real downer.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

I do apologize if you are having a problem with the fan. If you would like to have it exchanged please contact our 24/7 technical support (888)-881-3842 so we can assist you further.

5 out of 5 eggsLOOK FORWARD TO BELOWS POST

Pros: Looking forward to what the below post finds out.

I have been running this GPU for a few months now and have had excellent performance from this.

Crysis 2 ULTRA settings - 50-70 FPS
Battlefield 3 ULTRA settings - 55-80 FPS
LOTRO beyond ULTRA settings - 70-110 FPS
Metro 2033 ULTRA settings - 50-75 FPS

idle temp - 32 - 34 degrees.
gaming in ultra for hours average temp - 72 - 78 degrees.

Simple O/C tools provided by EVGA with the Precision tool.

Cons: Will run a bit loud when running hot and fans kick in to higher rpms.

Other Thoughts: I am looking to SLI this card and a few posts have me nervous, hence why I am looking forward to the below posters reviews.

I think some may be having trouble with this card b/c it can get very hot. I had to originally move a few case fans and PSU to change the airflow within my case. It would run everything just fine until I turned on a game and my system would shut down b/c of a heat pocket.

Simple movement of case fans and have had no problems since.

5 out of 5 eggsTO EVGA CUSTOMER REPRESENTATIVE

Pros: Here is a Quote by the EVGA rep who is here to help people who have had a bad experience....

"I do apologize for any confusion. We do not refurbish cards, we do recertify cards. Refurbished cards are cards that have been rebuilt, recertified cards are ones that have been returned for a number of reasons, but were tested and 100% functional. If you are experiencing problems with multiple cards, and we have tested them but cannot reproduce any problems with the card, this would indicate you may have a larger problem in the system. If you like you can contact me directly, Matth@evga.com, and I would be happy to assist you in troubleshooting to find the root problem.

Now, Please here me when I say this because you could just be mistaken....

Cons: When someone says they have returned 3 cards in an RMA because of them being defective you could be correct and he could have something wrong with his system causing a larger issue.
However, Did you ever consider that when you test a card that comes back that you dont play Metro 2033 for 3 or 4 hours in a sitting?? You need to consider the amount of reviews here that have had heat issues with the card. Granted a lot of people have issues because they want to run SLI with 580s and dont realize they need a very high output Power supply to run two 580s. And some people just have issues with their system. But when someone has gotten 3 bad cards in a row I would think you would next day air him a new one. Customer Service is what EVGA is known for. Everyone speaks highly of it. Dont lose sight of the fact that you are what you are because of those who purchase your products!

Other Thoughts: To everyone else. EVGA is a great company. And they still are even if they are changing their policies a bit. Not many keeps video cards over 4 or 5 years. EVGA warranty is sufficient and better then most. They do back their products. I just cant see why this card is having so many issues so I am going to buy one and see for myself.
I have purchased over 35 EVGA video cards in the past year alone. And I only ever had one card go bad from them and I had a brand new one in one week from the day I shipped it. Not everything goes perfect all the time. If you are the person who had a bad experience then maybe it is JUST YOU. Not them!

3 out of 5 eggsFast when it works.

Pros: At 1920x1200 I can play near every game I own with the settings maxed out and still get excellent frame rates that don't drop anywhere near unplayable. The card is quiet, it only produces a soft hum that is drowned out by any other sound source. It runs pretty cool as well. EVGA's tech support is decently quick to correspond with you if you have problems.

Cons: The card I received from newegg ran without issue for two days before dying. I RMA'd through EVGA and the replacement has been running without issue for a week so far. My biggest issue is that after purchasing such an expensive card, EVGA sends the replacement to me with the slowest possible shipping method. Especially after I paid to send it to them and it took half the time to make it to them.

Other Thoughts: This is the third EVGA card I have owned and overall I'm marginally satisfied with how getting a replacement worked. It's hard to say if I'll purchase from them again or not.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

I do apologize if you had to RMA the card. We do offer free ground shipping for all RMA's in the US or Canada, when submitting the RMA you are given the option to purchase faster return shipping.

4 out of 5 eggsGood dual fan card

Pros: Like the design
Lightning fast
Lighting EVGA logo
Got it for $469.99 and combo with AX 1200 (-$35 + rebates = $$$)

Cons: Heat Issues. Gets to 90c+ in Metro 2033 100% fan
Can't return anymore because of the rebate. I plan on a getting a reference card instead and sli them together along with a GTX 460 as physx card.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing card

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Wish I could afford another.

1 out of 5 eggsunstatified replacement

Pros: fast

Cons: I just received my RMA replacement card for gtx 580 ds for fan noise problems. This replacement card is worse than the other one. The fan is making constant rattling noise around 80 % and above fan speed at all time. I am very disappointed and not satisfied for the replacement. I have to wait for 3 weeks for this such called a replacement card and still not working right. This replacement card appeared to be an used broken video card and came with a open label plastic bag. I could not believe EVGA would send something like this to their customers for a replacement.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

I do apologize if you are having trouble with the fan. Please contact me directly so I can assist you with this, Matth@evga.com
