- Pros: Great card for the price. Stock cooler was inadequate for me so i replaced it with an Arctic Cooling Accelero S2, and copper heatinks on all the ram and and threw on a 120mm fan with AS 5. Now idles at around 39*C and loads at 45*C with a mild overclock.
Can be run without a fan. Idles around 48*C and will overheat using ATI Tool to load the card (must use a fan, still, i can run my 120mm fan at 1000rpms and still keep it under 60*C)
- Cons: None so far. Stock cooler is kind of noisy, but to be expected.
Not pleased
- Pros: An inexpensive card. When functional, can handle quite a few games. I was play Crysis on High at 1920x1200 at a respectable 22-25 fps with this card.
- Cons: Heat, heat, heat. Without manually forcing on the fan, this card idles at ~80 C. After playing for about two hours this card peaked at 96 C, over 200 F. It's been about five months since I got this card and I am now getting tons of artifacts in game.
Not satisfied
- Pros: Powerful card that can handle quite a bit. Nice decal on the bottom.
- Cons: As one other reviewer mentioned, I'm also getting the ATIKMDAG.SYS error about twice a day. Microsoft has a support page addressing this and says it's incompatibility with my motherboard (one of the new P43 chipset Biostars) and Vista. I'm not really sure why the error would be ATI related then. In all honesty, I'm not sure where the problem lies (and nobody else seems to know either) but it COULD be with this video card. I would go with another brand or a different ATI model just to be sure because you really do not want to have to put up with this error. Trust me.
- Other Thoughts: Google the YouTube 4850 fan fix to create an ATI Overdrive profile and get your temperatures down, because they will be extraordinarily high if you don't. It's a simple process and takes little time however and is universally required for all 4850/4870 models.
