1 out of 5 eggsNo more Powercolor for me.

Pros: A quiet and good performing card, while it works anyways.

Cons: I went through two of these within a month, first one was unstable in most 3d games with hard lockups, the second one was perfect for a whole 2 weeks, then suddenly the display cut to black, the fan stopped, and it was dead.

Other Thoughts: I've got my old faithful x1800xl back in the machine, I'll be avoiding powercolor cards in the future. Newegg was great about the RMA process.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Seems very fast and video quality is quite good.

Cons: First card only lasted about a minute and a half. RMA has been running fine for about 7 weeks. Noticing some blue pixellation artifacts in America's Army game. Cannot get theater mode to display video full screen on secondary monitor with cloned displays.

Other Thoughts: Cons are comparing new card in new Vista 64 computer with an older Intel P4 XP computer with ATI X1650 card and Catalyst drivers. I can't understand why features I used in older card and drivers don't work in newer system. I'm using latest 64 bit Catalyst 9.1.

1 out of 5 eggsCard failed

Pros: Card ran fine for 1 week...

Cons: Mysteriously failed to post. Tried in 2 separate machines, but would not display any video in either. This is the first time I've had a brand new part fail within the first year of ownership... nevermind the first week!

Other Thoughts: RMA on the way.

5 out of 5 eggsPowercolor 4850 Rocks

Pros: Arrived in perfect condition. Upgraded heatsink works wonderfully. Nearly silent operation at low load. Software appropriatly ramps up fan speed as load increases. At 100% load, fan at about 60% and temps very good at about 61 deg. C. Still very quiet even at 60% Fan. Plays all of my games at highest quality settings with no problem.

Cons: Using ATI Catalyst Autotune feature to overclock this card caused video artifacts in my games. Went back to the standard settings and everything back to normal.

Other Thoughts: Reading other reviews tells me that there may be some variations in the quality of construction of this card. I have been very lucky in that everything is perfect, cool and quiet!

4 out of 5 eggsSeems OK

Pros: Good price. Easy install.

Cons: Running on Vista Home. Problems with displaying on my Sony XBR--settings wouldn't hold on reboot requiring me to go back to standard monitor to clean up. This happened several times at random.......has been OK for serveral days now.

Other Thoughts: I am running 3870s on other computers and cant see much difference with the 4850.

4 out of 5 eggsPOWERCOLOR AX4850 512

Pros: Good price for the performance. Stays cool and quiet playing both games and high-def video. I'm very happy this card so far.

Cons: The box came undamaged but the copper heat-sink had a few bent fins out of the box. It had to have happened prior to or during factory packaging; the card was secure in the box when I opened it. They weren't bent to the extent that they were touching the fins next to them so I gently bent them back and now all is good.

Other Thoughts: It runs WoW very well at 1280x1024, 24-bit color/depth 8x multisample & all settings at max. In Shatt I get 35-60 FPS (V-sync limited to 60) during peak server loads. Even during the scourge invasion in SW Harbor with hundreds of players there I was still getting 25 FPS.

This card does not flinch, jitter or drops frames during any sort of "high-def" video playback.

I paired this GPU with a Intel Core 2 Duo E8500, MSI P43 Neo3-F, PNY XLR8 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 800, XP Pro SP3 "slipstream" and the ATI/AMD drivers.

4 out of 5 eggsA decent card

Pros: A very good value. Nice power for a good price. Have no problems running Warhammer: Age of Reckoning on moderate settings. I could probably run it higher, but I prefer smooth frame rates over high quality.

Cons: First card was DOA. It's also a very large card. Make sure you can fit it in before you order. And make sure you have a good enough power supply. Also make sure you have adequate airflow and/or cooling.
