5 out of 5 eggsModify Fan then you're Good to Go

Pros: Aftermarket cooler + PCS engineering = cooler and quieter operation.

Runs anything you throw at it, even GTA IV nearly maxed (need 2GB+ vram for absolute max settings).

Cons: Use Riva Tuner to modify fan profile to have lower fan speeds for idle temps. Common issue among MANY video cards, not just this one.

Other Thoughts: Stop looking, buy it. This isn't my first PowerColor either.

1 out of 5 eggs3rd card failed

Pros: I just pulled my third powercolor 4870 card out of my computer. It failed the same way the first two did, VRM failure.
This is a know problem with Power color. google it and you will find many references.

Cons: The card runs for about 3 months before the VRM burns out. At that point, there is nothing that can be done to save the piece. It is a shame, since the GPU, memory and cooler are fine, you just can't replace the burnt out VRM.

Other Thoughts: avoid 601 LED lighting on your card, find a different supplier.

Manufacturer Response:

That is very odd. Feel free to contact me directly to see if we can work on getting this situation resolved. If there is an issue with the cooling of the VRMs on this card I'd love to know so I can hopefully recreate the issue and get it resolved. So far we've received good feedback and haven't experienced any in-house problems in regards to VRMs overheating and failing after a few months of use. I can see how inconsistent or 'dirty' power can cause something like this over time though, especially if you've had 3 cards fail the exact same way. Either way, feel free to contact me so we can hopefully resolved this. Try and reference the Newegg review in your e-mail.

5 out of 5 eggsStill going strong...

Pros: This card has served me well so far, no problems whatsoever! No fan noice, overheating, overloading, lagging, FPS drag, nadda! Its ATI!!

Cons: None! Great card for a great price.

Other Thoughts: I play PC gaming pretty frequently, in between Burnout Paradise, CoD, Flatout, Crysis, etc. This card exceeds all my expectations, i run high EVERYTHING at max of 1650x1080 res, looks great! One card to get, it will last you out!

5 out of 5 eggsWOW! FINALLY

Pros: THERE IS A BIOS FIX!! Email them about the bios fix and they will respond to you within two days with a bios fix and instructions on how to flash! This card, without a doubt, is one of the best 4870s out!

Cons: Runs warm as usual.

Other Thoughts: I got the bios fix, used my DOS boot disk and ATIFLSH to force the bios update -- Winflash doesn't do it the trick as you can't force the update.

I'm awaiting a second card -- should be waiting for me when I get home tomorrow, yippee!! I'm so darn happy!

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent product

Pros: Excellent card, good performance, 1GB of memory, good price; good cooling system; powercolor makes good products

Cons: Some fan noise, only time I've noticed it is when I run Folding@Home GPU

Other Thoughts: I'm not sure why several other reviewers bought a performance graphics card and then were surprised it produced heat and had fan noise; this is typical and this card is no exception. It shouldn't affect your buying decision - expect fan noise or go water cooled. Put it this way, in high cooling mode it's noisier than my PS3's but quieter than my Xbox 360's fans.

5 out of 5 eggsgood card

Pros: -very fast, runs anything at full setting at full 1080p.
-fan is fairly quiet.
-aftermarket cooler looks sweet
-790/1100 runs great

Cons: -flicker, but this can be fixed by simply going setting your clocks via riva tuner.
-runs extremely hot for being aftermarket cooling, the H*S card with the simple cooler runs 14c cooler idleing...this card is at 56c idle but only goes up to 72c under full load
-fan isnt that effective, cranking the fan all the way up may only gain you 1-3c

Other Thoughts: first card i got ran for an hour at stock clock and then crashed and never worked again. So i sent it back and got this one, the first card i received was much cooler at idle and under load so i dont understand what the difference is, yes i have checked to make sure i have the same version and build of the card. It runs extremely fast and I would purchase again

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: Everything I expected it to be and more. Mine was factory OC'd to 800MHz core speed for some reason, 20MHz faster than advertised.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Bought this 6 months ago and still VERY satisfied.

3 out of 5 eggsIts ok

Pros: It runs everything well. Looks nice in my case the copper strip goes well with my thermalright ultra 120 true copper, plays everything well. Empire total war on high with 4x aa

Cons: The flicker!! had to declock it like everyone else. Ati driver for xp64bit gives me random bsod's

Manufacturer Response:

This is a known issue with this model. We are working with ATI to find a solution.

4 out of 5 eggsexcellent card

Pros: plays any game i throw at it with no problems. once flicker taken care of made the system very enjoyable.

Cons: had to turn the memory speed to 900 from 925. no noticble difference in playability. running at 800 instead of 780 and runs fine

Other Thoughts: excellent card for the money running crysis very high with 4xaa and very playable frame rates no frame jumps or lag. all in all very happy
