4 out of 5 eggsSeems to be a good card

Pros: For the price, it is a good performing card. Runs very cool too, below 45C idle and below 75C full load. I noticed that the card underclocks itself depending on the load. Good news is that if you overclock, it will still go to those overclocked frequencies even with this feature. Very nice.

Cons: Powercolor forgot to run spell check on the instructions. But instructions are pretty unnecessary, these days it is put the card in and go. Fan noise moderate to loud but only on full load. With no 3D apps running it is very quiet. Not DX11. Still as much as a 4830 over a year ago. No adapters or CF bridges included.

Other Thoughts: One of these will run anything on high. Two of these will run anything.

4 out of 5 eggsVery Good product for the price!

Pros: This card is extremely well put together, packaging was fenominal (the actual packaging of the card not neweggs, even though it was equally matched). This card will play just about any basic game on basic to moderate settings, this card is the best bang for the buck, and does wonders for the price. This 4850 is very nice and im very well pleased with it, it can play 4-5 HD 1080p videos at once while on photoshop and CS:S at the same time.. (Yes i've put it through its paces). Installed right away but there was a little trouble with that.. Now to cons.

Cons: Ok well the reason i rated this card a 4of5 eggs is simply because the drivers.. The drivers that came with it didnt sit well with Windows(seven) 7 Home premium, the text got a bit etchy, and then catalyst control center couldnt pick it up either (v10.3? i think is the latest as of this review Apr 8th 2010)..

But after uninstalling and letting windows seven driver auto updater run through its stuff, i was very pleased with it, it found the correct driver that is for windows 7 and installed right away! This graphics card works very smoothly and is windows 7 driver compatible, This card is definitely a buy. And other then my pure blankness of not knowing about auto driver for the video card, deserves a 5of5 eggs besides this issue. Great card, Great buy, Very pleased..

Other Thoughts: This card is working well.. My current system:
6gig's of Ram
Quad-core amd athlon x4 620 (2.6ghz)
Power Color HD 4850

4 out of 5 eggsSolid budget card

Pros: Still running strong. Many games run at high res, some at high-medium with this card. Big upgrade from an old Nvidia gimmick I was using. Everything ran sharp and clear in DVI mode, brought this card through windows XP, vista and 7. Nice big ole' pure Cu heatsinks on memory.

Cons: Came with interesting aluminum heatsink and loud fan, which I replaced with a ZALMAN VF900. Works TERRIBLE in XP, might be the DirectX 9c limit in XP, but I would have video errors in games, overheat and cause crashes. Switched back to my older Nvidia and games ran stable. After upgrading to vista, I reinstalled the card, ran much more stable, and in windows 7 runs fine as well.

Other Thoughts: If you give this card proper cooling like I did (and a proper OS), it can be OCed a bit to give an extra kick.

2 out of 5 eggsEh...

Pros: Speed and power is great, price is okay.

Cons: I've had numerous problems regarding bus lane capability. It seemed that over time, the card itself would drop from x16 to x8 to x4 and now x1. I have switched slots, and even graphic cards of the same model but different manufacturers. It remains x1 and practically useless.

5 out of 5 eggsNice Card

Pros: Using it in crossfire with a Powercolor bd. I bought a year ago. I am very happy I decided to go the crossfire route. The bd. has good cooling and works great with the older bd.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Better get these while they last.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat card even if a generation old

Pros: Great card, got it back in October and have been quite satisfied with it's performance. Been able to play any game I have at max settings with no stuttering. Thinking of maybe saving up and getting a second for Crossfire, but by that time it may be better just to get a DX 11 card.

Cons: At this point, none. Had the card a few months now and no complaints.

Other Thoughts: My system:
Foxconn ELA P45 motherboard/w Crossfire support
Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 2.33GHz
8GB RAM
Windows 7 Home Premium
1600x900 Hanns-G monitor

5 out of 5 eggsWORKS GREAT

Pros: great card, cant find a problem with it, i moved from a xfx 8400 to this so i would'nt know much but with this new card i can play anything i want ive installed top demos, benchmarked it on yougamers and i tops everything, soon i might crossfire, and look up OC on internet to see what i can get out of it but it has its own interface to OC but i think it would be better to do it in the Bios

Cons: my computer shuts down and restarts or freezes alot more than the xfx infact the xfx never had these problems but then again it could be another componet

Other Thoughts: my rig
OS: windows xp 32bit
this card
AMD phenom(tm) II x4 945
2 gigs of ddr3 1066 ram (going to upgrade this soon tho)
120 hard drive
and thats my computer about

3 out of 5 eggsGreat card but cant get it to work with my hdtv

Pros: Plays everything i want, doesnt overheat.

Cons: Neither catalyst controller nor w7 will recognize that i have my hdtv hooked up in the hdmi slot. on boot the bios screen and the loading screen for w7 both show up on my normal lcd (through dvi) however when the login in screen loads the hdtv loses signal. neither catalyst controller nor windows7 detect the hdtv.

heatsink feels a lil bit cheap

Other Thoughts: i am able to go into the bios and play around and still have both screens. im thinking its a driver compatibility issue with windows 7. Also had an old system with vista and 3850 the hookup worked with the dual dvi slots so its not the tv

The reason i took 2 eggs off is my issue hooking it up to the hdtv really doesnt allow me to use it in the manner in which i originally intended

4 out of 5 eggsVery Pleased : )

Pros: I just installed the gpu a few hours ago. Tested a few games and internet video. Then Threw in a blue ray movie. The new release of Star Trek. And I saw, and it was good. I've heard that ati was best for movies. And I wasn't disapointed. And also a surprise for me was better audio. I don't know if it's the drivers or audio is processed through the card, but it's clearly HD as well as the video. I bought this card for my media pc. And so far it's just what i'd hoped it would be.

Cons: too early to tell. I'll make another review if I have problems later.

Other Thoughts: I just complained about the packaging earlier today, when I recieved the item. Seems like just dumb luck the cooling fan wasn't damaged. That hasn't changed. I won't be buying another Powercolor product. I feel lucky that the item actually worked, considering the lack of product protection. But I will be purchasing another Ati product.

1 out of 5 eggsPowercolor packaging sucks !

Pros: I have not installed the card yet. Hope it works.

Cons: Powercolor packaging is pathetic ! I can see indents in the cardboard where pressure from another package was pushing against this package and was setting directly on the cooling fan. I can also see points of pressure on the static protective bag. The circuit board has a bend in it. I will have to bend it straight to get it into the pci-e slot. I don't know if the bend in card is from the another box sitting on this one, or from the cooler screws pulling on the corners. AGAIN, Powercolor did a very poor job of protecting it's product from damage that can occur from shipping and handling.

Other Thoughts: On the other hand, Newegg did package the item very well. And very possibly kept the the cooing fan from further damage or stress.

- Thanks Newegg.

Manufacturer Response:

If the card doesn't function properly feel free to contact me directly and I will assist you with this matter. We haven't had other issues similar to this so I'd assume that for whatever reason, that box went through some very rough times. In all other circumstances this packaging has held up. Either way, contact me if you require assistance, my e-mail is hugo@powercolor.com, and please be sure to reference this review. Thanks.

-Hugo
