5 out of 5 eggs

Comments: I have had this card for over a month now and I must say it has exceeded my expectations. Softmodded without a hitch and have not seen artifacts even in the most demanding games, Farcry, doom3, BF vietnam, cod, ut2004, live2005, pga tour 2005 all smooth. Have a GF 5900 in my sons similiar machine, GIG of ram in both and the benchmarks are close, just under 6000 on 3dmark03 with athlon 2500's oc'd to above 3200 speeds, motherboards are the only difference. Even when the card is not softmodded in runs all these games very well with just 4 pipes open and scored 4000 on 3dmark03 so don't worry either way its worth the money. Just don't screw up and buy the 128bit version.

Comments: this card is the best buy the soft mod worked perfectly for me. spend 15 or 20 on a artic cooling heatsink and you have an xt . Mine runs at 440/380 stable with no artifacts in most games. The only issue I have had after 2 months is with artifacts in Men of honor but its only very very minor. (with softmod) and yes the stocker heatsink blows.

Comments: I received the card 1 day ahead of the proposed shipping date, put it into my computer, soft modded it to open all 8 pipelines, and voila, Radeon 9800 Pro. This is a great deal. This card definitely runs hot, but I figured it would with all 8 pipelines open.

5 out of 5 eggsI have played them all

Comments: This card is just great, it runs all the games easily, and is very easy to overclock and softmod. after u softmod it it, there is a 70% chance of improvment in its performance. with 8pipes open it runs to its highest setting without a single bit of lag, and games like Far cry or Doom III are like a kids show for it. but u need a good heatsink, if u want to overclock it. it is still a great card even if u can't softmod or overclock it.
9800 is the best series.

Comments: I bought the card as an upgrade from a geforce 3, and it's awesome. The overclockablity sucks tho. and my system is watercooled. I can unlock the other 4 pipes, but there's artifacts in doom 3. This card runs VERY hot with all 8 pipes unlocked.

Additionally, I had some issues overclocking my computer while all 8 pipes were unlocked - like the screen was colored snow until I set it back to 4 pipes!!! Luckly it recovered. The card is still a great upgrade though. I have yet to put ram sinks on it, so that might help it's overclockablity.

Comments: I got this card 4 months ago, I was able to softmod it into a Pro without having checkerboards or anything except in some very rare situations where there are intensive particles, for example, when Imps shoot fireballs at you in Doom 3 I "might" notice some very little checkerboards, but most of the time I don't. I played many games with it, UT2k4, NFS:UND, Painkiller, The Suffering, The Sims 2, Warcraft III Forzen Throne, C&C Generals Zero Hour, FarCry, Prince of Persia, Ground Control II and others.. And it worked perfectly in all games, with high resolution, AA and AF most of the time. I really love this card, my only gripe about it is it's heat dissipation, it becomes very hot when gaming because it has a poor stock HSF, but I don't care that much because I don't overclock.

4 out of 5 eggsNice Card

Comments: Great Card for the money and overclocks well even with stock cooling overclocked to 420/720. Only reason its a 4 out of 5 is the tv out doesn't seem to work. Mine would not mod without the good ol checkerboard but that's ok it's still 4300 in 3dmark03 and plays all my games on high or really close to high.

Comments: Bought this card several weeks ago and wanted to spend some real time testing it to be able to give an informed review. I choose this card based on the success rate of unlocking all 8 pipes. This card (based on customer reviews) has about an 80% chance of success. Here's my story:

Opened all 8 pipes without a problem with the Omega drivers at www.omegadrivers.net! Sweet! Also ran ATITool to check for artifacts. No artifacts at stock clock speeds, but do get some if I push the card much more. But who cares since it's a 9800 Pro without any artifacts for a 9800se price! It was a welcome change from my tired Radeon 8500.

If you are looking for a good card at a budget price and are willing to take a relatively safe gamble, this is the card for you.

AthlonXP(barton) 2500+@3200+ (2.2Ghz)
AsRock K7V88 motherboard
512mb Crucial PC3200
Powercolor 9800se softmodded to 9800PRO
Maxtor 30gig + Maxtor 160gig
SB Live!

Not a bad gaming rig for a low low price.

Comments: This card is alright. I guess I would be happier if I could have unlocked the other 4 pipes. It's a great card if you can unlock all 8 pipes, but with mine, I had artifacts even with water cooling, so I had to revert to just 4 pipes. :-\

I bought this card hoping to at least be better than my Radeon 9600 256MB, and it IS by far better, but couldn't turn into a 9800 Pro. That is why I give it a 3 out of 5. (4/5 for the refurbished version, because it is cheaper with everything in it.)

Comments: Unlocked all 8 pipes, had it for about 3 months now, no problems running any of the games (bf1942, call of duty, nfs: underground ..etc)
