can i use this in my z97 build alongside my gtx 970 until i purchase the parts for my x99/ video editing rig? (which it will be use by it self)

Often the i7 chip is only x16 pcie lanes supported. I can't be confident your gtx 970 will allow the nvs810 to perform well if the second pcie slot is only running in x8 or x4 mode.
