5 out of 5 eggsPNY GT 600 GeForce GT 610 1GB

Pros: Graphics work flawlessly. I can't make a recommendation about whether this would support extreme gaming, though. I think people who do extreme gaming want a 2GB graphics card.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Added this to Newegg's Acer X AXC-605-UB1F small desktop (Newegg's Item #N82E16883101209 with the included low-profile brackets, knocked out the VGA slot in the cage wall on the Acer, and discovered that the Acer's 220 watt power supply supplied plenty of power to support this graphics card. Also, BIOS is still accessible after installation, because it's Plug 'n Play.

5 out of 5 eggsPny GT 610 Video Card

Pros: Recently ordered 5 items to upgrade one of my computers. This card being one (also CPU/MOBO/Memory. Shipping was fast and Its works great as do all the items. It started right up first time I turned it on.

I am retired from IT Management (73) and do not play games. My usage is mostly with Sony Vegas Video Software and it works well.

Cons: Non so far

4 out of 5 eggsFunctional but not fast.

Pros: Has three outputs: DVI, HDMI, and VGA. The DVI and HDMI can be used separately, and the HDMI will drive displays over 1920x1080 -- my 2048x1152 Samsung 2343BWX worked just fine over an HDMI-DVI adapter. Thus it is suitable for some setups that would SEEM to require 2x dual-link DVI.

Plays nice with another nVidia card in the same system. I did have to boot the system once with ONLY the new card, but then I was able to reinstall the old card in the second x16 slot without any problems. Since both are nVidia cards, they use the same driver, so there isn't even any additional complexity there. (Yeah I'm the weird guy running two nVidia cards in an AMD system.)

Cheap. That's always nice.

Does not require a power tap from the power supply.

It is a low-profile card and comes with brackets for mounting in such cases. The VGA connector is on a ribbon cable and will take a second low-profile slot if you need a VGA output, or you can just leave it out if you only need DVI and HDMI.

Cons: Although it has three outputs, you can only uniquely use two at once. It will detect displays on all three, and you can use the third output to mirror one of the other two but not to extend the desktop.

It's also not very fast. I got it to drive a third and fourth monitor, but I had hoped it would be faster than a 9500 GT from 2011 (that cost me $55 at the time). It's not. In fact it's about 30 to 35% slower. Even if I could use all three outputs separately, the loss of speed would make me retain my old card (which also doesn't have a power tap, so don't tell me it's because of the power draw).

Other Thoughts: It's fine for the purpose I bought it for, which is driving extra monitors which won't be used for gaming. But if you are thinking "I have a cheap card from four years ago, surely this must be faster, right?" then skip it because no, it's not.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product

Pros: Worked out of the box. I upgrade to this card after a different card stopped working after 4 years. Installation was painless. Using it on a Linux Mint setup. No extra software needed. Linux detected right away. Using it for light gaming and streaming video.

Cons: None right now.

Other Thoughts: I've had the card for less than a week. Works great so far.

3 out of 5 eggsDo your research so you buy the CORRECT version of the GT 610

Pros: - Cheap card that provides modest performance. Its worth the price when its on sale - MSI GT 610 is $25 at the time of this review.

- This is a good card for internet graphics/resolution, netflix binges and office/document programs.

- Gamers in a budgeting pinch need the 2GB version , I have the 1GB and regret it - (OVERCLOCKING DIY TIPS in the "Other Thoughts")

- Some of the brands ac tually made an OK card here, I have the PNY and they put an aluminum heatsink with a fan on the GPU, not too bad for $40.

Cons: Attention Gamers:

This card is admittedly a modest gaming card. It will do OK with League/DOTA, CS:GO, other modest-graphical games. Don't expect it to play current major titles on high settings or have high FPS at its stock capacity. You'll need extra cores on your processor to make up for this card's limitations on major titles.

Other Thoughts: To Gamers on a Budget:

I'm guessing you're here because your GTX Ti blah blah is broken and you have $50 or less to spend max. Yep, same thing happened to me. This card is weak but you're stuck with it because its on sale.

MOD AND OVERCLOCK IT!!!

Overclocking this sucker could really help stretch it. But since this card wasn't "built" for overclocking, you'll need to mod it first to make it safe & effective. You'll void the warranty but its an acceptable risk because its a cheap card.

Look for a copper heatsink/fan combo you can use to replace the stock heatsink on the GT 610. Depending on how handy you are you can use a series of washers/clips to rig up a big old copper CPU cooler. If you're less adventurous, Newegg has a copper heatsink/fan specifically for graphics cards. Make sure your new video card rig fits in its slot before putting it together!

Then take it up a notch by rigging an extra fan in your case so that it blows air directly below the card. You likely have an extra fan in an old PC at home - so just use that.

With the new heatsink/fan and extra airflow under the card, the card will be sufficiently cooled for some serious overclocking.

As of 6/10/15 this mod costs

- $35 (sale) EVGA GT 610 2GB
- $12 copper heatsink/fan or $5 aluminum
- $3 extra misc case fan
- $10 high quality thermal grease
______________________

TOTAL: $55.00 tops for a 2GB DDR5 video card that you can now seriously overclock so you can game again.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect For my Needs

Pros: I have a media server in my bedroom that runs Ubuntu 14.04 on a Pentium chip hard wired to my router. I had purchased a small 28" TV and I installed this card in the box and rebooted. Everything just worked locally, and Hulu and Netflix look really good. Almost as good as my HTPC in the living room with much more serious specs.

Cons: None, so far

Other Thoughts: I do not game in any form. The onboard hardware output looked pretty lousy. I am only about 4 feet away from it, too. I cannot hear the card fan at all, even in the dark of night. I suspect it would not be very effective on a 4K 60in TV, but it sure works well for what I need.

1 out of 5 eggsPNY GT 610 VIDEO CARD

Pros: Newegg had best price, and delivery was very timely. It was easy and fairly quick to get to PNY support via telephone.

Cons: It did not work. Nothing in the specs to indicate there would be compatability issues with an older MOBO. This was not an OS issue, rather a compatability issue with the MOBO and the GPU card.

Other Thoughts: Wanted to repurpose an older PC build (Abit IP 35 Pro/ ATI Radeon 1950 GPU) into an HTPC using Windows 8.1 Pro. Card arrived timely and Newegg, as usual, had the best price. Installed card and nothing, not even the POST or boot to BIOS.! Mobo had latest BIOS installed. PNY support was very helpful, but, basically informed me the MOBO was too old. Further, unless I could find an upgraded MOBO BIOS generated later than 2012, it was unlikely I would be able to get this to work. Suggested a GT 520 or GT 430.
