5.9 Vista performance rating
- Pros: This card is incredible. I haven't gotten any work done this week because I spent all my time playing Quake4, UT2004 and Doom3, with ALL the video settings cranked to the max. Not a bit of a problem anywhere.
The video card gets a performance rating of 5.9(aero)/5.6(gaming) in Vista-64 using the latest available nvidia drivers. Don't bother with the drivers on the cd, download newer from nvidia.
- Cons: None that I can think of.
- Other Thoughts: I saw an almost identical card for sale locally at a place that supposedly has the best buys, thanks to newegg for savings in the three-digit range.
Great mid-range card
- Pros: Performs well for the money (OC's like a champ so you can save a few dollars and get this instead of one of the factory-OC'd models), quiet (usually), HDCP for high-def viewing.
- Cons: Port on card supports component output but the card only comes with an S-Video cable, makes a strange hissing noise when under certain types of load even if you stop the fan from spinning, no games included in the bundle, nVidia no longer uses separate clock speeds for 2D and 3D so it draws more power than needed when idle, 128-bit memory interface is a bit outdated.
- Other Thoughts: I upgraded to this card from a PNY 6600GT and the difference is phenomenal. I can now play Oblivion at 1680x1050 with the detail cranked pretty high and sustain frame rates in the 20-30 range.
The card OC's VERY well so there is little reason to buy one of the factory-OC'd cards, particularly since this card currently has a mail-in rebate.
The only other thing worth mentioning is that my card seems to make a strange hissing sound when under heavy load (not really noticeable unless the case is open). It's not the fan because I've stopped it with my finger and it still does it.

Wow, what a card!
- Pros: Quality, preformance, looks, value and everything else make this a tough card to beat! Very fast, very quiet, very stable!!! And man does this card make working with video and graphics a breeze! So far so great!
- Cons: What cons, we don't need no stinking cons!
- Other Thoughts: XFX has been impressing me a little more with each of thier products i use. I have used two 8600gt, one 8600 gts and one 8800 gt, all in various setups and machines. The 8800 tends to run a little warm, the others all are as good as i have used... Why take a chance, get an XFX and be sure!
Newegg rules over all computer stores on and off line!!!
Mixed Feelings
- Pros: Good price (with generous rebate) for the performance. Really improved gaming and video over my old 7600 GT AGP system. But then again, I went from 1.8 to 3.2 ghz & doubled the RAM too.
- Cons: I was very pleased until I decided to get a second one for SLI gaming. Gaming performance only improved marginally in certain games and actually got worse in others (UT III, for example). Could be that ASUS M2N-SLIDeluxe is to blame since the SLI mode only runs at 8X, while single mode runs at 16X. Should'a read the whole manual before buying!
- Other Thoughts: Rebate won't come unless you email an inquiry. I'm still waiting for the second rebate.
Good stuff
- Pros: I am currently running this card in SLi and have been contemplating upgrading heres why i haven't:
-Runs COD4 with High settigns except AA and AF -Runs Crysis on Medium -Runs Everything else on high
- Cons: I bought this when the 8 series of cards first came out, my first card cost 200 the second 150 and now its 100
- Other Thoughts: excellent card for a cheap build runs great in SLI
