Get your game on for less with XFX's GeForce 8600GT-based video card. It can handle Vista and your hottest game at highest settings with 256MB of GDDR3 memory and a core clock speed of 540MHz. When the gaming gets tough, just pop in another card and game on with twice the power!

As more games support DX10 you are going to need a card that can handle it. This GPU is designed to run DX10 with full Shader Model 4.0 support. When you add in Quantum Effects and Lumenex technology you’ll see stunning images at ultra-fast frame rates all done on the GPU. This leaves the CPU free to handle the game engine and AI.

The two dual link DVI ports can handle resolutions up to 2560x1600, letting you drive the largest monitors. The nView multi display technology makes it easy to spread your work out over two monitors. Use the primary for the main working area and the secondary for sub-screens including tools and chat windows.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I bought this back in 2007 and it lasted 13 months.

Cons: Didn't last very long.

Other Thoughts: I read online of people putting video cards in the oven to try to bring them back to life. So i gave it a shot with this one last year just for the fun of it. I laid tin foil in the bottom of a pan and took the fan off the video card and placed it on the pan upside down. I set the oven to i think 120 and baked it for 8 mins. After taking it out i let it cool for a couple hours and stuck it in an old pc. And I kid you not this thing started working again lol.

5 out of 5 eggsLasted over 6 years

Pros: Lasted over 6 years. Bought it in Dec 2007 for around $100, died in May 2014.

Cons: Didn't last forever, but then again it is obsolete now. Doesn't support DirectX 11 so won't run modern games.

Other Thoughts: Nice run for a pretty heavily used card (sons computer, lots of BF, COD, UT2K4, etc.).

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for the great review. If you still have your receipt, we can RMA this and have it replaced under the lifetime warranty.

Thank you for your continued support.

2 out of 5 eggsBad Capacitors

Pros: Decent card when it was released. Not the fastest, not the most memory, but respectable performance.

Cons: Uses cheap capacitors. 3 of the capacitors (2 x 6.3v 1500uF, and 1 x 6.3v 1000uF) popped and the card stopped working. I replaced the bad caps and it worked. This is an epidemic in the industry. XFX is using gray market, cheap parts.

Other Thoughts: When you find out about companies using inferior gray market parts you should boycott their products and show them that quality and reliability are not optional.

3 out of 5 eggsGood card, but fan noise is LOUD

Pros: Huge improvement over my 7600gt. Which is expected. Games ran smoothly at high setting whereas the old card coould only run them at medium setting.

Cons: Noise. The old Asus card was silent. The card is the loudest thing in my computer. CPU is liquid cooled, hard drive has a fan running but is dead silent.

Not sure why the fan is so loud. The noise alone kinda defeats the purpose of an "upgrade".

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Performance, a little noisy

Pros: Great performance for the price. Got 50fps in Company of Heroes benchmark at 1024x768 mode with most eye candy turned on. CPU E6550 / P35 chipset / 2GB PC6400

Cons: Fan is a little noisy... May need to replace the cooler.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Card For Price

Pros: Over clocked
No 6pin connector required
My old Zalman fits it
Came with free game

Cons: Fan Noise but resolved with the Zalman
Removing fan voids warrany

Other Thoughts: This card is a lot faster then the 7600GT, Despite what others say and I had my 7600GT over-clocked pretty high.
Anyways it died when my Zalman fan got stuck on a power connector and stopped spinning.
I noticed my screen would have lines every once in a while, then I finally figured out it was the fan, the card died shortly after. Haha!
This card is great for small cases with weak power supplies since it doesn't require the 6pin power.
My dell optiplex gx620 has a 260watt ps.

Manufacturer Response:

With XFX you can replace the fan WITHOUT affecting your warranty (just keep the original hardware in case an RMA is ever needed) and the same goes for overclocking as well! :)

1 out of 5 eggsExtremely Loud - Don't Buy

Pros: cheap

Cons: Loudest fan I've ever heard. It runs at 100% full speed all the time. Everyone in my 4-bedroom house can hear it - like someone using a hair dryer all the time. Contacted XFX and they said it's the way it works - can't be fixed. They recommend buying a 3rd party replacement fan or a passive cooling kit. But warranty void if you install 3rd party fan.

Other Thoughts: Should have spent more money on another manufacturer's product.

Manufacturer Response:

It sounds like there may be something wrong with the fan, please start a support ticket at or email myself at
