Great
- Pros: This is a great card , It plays crysis @ 1680x1050 High/very High @25-40 fps.Not too noisy if you keep the fan speed at 50-62%.Black pcb.
- Cons: Hot!!,at idle it's at 49-55C, and at full load its 60-75C.One time I accidently touched the back vent where the hot air comes out of and nearly burnt my self!!
- Other Thoughts: When you peel off the plastic cover thats on the card, the card it gets really shiny!!:)
Great card, but the cooler is a bit lacking
- Pros: I love the 4870 card. I also own a HIS 4870. It can put out so much performance for the small price tag of 135$.
- Cons: The cooler on this card is a bit on the weak side. it has to run at a constant 50% just when idling. Not to mention the near 70% fan speed when under full load. This was the reason it lost an egg. The only other problem i have with this card is the heat sink is not as well made than the HIS. You get what you pay for.
- Other Thoughts: The decal on the side is peeling off a bit on the top, but that's nothing to worry about.
Real bang for the buck
- Pros: Keeps the frames high
Smooth rendering Very efficient cooling, even below 50% fan speed Excellent results when paired with my x4 940 BE Playable FPS on all the games I own @ 1680 x 1050
- Cons: On the warmer days, it may be necessary to ramp up the fan between 50-60%. Of course, as has been the case with ATi reference coolers since the 2900, it starts to be noticably loud. Not enough to really knock off any eggs, but I'd like to see ATi start getting more creative with their stock coolers in the sound/cooling efficiency balance.
- Other Thoughts: I hooked this bad boy up in my rig, and tested it individually to verify it was defect free. Then, paired it with my Visiontek 4870, and rest is history. Can you say blazing on most games I've tested?
