Improved Multi-Sample Anti-Aliasing MSAA Technology

Smooth Lines Make All the Difference Between Itty Bitty, Low-Quality Graphics Versus Smooth Realistic Graphics

MSAA smooths out the jagged edges of a curved object. A black curved line on a white background displayed on a computer screen will have some jaggedness along its edges due to the inherent limitations of using discrete pixels to display the image. Anti-aliasing smooths out this jaggedness by filling in the white spaces between the jagged edges with varying shades of gray which gives you the smooth soft shadows, crisp sharp lines of buildings, and crisp tiny details in clothing that make your experience truly realistic.

4 out of 5 eggsThe Rebate Sucks so far

Pros: Great card, for a great price
Good for mid-to-high level gaming, entry, of course
Stays decently cool

Cons: The rebate sucks as of right now. I sent the rebate to them, them asking for the rebate form, the original barcode(which was on the box, so I had to cut the box), and a Packing List. I sent them all that was asked, but was rejected. When I reviewed the documentation they received, the final document was my Packing List from Newegg, labeled "Packing List" at the top. I have no idea why they rejected this and I'm waiting for Customer Support at the time.

Other Thoughts: Right now, this is a good GPU. If you're thinking about this, but have time, keep an eye on the Sapphire Tri-X 290, it's about $40 cheaper.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Graphics Card

Pros: Plays all the games I have on ultra settings where my previous 650 TI 1GB could barely play medium.
XFX lifetime warranty and support

Cons: This card is HUGE. Had to buy a new case but was expecting it already based on its dimensions.

Other Thoughts: The main reason I chose this brand is due to the lifetime warranty offered as well as the constant presence I saw of XFX support on many sites including Newegg. This really impressed me to see how active they were in helping their customers.

5 out of 5 eggsRock Solid Beast

Pros: Stable, have yet to have an issue with stability, out of the box it has been great. Overclocked it from 980 Mhz/1250 Mhz to 1140/1500 with stock voltages, with bumping the Voltage, I settled at 1180. Fan is (imo) fairly quiet even at 70% which it's at when fully loaded and at 75C, VRAM at 95C. Temps are quite good based on reviews I've seen.
While well more than doubling the performance of my 6870's in CF, I think it weighs as much as the two together, ha, but it's built well so sag/sturdiness is not a concern for me.
Even at these clocks/voltages the heat exiting my case is not as hot as the 2 cards I replaced.

Cons: It's big. My Cooler Master Storm Scout (which held the biggest cards of its day) needed about 1" of surgical trimming aided by Mr Dremel. Luckily dropping out the mobo for the work is a snap so it wasn't a hassle, I still had 7 spaces for hard drives left over.
The XFX lightup is covered up by my side fan filters, which isn't a con of the card, just wish I could see it.
It doesn't heat up Hot Pockets enough.
Fan doesn't keep my Mountain Dew cold.
Doesn't have an integrated hook to hang my bag of Doritos on.

Other Thoughts: I will update this in 6 months.
I have an EVGA Supernova G2 750 Gold, which is the best PSU I've owned to date, very possibly contributes to the stability.
I got "lucky" with Hynix memory, not sure if it really matters or not, just adding a data point to those wondering their chances of Hynix vs Elpida.
MSI Afterburner is an upgrade over Trixx I feel.

1 out of 5 eggsFlawed card, awful support, avoid at all cost

Pros: Pretty powerful, great looking design, UEFI compatible

Cons: Card keeps on throttling up to crashing with a black screen in any recent game (Tomb Raider, GTA V, etc), even after replacing my power supply with a new one that should provide sufficient power (HX850i).
The problem with this seems to be some cooling design defect of the card itself. A switch on the card allows it to throttle down, but it only delays the inevitable crash.
In addition to that, support is email-only, and painfully slow. I personally expected better coming from the competition.

Other Thoughts: Bottom line:

Do not buy this card and get yourself something better. It's not worth the time spent on troubleshooting this mess.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Alexander,

We're sorry you are having a throttling issue. There are many factors that may cause this, please visit our support site, xfxsupport.com, for technical support. The email Helpdesk system you are using exclisvely says do not use it if you need technical support. (its for marketing and business relationships).

You can always email me to get started as well.

4 out of 5 eggsAmazing Card!

Pros: Looks great
Runs most games out right now at max settings in 1080p
Neutral color tone will blend with most any build color scheme
Blows 970 out of the water as far as performance

Cons: LED XFX light should be on the side of the card, not the bottom of the card, as that is where most people will see it through the side panel!
Runs a little warm

Other Thoughts: I would recommend this card to anyone, and will likely consider buying another to run CrossfireX as long as 4GB of VRAM remains sufficient. Only problem I would see with crossfiring would be higher overall system Temps.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Nicola,

Thank you for the great review. We're happy everything is going as planned and working as intended.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Slick Design
Runs Witcher 3 very smooth on 1080p
Overclocks easily
Can't wait to get another for Xfire

Cons: Loudest part of my rig, but my build is silence optimized on every part besides GPU. Even at 100% though, it isn't all that bad.

Other Thoughts: I was afraid I may need more power for my games, but that was not the case. I'm near 60fps on Witcher 3, so glad I chose pc over the PS4 version. Overclocked it last night and easily gained 10% and still stays under 75 degrees.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for the great review and positive feedback.

We are happy you are pleased.

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible experience

Pros: Very nice looking card. That's about it!

Cons: The card has no video output after just a few days it was installed!
Very disappointed. Didn't play a single game!
Got sucked into the lifetime warranty and trust me, you will need it almost right away.
it's been almost 3 days and I haven't heard back from XFX support!
Just get something else instead!

Pros: Nice while it lasted.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Card…not as advertised though

Pros: This is a Fantastic card for premium gaming. Anything more than this is overkill. Tested with Lords of The Fallen, BF4, and Metro 2033/Last Light on max settings 1080p. Only game that stuttered was LoTF when loading some outdoor areas, and I think that is due to it not being installed on a SSD.

Card stayed around 46c at idle and mid 60s under load in an air cooled system. It is very quiet even at 100% fan speed.

It is built by XFX…need I say more?

*Note: Metro uses Nvidia PhysX calculations which AMD cards cannot handle. Not the cards fault Nvidia has proprietary software.

Cons: I bought this card to build a rig for my new home theater.

I chose an APU architecture for the system because the ITEM PAGE for this card said it was Dual Graphics compatible.

Here’s the one con…it is not Dual Graphics compatible with any of the APU’s on the market at the time of this review. I read many forums and watched video tutorials for days, but no matter what BIOS settings I used or install order I tried the CrossFire option never appeared in the CCC. Eventually I stumbled on to a compatibility chart at AMDs website that shows all APU models and their compatible GPU chipsets. No R9 series cards are on that list. I didn’t think to search for this initially because again…it states on the product page it will work out of the box in a Dual Graphics setup with current market APUs.

So essentially I bought a 12 core CPU and 8 of the cores are dead…they have no job. For the same or lesser price I could have bought an 8 core Phenom Black Edition at a higher clock.

BUT WAIT there’s more…if I want to fill that performance gap I will have to not only buy a new CPU I will have to buy a new MOBO because the Phenom line of CPUs does no share a socket type with the Kaveri APUs. Then I get to completely tear down and rebuild my brand new computer.

Other Thoughts: I would like to reiterate this is a beast of a graphics card. In an i7 or 8 core Phenom build this card will pull many times its weight for years. I would venture to say it will stay relevant longer than your CPU and MOBO. It is worthy of moving from PC to PC or upgrading around it. Unless gaming goes exclusively true 4K, and even then you may not need a new card.

This card is big…all high end dedicated cards are big. If you don’t know a good graphics card is going to need room don’t build your own computer, and don’t blame the card because you can’t read the measurements posted on the product page.

This PC: All parts bought from Newegg; everything arrived on day 3 and everything works as it should.

5 out of 5 eggsPretty Sweet

Pros: Whisper quiet, cool, and able to handle anything I've tossed at it minus one game--Planet Explorers--which is an early access title that others are having similar issues with, so I won't attribute it to the card.

Cons: This beast is massive. Even bigger than my old XFX Radeon HD5870, which was also a big, fat, GPU. I had to cut out a few of the empty mounting slats in my HDD rack out to get it to fit.

Other Thoughts: I'll admit that going into my purchase, I was worried due to the several reviews citing issues with black screens, DOA cards, and RMAs, but other than having to "engineer" my case's guts a bit, I haven't had a single issue with the GPU. It's been able to max every game I've thrown at it from Skyrim to Dying Light to WoW and a host of others, so I'm definitely satisfied so far. To anyone on the fence, I'd definitely say to go for it. The absolute worst case scenario is that you need to do some swapping to get one that works in the unlikely event that yours is buggered.

Thank you for the kind words.
