Improved Multi Sample Anti-Aliasing MSAA Technology

Smooth Lines Make All the Difference Between Itty Bitty, Low-Quality Graphics Versus Smooth Realistic Graphics

MSAA smooths out the jagged edges of a curved object. A black curved line on a white background displayed on a computer screen will have some jaggedness along its edges due to the inherent limitations of using discrete pixels to display the image. Anti-aliasing smooths out this jaggedness by filling in the white spaces between the jagged edges with varying shades of gray which gives you the smooth soft shadows, crisp sharp lines of buildings, and crisp tiny details in clothing that make your experience truly realistic.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Card

Pros: + Runs most current and AAA games on HIGH (Crysis 3, Sleeping Dogs HD, CoD Advanced Warfare, etc all ran excellent).
+ Large memory and bus, allows for additional post-processing
+ Very QUIET
+ Lifetime warranty (register card within 30 days)

Cons: - None to report

Other Thoughts: + Without question, this is the most elegant/attractive graphics card on the market! XFX should continue the design trend. Subtle and sleek.

+ Rebate received without issues (kudos XFX!)
+ Installed driver from CD without issue
+ Card runs relatively cool (2 hour gameplay, temperature stays at/below 60C - that's with one fan facing the card directly from the side window panel)
+ XFX was nice enough to include Crossfire bridge

+ Runs perfectly on 650W Corsair PSU (paired with a Phenom II X4 955BE CPU)

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for the great review. We appreciate the positive feedback.

3 out of 5 eggsXfX is GREAT!

Pros: Card ran just about anything I put it through! About 3-4 weeks the card (kinda died)! I had no signal to my monitor but both fans ran and it didnt keep pc from booting! I to XfX tech support over email and they granted a RMA without question! I have a replacement in the mail at this time and will update this at a later time!

As far as I am concerened XfX has done me VERY good with the RMA and I will be supporting them in the future!

Cons: Cons it died after a month BUT XfX is doing it's best to make it rite!

Other Thoughts: What i have learned from this..Is that XfX will not turn its back on you and will do what they can to make your money good!

I would!!!! Buy again!

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for your continued support.

We're sorry this happened, but are happy it is all resolved.

1 out of 5 eggsGreat card, until it died...

Pros: The card performed great under the benchmarks that I ran initially, it was running most games at or above 60FPS on Ultra in 1080p as well. Relatively quiet compared to case fans.

Cons: After 2 few weeks of operation the card is dead, the fans come on during boot up but it refuses to output to any of the ports. I've re-seated the card, checked the PCI power cables, tried multiple monitors, multiple HDMI/DVI/DisplayPort cables and have narrowed it down to the card being defective. The computer is now useless since the motherboard doesn't have on-board video to run in the meantime. I will be contacting Newegg and XFX Customer Support to see how we can resolve this issue, hopefully with a replacement card.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsXFX Double D R9-280A-TDFD Radeon R9 280 3GB 384-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 CrossFireX Support Video Card

Pros: Ive had my XFX R280 for a month now, and it takes everything i throw at it!! For having 2 power connectors it really doesnt use that much power, even when maxing out game settings, which it rarely does go full throttle. Fans are quiet. Did not have any issues with installation or drivers once i remove all the old ones. Ive played Evolve, I am Alive, Evil Within, Outlast, Dying Light, and a few others with all the settings maxed out and it does great! Getting 50-150 FPS, depending on whats going on in the game.

Cons: not really a con but it is almost 12" long. I had to move my DVD drive to make room for the card to fit.
Not real impressed with the monitoring software, it was causing system lag on boot and while it was running in the background but not being used. Then when i tried using the snapshot or video record feature it never worked, so i removed it and things went back to normal.

Other Thoughts: Even though my PC is a little over 4 yrs old, running a Phenom X4 BE 3.4Ghz - w/8GB of G Skill memory and only a 650W power supply it runs great! It runs dual monitors with DVI really well too. Runs great on my 50" Vizio tv via HDMI.
I use GPUZ and AIDA64 to monitor temps and fans. Max temps Ive seen was 57C running 3DMark or Passmark, gaming it only get to around 50C and fans never go full blast. this was with ambient room temps of around 25-30C.
Also not really a con but it would have been nice if they included at least 1 mini DP to dvi/hdmi adapter, or their adapter kit. but that would prob raise the price by $50-60. I started my rebate stuff offer immediately and got a quick response and notified it would arrive in 2-4 wks.

Ive always been an ATI/AMD guy, mainly due to cost savings they Rock!
My last VC was a AGP ATI All in Wonder w/256MB Vram, and cost over $500, but came with tons of cables and software. Overheating was a problem back then due to faulty fans, lets hope these are better designed.

I would recommend this card to anyone wanting a lower cost VC, lots of bang for the buck IMO. just make sure you have room for it in your case. LOL

4 out of 5 eggsGreat card, not so great experience.

Pros: Great card, I am able to run nearly every game I have come across on ultra settings at around 50 FPS. I currently have it OC'ed also and it has barely even gone up in temps when running BF4. Great card at a great price.

Cons: HOWEVER, the Newegg site as well as the AMD site claim that this product is "Dual-Graphics Ready" with any APU. Well, thanks to both of these sites I bought an AMD A10-7850K APU with a compatible motherboard learning that they are not compatible with the R9, only compatible with the R7 and lower. Now I am with a pointless APU and compatible motherboard that I am unable to return.

Manufacturer Response:

Excellent, Thank you for the great review, we appreciate the positive feedback. If you need anything or simply have a question, let me know

4 out of 5 eggsFor $160, you can't really complain too much.

Pros: This card was a much-needed upgrade over an XFX HD-4890. It's much quieter than my old rear-exhaust card, even during 3dmark Firestrike and also in the BIOS (and pre-Windows tasks like a Memtest86+ run.) It also fits nicely into a Cooler Master ACTS 840 case -- this was something I was worried about considering the extra height of the card, although the rounded front edge worked out nicely. Temps appear to be cooler as well with less dramatic spikes and more "stair-like" increases and decreases. Lifetime XFX warranty is a compelling reason to buy over other manufacturers. Price:performance ratio is exceptional. Gaming on 1200p with a moderate-intensity title like CS:GO appears to handle well.

Cons: The power connectors on the card are recessed near the heat-sink so removing the power connections are going to be "harder than normal" to remove, especially if you don't have access to long fingernails or manual dexterity to operate tools like a slim pliers.

You're also going to have to tweak the color settings because default settings look washed-out on a color-sensitive monitor like a Dell Ultrasharp with an MVA panel. After searching, the option you're looking for is in the CCC->My Digital Flat Panels->Display Color (Digital Flat-Panel)->Color Temperature Control. That's a fairly unintuitive setting if you're looking for color correction settings. For me I had to manually set this to ~6400K for a reasonable color approximation. Checking EDID (the default option) results in a terrible washed-out appearance. On this page you'll probably also like to bump up the color saturation to ~110-120 for brighter reds on panels that can handle it. The gamma setting is in CCC->Desktop Management->Desktop Color, but I decided to leave these settings alone and have my physical monitor brightness and contrast settings both at 65...I also have the preset modes at custom RGB all at 100 -- again a physical monitor setting. Moral of the story, give yourself an entire day to tweak color settings, because you'll need to and WON'T have any good included documentation on how to do so. (Then, give yourself *another* day to tweak font styles in Google Chrome if you've recently converted over from Firefox due to lackluster HTML5 video support.)

Speaking of useless documentation, how about trading all of the included gimmicks like the molex->6-pin connector and the 8-pin Y-splitter to 2 6-pin connector (very ironic to include this since the Quick Install Guide specifically says NOT to use this, lolwut?), the crossfire bridge, the cd install guide, the driver disk, the adverts for display adapters and PSU's, and the Newegg "Wine" promotional gift card for an extra $5 off the total price of the GPU? Or else include a mini DisplayPort 1.2 cable since you'll probably need one anyway? Companies: please stop including "hard bloatware" with your hardware. That's all I ask for.

Other Thoughts: The rebate site could be more intuitive -- although that might be "by design" so expect "hoops" if you want the Amex rebate card. There's no specifying as to whether or not you can deposit it into your checking account at your bank so that's probably a 50/50 probability. It's not to be used at an ATM so cash advances might not be allowed. I've had rebate cards in the past where you're basically FORCED to use them at retailers so it's up to the retailer if they want to use up the remaining balance on the card and split a transaction for the remaining purchase amount. But, I suppose that's the game you play with MIR's -- expected unexpected hoops. The reason I say all of this is because MIR's is a major compelling reason why someone would buy hardware. It's the reason why I bought this card here and not other online retailers so the experience is very much relevant to the thoroughness of the overall review.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for the great review. We appreciate the positive feedback

If you have any questions, please let us know. The rebate isnt designed to be difficult... it is designed to make sure only 1 rebate can be redeemed per person... however i see your point. If you have any issues with your rebate claim, please let us know.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome card

Pros: I was impressed by the reviews and the overall power of the card, and happy that people have been able to set their graphic settings to ultra with acceptable frame rates.

I was building a gaming computer and purchased this card in August of 2014. Received card and started building my computer.

Right from the start, I was impressed with the overall professional look of the card. I installed it in my unit and ever since I have not had a problem with graphic intense games, like Tomb Raider, Hitman Absolution, and others.

It has been six months since I purchased it and I am very happy with it. Plus it came with a gamepad and three free games. Not bad.

It idles at 27 degrees celsius and under full load it maxes out at 64 degrees celsius. Very nice cooling solution.

I just really like the card. Very happy with my purchase.

Cons: I am glad I got a Cooler Master haf 912, because it is a large card, but the case accommodates it very well.
