1 out of 5 eggsBeatles 'No Reply'

Pros: Good feature Set for an AGP card.

Cons: Failed due to overheat.
Requested an RMA from HIS - No Response

Other Thoughts: What can I say, HIS has not responded to my RMA request in months.
I would love to give HIS a -5 egg on this product.

I'm going to contact Newegg and test their customer support.

3 out of 5 eggsIt works...

Pros: A good card that works well for regular computing, and provides an alright screen resolution.

Cons: If you are looking for a card that will work for gaming look no further, but if you want good resolution and less screen blur look further... a lot further.

Other Thoughts: I bought this card because I was on a budget for my build and I couldn't spend a lot of money on my GPU. I have a PCI-Express x16 version of this and it has worked all the time, but even at max OC this thing doesn't game well. I just ordered a new XFX Radeon HD 5750 which is great for gaming and has the new DX 11 software... If you can spring and extra 40 to 50 bucks it's worth it for the difference in quality you will get.

Manufacturer Response:

4 out of 5 eggsvery nice card

Pros: runs cool 52 degrees at idle. really silent thermal controlled fan.can play crysis now at mid to high settings and battlefield 2 with all the settings on high with a 60 fps with this card and a penteum 4 2.0 and 3 gigs of pc133 sdram. if your looking to add new life to your old agp computer till you can upgrade this card is the way to go.ive had this card for 5 months and have not had any problems with it at all.

Cons: Dont run this card without the driver it heats up 100+ without the proper driver.run your old card till you find and download the proper driver.dont use the supplyd driver on the cd that came with it.go to amd (Radeons)websight and download only the agp hotfix thats for your operating system.it includes catalyst control center.right after you install the agp hotfix driver restart your computer and your good to go.dont block the air flow with a big bulky soundcard in the slot right underneath it i did that at first and it brought the temp up 19 degrees more.now after diong all this my vid card runs at 52 degrees with the core overclocked to 860 and the memory overclocked to 1600.in the future if your reformating your os run your old card till your done and put this card in after you have the driver ready to install. the heat will fry your card if you run it to long burning it up without the driver.

1 out of 5 eggs2nd card failure

Pros: Feature rich card.
This product looked good on paper, and the performance was adequate.

Cons: Overheating problem.
This card ran hot from day one. There is a missing chip cooler on the reverse side of the card and that chip gets hot enough to melt plastic.
***Note the photo of the backside of the card, you will see the 'pink' heat tape on the chip with no cooler attached to it.***
That is what happened to the fan unit. It's base is a three legged plastic design that literally deformed due to the high heat and caused the fan to fail, which in turn toasted the card.

Other Thoughts: I have had another card in this PC for two years with no problems but wanted a newer card with more features.
This is the 2nd one of these cards I have had that failed.
My system is not overclocked (couldn't if I wanted to due to B.I.O.S. limitation) and has a good power supply.
My motherboard is compliant with the requirements for this AGP card.
I would like to have given this product a zero-egg but one is the lowest selectable unit.

Any manufacturer can have a problem with a product due to a bad component or design, however there is no excuse for a Manufacturer to keep selling a known defective product without making an effort to correct problems with it.
Shame on you H.I.S..

NOTE: I have e-mailed H.I.S. for an RMA, and will return with additional feedback about their support process.

1 out of 5 eggsMissing Cooler

Pros: Feature rich card that lists specs that outperform many PCI-X cards.
Ran hot but worked OK for about a year.

Cons: 1st card failed in 13 months.
2nd card arrived D.O.A.
Returned 2nd card and sent 1st card back for factory repair.
Runs very hot.
Heatsink or cooler missing from back of card.
* see 'other thoughts'

Other Thoughts: The original card always ran hot.
NOTE: NO OVERCLOCKING
There is a chip on the back of the card that has the double sided 'heat tape' that is normally used to attach an aluminum heatsink or small cooler unit, however no cooler is stuck to the tape.
This chip gets VERY HOT (will take the skin off of your finger if you touch it), and I'm sure will cause this replacement card to fail.
This appears to be a design flaw because the placement of the chip may not allow clearance of the necessary heat dissipating device.
Therefore the factory puts the tape on, but no cooler.
I have purchased H.I.S. products before and cannot complain about any of them.
This is a real let down.
H.I.S. (LEXY), if you are listening, contact me about a suggestion to resolve this.

4 out of 5 eggsWroks great

Pros: Works great. The 8.12 hotfix drivers installed easy, no problems in Fallout 3 or World of Warcraft so it covers the low to high end games well and if Fallout 3 runs what else can you ask out of an AGP card...

Cons: Same as all the other AGP versions of this card: no "official" driver support. But again, the hotfix drivers seem to work just fine, at least for me.

Other Thoughts: Had purchased the Powercolor version of this card but RMA'ed it due to a screw up with that cards BIOS it turns out (it was reporting 256MB instead of 512, fix has since been released). No such problem with this card thankfully (and it's clocked faster as well, though it is more expensive).

All in all a good card until you can get a PCI-E card.

4 out of 5 eggsgood card

Pros: This card was a fantastic upgrade from my mobo's stock graphics processor. runs crysis on medium at 1200x1080 fairly well. Runs all my games besides crysis at max without any hiccups; WoW, Bioshock, and Doom 3 (old but fun).

Cons: None.

4 out of 5 eggsI hate to love it, but it works!

Pros: HDMI - REAL HDMI for your HTPC! The price seems great. The DVI adapters are included. It breathed new life into my old PC.

I was able to get the H.I.S. drivers to install off the disk effortlessly, but...

Cons: ... I spent hours trying to get rid of the PowerDVD error message 0110 - "fail to enable HDCP". The only fix I found for it was installing AnyDVD HD. (Yes, I have an HDCP compliant monitor.)

I installed the AGP hotfix (currently 8.10) from
http://support.ati.com/ics/support/KBAnswer.asp?questionID=31625 and it REALLY expanded the monitor configuration options, but not quite enough - it's still a must to install these updates!

The card did not like working on my machine with Arcsoft Total Media Theater even though my PC exceeds all of their minimum operating requirements. I monitored CPU usage while trying to watch a Blu-ray (Casino Royale) and it ran at 25% moments before the BSOD, leading me with the impression it's a video driver conflict issue.

Other Thoughts: In the end, I'm happy with this card. Arcsoft TMT doesn't have the features I want in a player, so it's not a loss to me that it won't work on my machine. If TheaterTek played Blu-ray, I'd be set right now!

5 out of 5 eggsNo problems 4 me

Pros: Card Worked perfectly out of the box. I was prepared 4 a long driver struggle becuse of all of the negative reviews, but it wasnt the case. I installed the cd drivers and worked like a charm.Card's specs are correct 800 gpu 700 memory ddr3. (=1400)

Cons: I bought the card mainly to test if cpu is trully that important for games.I own an Ahlon xp 3200 overclocked at ~2435 mhz(stock 2200).I had a x1650 clocked at 600 gpu 400 ddr2 memory, 12 pixels pipelines and thought it was the cause of my low fps on certain games. The results of my experiment were somehow expected.I found out that on certain games cpu can hold u back while on others not so cpu stressfull the video card can be the problem. When playing a game, game data is loaded into memory where cpu can acces it faster. Then cpu passes all video related calculations to gpu where it is processed and sent to your display.Thats why i had the idea that my low fps had to do with my gpu not my cpu. However, there is much more in a game than just graphics calculations. All from character movements, enemy's AI, physics, animations, path finding ect.In fact there can be a thousand scripts running at same time. All of this using cpu cycles and avoiding cpu's data transmission to the Gpu.

Other Thoughts: I have installed all the drivers i could find. ATi's agp hotfix, the cd drivers, his's web page drivers, all in search of a better performance. All of them installed perfectly and gave me no trouble at all.
Also u dont need a 400 w PSU. IT is a common fallacy to think psu affects performance. In fact I seriously doubt that any of the so called "monster video cards "actually consume more than 150 w. If u dont believe me get a little program called local cooling. It has nothing to do with vcards analysis but it has a small feature were it tells u the power ur system is consuming. To your surprise the card was only spending 24 watts/hour my monitor 40w, cpu 65w, hard drives(3) 25w,ect. So the total power my pc was consuming was 165 w/hour, the equivalent of 2 light bulbs. If my psu unit is 300w maximum, u can clearly see i dont need a 400 psu or nothing alike. What it is important is the quality of the psu.
