5 out of 5 eggsHIS 4870x2 Rocks

Pros: This card is amazing, it wipes out any game you throw at it at very high resolutions like 1920x1200. It even makes older games shine even more because of adding more AA and AF. As of right now I have it at stock cores and memory but I have my fan speed at 40%@ 44C idle and 60s load

Cons: PLEASE! Anyone who this card or any others, please bump the fan speed. The stock fan speed on this is really low, like 27% low which doesn't do anything. I keep mine at 40% and theres is practically no sound that I hear except from other other fans in the case. This isn't really con, I just wanted to let people who buy this card to know this or else they well be have some bacon and eggs on this card.

Other Thoughts: My System:
Q6600 @ 3.2GHz
Abit IP35 Pro
2x1GB Corsair RAM
150GB Raptor and 1TB Cavier
Thermaltake 650Watt Modular 52A PSU
Cosmos 1000 Full Tower Case

2 out of 5 eggsDrivers ruin this card

Pros: Well I guess it is the most powerful card made right now. Runs pretty much any game maxed out.

Cons: Well actually using this card is the hard part. ATI drivers are worthless. What is power without stability. Nothing. I was only able to play farcry 2 and crysis for about 45min before either the card gets too hot, or the ATI CCC crashes. Strange glitches in games like crysis. The fan profiles are lousy, allowing this card to get way too hot. I set the fan to run at 57%. it may be loud but it stayed cooler. Even with this card cooled better, driver crashes, poor scaling, and strage game glitches (like flickering textures) make this card a waste money.

Other Thoughts: I sold this card, and have purchased a GTX280. The GTX280 is fast and stable. Plus it overclocks well.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat card when it works

Pros: Excellent frame-rates and processing power. probably not a better card on the market.

Cons: RUNS HOT!! my idle temperature is 100C I may have to liquid cool the card. Drivers are very bad, games wont run in full screen, atikmdag error the crash. I sent it in for a replacement, the company is sending one free.

Other Thoughts: You get the bang for the buck with ati but there is a good chance you will have problems with it. 3 of my friends also bought the card and had similar problems.

5 out of 5 eggsFast

Pros: - Fast (what an understatement)
- Runs cool (read cons)
- TWO GPU's (one for each output). So when you run something insanely intensive on one monitor, realize that you can do the same on another.
- Decent OC software.

Cons: - Get Catalyst controls up really fast and override the OC settings and turn that fan UP! When I was installing the OS, it was idling at 60C! The factory setting on the fan was 20%. Turning it up makes it louder, but it'll save your card. I found that about 50% drops the temp to 30C idle, and 40C load. It's around 30dB at 50%. The only downside is that you won't be able to toast bread on it anymore.

Other Thoughts: Very great card. Happy I bought it. Although it will run fine with the fan, I'll be looking into water cooling when it comes around and OC it.

4 out of 5 eggsAmazing and fast card

Pros: This card is intimidating, a physical monster at around 13 inches long and two slots wide. The same can be said about its power, I'm playing Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and Crysis on the highest possible settings with a native resolution of 1680x1050 with full AA and AF in all. The stock cooling fan on this thing is efficient but the management of the fan for it is the only con, which I'll detail below.

I recommend this card for sure, it fit into my Lian Li Armorsuit P60 with Ease and the PCI-E 6+2 power adapters power it just fine, I did not need to purchase any additional plugs as some reviewers are claiming.

Cons: This thing is hot, when I finished installing Windows and updating drivers, the Catalyst control center pegged it at 86C, putting my hand near the exhaust fan confirmed that. The problem is that the default idle fan speed is set to 28% capacity; which is barely moving any air. I'm not quite sure why it is idling this hot either, but I also think the software ought to be smart enough to be tweak the idle fan speed.

Other Thoughts: My work around to the fan speed issue has been to enable Overdrive in the catalyst center and manually adjust the fan to around 43%. Which is where I found the best cooling/noise level median to be. Though, in Far Cry 2 and Crysis I typically raise it to 53% which maintains a solid 50C temperature.

The card wants both a 6 Pin and an additional 8 Pin power cable plugged into it. My corsair 750w PSU has a couple PCI-E 6+2 adapters which worked fine.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Looks Cool

Cons: HIS uses an unusual 8-pin power plug that does not work with my standard 8-pin power plug wire that runs off of my Power Supply. That would not have been so bad if they had included an adapter to make it work but they did not. I tried to get ahold of HIS for some kind of support but it is non-existant. The HIS web-site only provides a web-form for you to fill out which would not have been so bad but there is no "Submit" button in which to submit the form to them. The only phone number provided is some international number for their office in Hong Kong and it isn't even a tech support number.

Other Thoughts: Luckly I made a wise choice when purchasing my Power Supply (PC Power & Cooling) and they had a number I called, it was picked up on the first ring, they are sending me out an adapter free of charge, and it is being sent via express mail.

4 out of 5 eggsgood, powerful card

Pros: This dual GPU card is a beast!

Cons: Drivers.... cannot play DX10 games without crashing.

Other Thoughts: I have windows vista home premium 64 bit operating system With all the updates available. I have the latest version(8.10) for the 4870x2. Aero is disabled based off from what I hear from other complaints. I reformatted my hard drive so I am absolutely sure that there is no driver conflicts but my card still crashes for playing DX10 games. DX9 works well though.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Card, Problems with PCI-E v1

Pros: This card is very fast. No problems maxing out any games so far. Also is very good for F@H. I haven't had any trouble with 1900x1200 in any games. Also, the catalyst drivers have great support for dual monitor configurations.

Cons: Card idles VERY hot by default (80C and higher), fan is loud when above 80%, and the card uses a lot of power.

Other Thoughts: I have had this card for about 3 months now, and it has been great. I did have some trouble initially with using it in a PCI-E v1 slot. Sometimes the card would not utilize both GPUs, thus reducing the performance. After re-installing drivers and changing some settings in BIOS, it seems to be doing okay now. Games run great and look amazing. Now I just have to upgrade the rest of my system to keep up with this card! This card may be overkill now for most gamers, but it should future-proof your system for a while. I highly recommend this card to anyone building a high-end system. And as always, NewEgg is great!

5 out of 5 eggsBest of the Best

Pros: I've had the chance to compare this bad boy side by side with the 9800gx2 and I can definitively tell you that this card will out perform the 9800 9 times out of 10. There are VERY few instances where the 9800 will outperform the 4870, one of which is Crysis. Only programs that have bias to one type of GPU will show any real difference, but the difference in performance is fairly marginal. CoD4, WoW, Warhammer Online, Crysis, Spore, Black & White2, AoC, Halo 2, and everything else you can think of, this card can handle it. Max settings of course.

Cons: Crossfire drivers and scalability are lacking, but when one of these cards can run just about anything at max settings, who really cares. (Besides benchers...)

Other Thoughts: Anyone complaining that this card won't run crysis at max settings without lag, or having problems with any other programs, Look at your other components. Having the best graphics card on the market isn't worth jack if you're running with low amounts of RAM and a low end CPU. Keep in mind that your components have to compliment eachother in performance to see the best out of your computer as a whole.
