1 out of 5 eggsCard died after 8 months

Pros: Fast card. Does everything great. Wonderful price.

Cons: Died after 8 months. Did not overclock. Playing Americas Army and it just died (with some wonderful smell of something burning).

Other Thoughts: My computer is used every day. Do video editing and gaming, so a need a fast video card. This one fit the bill. The price was excellent. The card ran well until it died a catastrophic pop and smell of something burning. Totally unexpected.

1 out of 5 eggsBurnt out like the other reviewer pointed out

Pros: worked wonderfully while it worked. ran all my games with butter smooth frame rate.

Cons: It burnt out after 6 months of casual usage. just EXACTLY like the other reviewer said (Masema) below. the thing just went poof all of a sudden while i was gaming and would not boot back up. and the fan spin up 100% like crazy. no overclocking at all what so ever, the thing just died. upon close inspection and process of elimination found out that it's the video card circuitry towards the tail end of the card got burnt out. like Masema pointed out, no visible sign of burn but an obvious smell of burnt circuitry at the tail end of the card.

Other Thoughts: I have owned countless video cards in the past 12 years and been building computers for almost a decade. this is the first time i have a video card actually "fried" on me. i don't need to say more, you be the judge. This will sure be the first and last product i will buy from HIS company... guaranteed!

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent card

Pros: Pros: it can be easily flashed to use with OS X. Fast, and it doesn't get nearly as hot as my 8800 GT did. The latter card died, and so got replaced with this.

Cons: It's not a 5870? Heh.

5 out of 5 eggsGamer or not

Pros: This card is so powerful that it required extra watts 2 P.C 6pin and 8 pin (8Pin is 2x the power of a HDD)

anyways so far so good but i had to make my own Bios configuration changing the bios for Fan because this cards runs at 60C Idle and thats about 20-25% fan speed i mean cmon? you can have a card runnig for months w.o shut down on 80% fan speed so the bios i made it like 30c-45c 38% fan speed getting 37C-41C(depends on area Temp) when it goes higher than 45c Fan increase 3% per 5C never reached a Temp of 65+ even after HOurs of playing Crysis Warhead at ULTRA High settings but the thing is HIS and other companies prefer to sell cards with no noise at all so they make the fan runs as low as posible but always havinga a Temp belo 60C ( if you let that Bios on this card when you playing a game or doing some Work you will get over 75C and thats not good at all considering some cpu shut down after 60C but this is GPU anyway BUY THIS CARD :)

Cons: waiting the bill also the card is too big not recomended if you having Micro ATX if you have a Full size then this is allllllLLLLlllLLLlll you need for 1-3 years

Honestly none important.

Other Thoughts: the card is heavy and nice designed pretty hot and hot Temp when running games :P

3 out of 5 eggsMissing HDTV S-VIDEO Cable

Pros: PCI Express 2.0 x16, 1Gig GDDR5, Crossfire

Cons: Runs pretty hot

Other Thoughts: HIS has changed the packaging and Newegg has not updated their description. I did not receive the HDTV S-Video cable with my product even though it match the correct part number that I ordered. I looked at the HIS website and sure enough, this card does not include the cable, so if you intend to connect this to a projector or television using Component connections, you'll have to order the cable separately and from another source, as Newegg does not carry it.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

Thank you for your notification. Please be informed the HIS 4890 models does not come with the HDTV to S-Video cable and S-Video to Composite Adapter. We will have Newegg update the bundling information accordingly.

Besides, you can order it from Newegg in these links:

1 out of 5 eggsAWESOME, but then not

Pros: This card is a monster. Even at default settings it will tear through any game on the market. OC this card with the software it comes with and it'll not the socks off any other card you can get for the price (even more expensive ones).

Cons: I ran this card at default settings, everything as it was from the manufacturer. I only play WoW and L4D mostly, so I didn't need to juice this card up. After 2 months it burned out, becoming completely useless. I come to turn my comp on one day and the fan just goes nuts at 100% speed and I smell burning. Took it out and it reeked of burnt circuits. Couldn't see any burn marks, but then 75% of the board is covered by the huge heat sink/fan.

Other Thoughts: My experience may just be a fluke, but it's something to think about. When you get a card that is this insane, you can expect that something will go wrong within it's lifetime. Hopefully for you it happens while it's still under warranty, either that or when you're already in the market to buy a new card years down the road.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Card

Pros: This card handles all of the games I throw at it in high settings at 1920x1080 with an extended display of 1280x1024 running (just desktop with changing background, but still). So far I have played Crysis, NFS Shift, Assassin's Creed....no problem. I also use this card in Maya and Cinema 4D with equal if not better performance than my school's workstation cards.

Cons: no DX11... *tear*
can't do eyefinity? (not that I have the desk space, but still).

Other Thoughts: I am tempted to sell and get one of the 5870's so that I can take advantage of DX11... but it seems that I will most likely run a Xfire of these once I get the funds to get more boost at half the cost (to a certain extant).

1 out of 5 eggsIt's great, when it isn't making noise

Pros: The card is great and fast when it isn't making noise.

Cons: The ball bearing on the fan makes a ton of noise. I called HIS (after taking an hour trying to track down their phone number, to no avail, yet finding it here). They basically told me they would RMA the card and take it back. That it would take 3-4 weeks.

Their procedure is to have you ship them the card for 3-4 weeks and then you'll get a fixed card after that period. I asked if they had an exchange program like most other manufacturers, where they take your credit card info and ship you an identical card, then you use the box to ship them back the old one. They said they do not have such a program.

So basically, you're out of a computer while they get your card fixed. The tech support guy actually had the nerve to say "buy a new card if you need a computer for that period of time". I couldn't believe he said that. What's the purpose of a warranty if I have to buy a new card?

Other Thoughts: I called Newegg to complain and was sent to escalations. They are taking back this card 5 months after I bought it for a 15% restocking fee, though I get to keep the mail-in rebate (which still hasn't arrived 5 months after purchase, might I add). They will give me a refund (not store credit).

I'm already shopping for a new non-HIS card. Whatever you do, don't buy this card. Buy from another company. How these people stay in business with this kind of customer service is beyond me. On their webpage's Support section, you put in the serial number of the card and it shoots you back to the homepage. You go back to Support and do it again, and it shoots you back to the homepage again. I couldn't find the Tech Support telephone number anywhere, except for the company main line in Hong Kong which doesn't help me.

I love Newegg. They took care of me and kept me a loyal customer. This company has the best customer service in the industry.

1 out of 5 eggsReview Update

Pros: This is an update to my previous review, in which I gave this card a high ranking. It still works and I can still OC it, which is both good.

Cons: The fan and this companies customer support. Recently the fan on this has started to make a loud ticking noise and so I called HIS tech service and the guy said I had two options: RMA the card or fix it myself. However, their version of an RMA is that you send it back to them (you pay) and then you wait 4 weeks while they "fix" it and send it back to you. How this is an acceptable solution to a computer problem where most people are not going to have a spare lying around, I don't know.

Needless to say, I chose to buy an after market cooler for 50 instead, and put it on myself. The cost difference between paying shipping and buying this is small, and I will not have any computer downtime; plus, the card will run cooler. But, if I wanted to buy an expensive card I would have done that in the first place.

Other Thoughts: I will never buy a HIS card again. Tech support like this is terrible and there are so many other companies that offer superb tech support and have comparable price/quality.
