A few interesting facts
- Pros: I had two 7800 GTXs (SLI) before this card. I used a power meter to measure the power use with those and with the new 8800GTX OC'd model, the 8800 only takes 8 watts more power ... like a night light. And remember I have the factory over-clocked version.
With the exhaust from the 8800 going out the back, my computer components stay COOLER than with two 7800 GTXs. This GPU is well cooled too ... I run 62C idle and 72C at full load. Since you cannot realistically use the slot next to this cards fan (anything there would block the fan), leave the third slot cover off and install a home made shroud to deflect the hot air from the card's side vents out the third slot opening.
On my ASUS MB with AMD FX60 GPU, the 8800GTX simply eats those two 7800s for lunch at 1920x1200. STALKER quit playing like a "slide show" and now plays smooth as butter with everything cranked up.
I used nothing from the CD that was in the box ... just installed the latest drivers from nVidia's website.
- Cons: The following may have nothing at all to do with this card, but during the install I was pestered by messages from Creative and after the install, I had to insert my Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS so it could re-install some files.
Second con ... I waited too long to buy this card .. wanting to see what ATI had to offer with their new R600 chip. Well, that is a dud ... I should have just gone ahead with this purchase and I could have been enjoying it months ago.
- Other Thoughts: In my opinion, far too much has been made about how anything but the latest, greatest GPU will limit this card in a meaningful way. And lots of talk about power consumption and the amount of heat the 8800GTX produces.
My version is factory OC'd to 630 MHz and my AMD FX60 dual core GPU doesn't seem to be limiting me in any way I can notice. This card will play the toughest games at 1920 X 1200 with all the eye candy.
This card actually runs cooler than my two 7800 GTXs and only draws a tiny bit more power. Now this is with the factory OC'd card which should among the most hungry for power and among the hottest GPUs.
Finally, (according to Tom's Hardware), remember that FoxConn builds these cards to which others affix their logo's, so don't fear the name and don't hesitate to buy from the "source".
Great Card
- Pros: well the card is great though i didnt get it from newegg, because it was onsale somewhere else, worked great from the beginning.
- Cons: none.
- Other Thoughts: for the reviewer before me sorry ur card didnt work, i dont know what world u live in but foxconn is not indian, its based in taiwan, ur 550 watt powersupply probably didnt have enough juice to push this beast.
and i dont know how newegg can let that review slip by because some people might find u calling indians mutated freeks little offending to them.
and by the way nothing is manufactured in the U.S when it comes to these graphic cards and motherboards.
how do you say ... uhh...
- Pros: Hrm.....I can land a darn plane on this thing. It sucks up enough juice to power chernobyl. I think I might have a melt down on my hands. Mutated freaks are a plus for the foxconn website.
- Cons: Oh jeez.....where do i begin. I got this card for pretty cheap when you factor in the rebate. I would have rather bought a card that wasn't DOA because I dont like to wait. Don't buy cheap stuff from that country that starts with In and ends in dia .....trust me...look at the foxconn website. For the love of jeebus, do yourself a favor.
- Other Thoughts: At least my new mxxdog 550 watt power supply worked. Ummm.....that one country sucks.
