5 out of 5 eggsoops

Pros: ..see other thoughts

Cons: ..see other thoughts

Other Thoughts: Sorry. I don't want to cause confusion for readers interested in this product. I meant the review before mine, not above. My mistake.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for that intense 3d/2d stuff

Pros: Lots of bandwidth for intense vert calculations. Isn't for gaming since gaming requires high clock speeds and fast real-time shader calculations. This gpu is enhanced for vert calculations, and I recommend to you if you do animation/3D rendering of stills. Game designers can benefit too.

Cons: None really. If you game then this is a waste of money. Also this is the only Ati gpu line that is actually supported in linux (not really a con if you're buying this). Ati drivers (fglrx) are all firegl drivers made compatible with radeon cards and don't perform as well with them.

Other Thoughts: To the review above... of course your render time isn't much faster compare to your other card. Rendering is DONE ON THE CPU, NOT GPU. Infact you SHOULDNT have noticed a difference at all!! Also don't pay attention to the benchmarks of the firegl vs quadros. These cards are aimed at bandwidth and not speed. Benches aren't that important when comparing workstation CAD/DCC cards especially if they show work done/time rather than real bandwidth specs/numbers.

2 out of 5 eggsNot quick enough for the price

Pros: None for our application.

Cons: Far too expensive to be worth it for our software. There is marginal acceleration or even a slight decceleration moving to this from a 7900 GS.

Other Thoughts: The OpenGL rendering time/render quality was just about the same as the 7900 GS, and the software maker (Matrix, GemVision) designed their software to work with nVidia cards.
