5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: My 280 has been flawless for 4 months runs very Cold i know that AMD cards should never be OC over the factory setting. Or you WILL have problems The real PRO mine was 305 plus free B4 only reason i bought over Nvidia this card is faster than a 770 the test in games shows this. This needs a 750 PS so they say i did try a 80 plus 650 and have had NO problems.

Cons: I honestly don't see much more improvement in many games over my 6970 if on High if i go to ultra then you see Some improvement but i'am still limited for some reason 8 gigs 2100 and a 2500 at 3.9 i think 2 cards would do better. But Why when this has 384 bit and 3 gigs of ram over 2000 cp's but NO con on the price i paid i Would buy again at 250.$ sub the free B4.

Other Thoughts: If the price ever comes down i really think a 290 would be the way to go i just Don't see much improvement over my 6970. When i try to push this card on Max it just can't do it so i have to cut it down that's at 1900 NO way would i try 2500 rev. unless i have a Intel 6 core. then again a 290 for that.

3 out of 5 eggsHigh rate of defectives

Pros: *R9 280X is a great GPU - capable in both gaming and some mild workstation-like activity (Maya/Blender/3dsMax).

Cons: *3GB VRAM seems low for the card's specs, but at this price range it's alright.
*High chance of DOA

Other Thoughts: It has been my experience that, with most of sapphires products, but more specifically this card - the rate of failure is quite high.

That said, if you're willing to bear the inconvenience of an RMA or two (which newegg does wonders to facilitate), you can be left with a fairly hefty card for the price tag.

2 out of 5 eggsNot very good

Pros: Runs wells at first. Each card lasted about a week. Gets about 40fps easy in games on ultra and 730KH/s stable mining

Cons: I've been through two of these cards. They aren't stable. It seems Sapphire cheapened out on this card to meet the demand. First card gave no temperature reading so autofan speed wouldn't work. And this gave me no way to tell if it is over heating. Second card didn't have that problem and ran well until it didn't. Which was about a week. Got artifacts then crashes. then refused to boot until I removed this one card.

Also on a side note, compared to my other 280xs this card is thicker, which doesn't make for good spacing for crossfire configs

Other Thoughts: Spend a bit more money and get a toxic or wait till the 290 returns to a sane price

2 out of 5 eggsDied after Two Months

Pros: This card played BF4 on ultra without a hiccup . Price was $299 with BF4 when i bought it .

Cons: Died after 2 months of light gaming ..... without even a slight overclock . RMA process takes at least 2 weeks.

Other Thoughts: It's a bummer going back to a 480 gtx for a month after shelling out money for a new card .

This was my first AMD/ ATI card since the 9800 pro days... i hope i didnt make a mistake . Hope the RMA replacement holds up.

1 out of 5 eggsJunk

Pros: cool/quiet, voltage unlocked.

Cons: This card is junk, Sapphire cheaped out on these cards. Most likely to meet the demand of mining. First card arrived DOA, second card was nothing but artifacts/screen flicker. Clean install of windows/drivers/bios would not fix. With the Elpida memory you'll be hard pressed to reach 700kh/s. Spend your money elsewhere.

1 out of 5 eggsSparks flew from the power connector

Pros: card died after a week

Cons: I sometimes leave my computer on. Woke up one day and my computer was off.

Turned it on and sparks flew from the card. Looking around the internet, many people have encountered the exact same issue. Going to RMA and hopefully they send me one without the VRM issue or whatever caused this

Other Thoughts: Never again.

Manufacturer Response:

We are sorry that your card has failed.

We hope that the RMA process with Newegg goes smoothly

2 out of 5 eggsGood performance, when they work.

Pros: Good performance while they lived, reasonably quiet.

Cons: I ordered two, with sequential serial numbers, and they have both died (machine doesn't POST with either card installed, works with other GPUs) within two weeks of each other. The RMA process through Sapphire is nonexistent, they make you talk to NewEgg, who are kindly contacting Sapphire on my behalf. Hopefully it goes smoothly. I'm hoping it's just an issue with the batch I got, and that the replacements will work as advertised.

1 out of 5 eggsshort term

Pros: It's a 280x

Cons: I had one DOA that i got an RMA replacement for. I just had the other one burn out on me. And by burn out I mean smoke and delamination of the PCB on the backside of the VRM. I have contacted them for a warranty RMA.

To everyone complaining about throttling, it absolutely is the VRM temperature. Load up GPU-Z and you can see the temp of the VRM gets really high, then the card throttles. This is the exact problem that the first MSI 280x had in reviews where the card would throttle under load. MSI addressed the issue by releasing a firmware update that fixed the problem. Sapphire hasn't done so.

As for the reviewer complaining about oil (and then Sapphire denying it) . . . there ABSOLUTELY is oil everywhere. They used some really thin oil for the giant thermal pad that sits between the VRM and the VRM heatsink. This leaks oil when the VRM gets hot, which eventually decreases your thermal conductivity between the VRM and the VRM heatsink since the thermal pad dries out. My card is burnt out, and there is oil leaking from the thermal pad.

Other Thoughts: If you are a miner buy virtually any other 280x. These are failures waiting to happen. If you are a gamer, get a card that won't throttle during gaming.

5 out of 5 eggsGood for mining

Pros: Good card for mining, I have 3 and am getting 710-725 per card. Also, they run pretty cool, 70-75c constant. Stable overclocked.

Cons: Had some trouble undervolting the cards, so I just left them at stock.

Other Thoughts: MOON

3 out of 5 eggsDecent card, but buyer beware

Pros: Good card, price is somewhat reasonable, though you can find this card elsewhere without the price jacked up this high.

Most of the pros just come from it being a 280x period. Its a fast card that will allow great gaming.

Cons: Sapphire BIOS in this card has temperature throttling way too early. Luckily I am a software engineer and know how to work around such things.

If you're looking to mine with this thing, be prepared to work for anything above 700 KHs. Once you get the bios right and settings right, it can pull 730+ though.

Other Thoughts: I was able to work around the issues. I use it for gaming and for other purposes (see cons).
