5 out of 5 eggsThe Penultimate Budget Card

Pros: The temps are relatively low-- only 31-35 degrees C while idle, no higher than 60-65 under max load.

Gaming performance is excellent-- quite a few modern releases can be cranked up to max settings at 1080p, and if you don't mind medium, the 3GB of VRAM will give you solid 1440p gaming.

Max settings, 60 FPS! Alan Wake, Battlefield, Red Faction Guerilla, and more... only the latest Gameworks titles will give you trouble, and that's because of Nvidia's shady behavior. The card itself is amazing.

No coil whine whatsoever. The only noise is its fans, and even that's not a big deal.

Cons: Vastly Outweighed by the Pros:

It gets loud under load. The fans ramp up to about 49%, and when the game goes silent (AKA because I'm bad at games and lose a lot), you can hear it. I recommend using headphones, but for the most part, speakers won't be too much of a hassle. Keep in mind, the noise is a bit louder for me since I have my card open-air cooled rather than in your typical case.

The TDP is nothing small, and AMD jokes aside, the room does get a bit hot after about an hour of using this card.

Just a bit outdated-- let me tell you, I got a bit worried when I opened the box and saw a Crossfire bridge... on an AMD card.

Other Thoughts: I can't take away an egg for these small inconveniences, because everything else about the card has been perfect. Nvidia would have charged you around $300 for a good 1080p/1440p card, and here I am getting almost the same experience for $180. My only regret was picking the free "Super Eggsaver" shipping that made delivery take a week, as this card has passed every test I've thrown at it with flying colors.

AMD has made me their fanboy, and I won't object to it.

4 out of 5 eggsSolid

Pros: Runs well, fits with my blue theme, runs most of the games I play on max or really high. super quiet. My pc actually puts out colder air than what went in.

Cons: Can't run the newest games on max, but running two in crossfire can.

3 out of 5 eggsKilled my PSU

Pros: The pro for this card is works as well, for the 15 minutes I was able to use it before it killed my 550W power supply.

Cons: The 500W power supply requirement is not accurate. I had a 550W bronze certified Thermaltake PSU, and within 15 minutes of using the card for gaming, the power supply was fried.

Other Thoughts: If you have at least a 600W power supply, this is a pretty good card. But, do not use it with anything lower.

4 out of 5 eggsTwo steps forward one step back.

Pros: Affordable and powerful 3GB card for a good price.

Unlike the 7950 w/Boost, this card has solved the problem of the core clock being unstable and now properly sustains its boost.

Cons: The cooler isn't as nice as previous Dual-X models.

The stock fan profile is not aggressive enough.

Lack of VRM temperature sensors makes overclocking a little more challenging.

Other Thoughts: I got this card to crossfire with my 7950 boost. Both are Dual-X models and are very similar. The 100373L has a few less heatpipes and a less aggressive fan curve making it run hotter.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat price/performance ratio

Pros: Runs cooler than lots of other cards in the same price range.

Overclocks well.

Surprisingly powerful.

Provides some of the best performance per dollar that I have found.

Almost silent when not under load.

Cons: Can't run new games at max settings and still maintain 60fps.

Other Thoughts: I was a little worried when I bought this card that it may not have the power to run the games that I enjoy. I can say that I have been pleasantly surprised by it. The card overclocks well, runs very quiet when it's not under load, and plays most games at high or max settings. However, don't expect to play anything like Witcher 3 or Shadow of Mordor at max settings think that you're going to get anywhere near 60 fps.

Overall, I would recommend this card to anyone who is looking for the most bang for their buck in a budget build.

5 out of 5 eggsWow

Pros: Has breathed a lot of new life into an old system.

Cons: Large format for a small case. Required a PSU upgrade.

Other Thoughts: I got this GPU to run DirectX 11 games on an old Athlon II X2 280, 16 GB PC2-6400 RAM, Win 7 HP, 120GB SSD, MCP61P Chipset, Thermotake SP-550 PSU, and added cooling fans. Between the PSU and the GPU upgrades, the old eMachine has become quite the DirectX 11 gaming machine. Running on highest resolution without a hiccup. I am impressed that the old CPU can keep up.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing price, best of Upper-Mid level

Pros: Great software comes with card to manage any settings, especially makes using more than one screen an easy setup and you can tweak a lot of different settings to your liking.

I've never found this card to run terribly hot but if it does you can OC the fan to 100% easily for games like Witcher 3.

It's never once failed me on any game and rarely, as I said before, runs hot.

Cons: Like all R9s (minus the 285) it is pretty bad at tessellation.

Also it is completely unable to run "Hairworks" from nVidia for W3. Not a deal breaker but something to think about if you are going for games that use nVidia software and/or tessellation.

Other Thoughts: As tessellating is becoming the new wave in graphical prowess for games, and relatively fast too, I suspect that this card will not last me much longer if I want to run new games on 720p.

I will definitely be upgrading to the R9 285 since it has a vast improvement in tessellation and I suggest many high-end rig gamers do the same.
