5 out of 5 eggsReview amendment

Pros: Same as previously stated, except for the grotesque typo\math error regarding the effective memory clock. For some ungodly reason I stated that I went from 1800mhz to 2880mhz. This of course is incorrect. I was actually able to go from 1800 to 1900. This was with Vtune. Using Riva-tuner, one could theoretically achieve even higher clock speeds with the right combination of technology and power.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Must learn to proofread my work before I post....

5 out of 5 eggsFine Chunk of Machinery

Pros: Very fine piece of equipment. I was able to OC it very high without any artifacting, boxes, lines, etc. I got the Shader Clock up to 1700 (1512 stock), the Core Clock up to 780 (700 stock), and the Real Memory clock to 960mhz (stock real clock 600) Since it's GDDR3 that means the 'effective' memory clock jumped from 1800mhz to 2880mhz. The most important thing to note is that I achieved this with air-cooling and a full stress test in Furmark (Xtreme Burning Mode, Displacement Mapping, Post FX) without exceeding 70C.

Cons: The fan is loud at 100%, but since I grew up with a box fan on full blast pointing straight at me as I slept, I tend to find such sounds soothing. (It's not nearly as loud as the box fan anyway)

Other Thoughts: Get excited about the overclocking prospects all you want, but I encourage you to read up on the topic before you go nuts on it. I don't want to be responsible for any melting computer parts. Palit was a hidden gem, I will most definitely be buying from them again.

5 out of 5 eggsRuns on very little power.

Pros: One of these can run a solid 350 watt power supply. EVGA precision can be used to clock them to normal speeds for a GTS 250.

Cons: To quote Vazel:
"If you're getting this for supposed power saving features reviews have shown that at load these 'green' edition GTS 250s use the same power as a proper GTS 250. These 'green' edition GTS 250s are a way for them to get rid of 9800GTXs."

Notice that he doesn't mention a source for those reviews. This is because he made it up. There are no reviews that prove this, because it isn't true. These are not reference GTS 250's. They are designed by Palit engineers based on newer specifications and use less power than the original GTS 250, the 9800 GTX+ (which the GTS 250 is based upon), and way less power than the original 9800 GTX (which needed two power connectors).

Other Thoughts: If you look at the PCB of the old 9800 GTX (which was 65 nanometer architecture) and you look at one of these you can clearly see its an entirely different card. This card is much smaller, uses only one power connector and uses much less energy. These cards are also smaller than the standard 55 nanometer GTS 250's.

I'm not even sure if they use the same 55 nanometer G92b GPU. They might be using something smaller and newer, but that is just speculation.

All the power of an 8800 Ultra, but running on a fraction of the power.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Bought the card with a good rebate deal. It was a quick replacement for a troublesome 4850.

Cons: Clock speed is not 700 like it says in the specs, it is 675. Lowered clock speeds make this a 9800GTX. There's really no reason to get this card, for similar prices you can get a proper GTS 250.

If you're getting this for supposed power saving features reviews have shown that at load these 'green' edition GTS 250s use the same power as a proper GTS 250. These 'green' edition GTS 250s are a way for them to get rid of 9800GTXs.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Vazel,

The purpose of the Green edition is to make video card more efficient while idling. You can always over clock to 700 or more.

5 out of 5 eggsPleasantly surprised

Pros: Great little card. Wasn't sure of the brand at first, but it was getting steady positive reviews. Shows a Windows 7 WEI score of 6.9. Runs steady at 42/43C. Fan quiet. Have only used the VGA output so far, with current 19"monitor. Eventually going to 22" with the DVI output.

Cons: None!!

Other Thoughts: Would definately buy again! Might look at 1GB memory next time, but no real reason. 512 is fine if your not trying to run wall sized dual monitors Depends on the $$. A perfect upgrade would be if they upped the memory from DDR3 to DDR5.

3 out of 5 eggsDecent for the money

Pros: Plays all my games on highest settings: SC2, TF2, HoN, L4D. Outputs 60fps most of the time.

Cons: In games my screen will randomly go black for a second, make a buzzing sound, then my fps will be horrible for a couple minutes until returning to normal. I've tried updating the drivers and that did not resolve the problem.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Anonymous,

Looking at the game you've played. Starcraft 2, Hero of Newerth are in BETA which is in testing mode and will have alot of issue and compatibilities.

Please call us at 1-877-934-7932 for further assistant. Provide us with your specs and or RMA number. We will take care of this matter with high priority.

4 out of 5 eggsGood for single-card Motherboards

Pros: Works like a champ. Definitely an upgrade from an 8800GT. Compares to a 9800GTX+ but with better support and longevity. Plays all my games (Fallout 3, TF2, DOW2, Allods) at max settings (with 4xAA, 4xAF) on 1980x1200 24" monitor, 60fps average.

Cons: Does NOT support SLI. You can see in the pictures that there is no port for an SLI bridge. You can get the same card for the exact same price that DOES support SLI, so logically this card should be cheaper - but it isn't. I would say this is fine for motherboards with only one PCI-E slot, but for the same price, why not get an SLI-Ready card and wait to upgrade the motherboard? Less features should make for lower price in my book.

Other Thoughts: It bugs me when people give 1 egg for small stuff. This is a great card, the only issue is no SLI support. Not enough to give it ONLY 1 egg, just enough to subtract one FROM it.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome value card

Pros: Popped it in, blazes through anything I throw at it. Cheap, fast, what else could you ask for? CODMW2 is amazing with this thing after going through three 8-series GPU upgrades. Fully satisfied.

Cons: Nothing!

Other Thoughts: I wanted to upgrade my old PC:
AST180-DU400B Acer Aspire(which is a very low end PC)
Athlon X2 2.2Ghz
1GB GT 240
2GB DDR2 667
Stock PSU
Windows Vista 32-bit(I know, I know...I'll be upgrading that later)

Now I have this:
Athlon X2 6000+(3.0 Ghz)
4GB DDR2 800
512 MB GTS 250
585 Watts PSU AND it's blingin'! Smooth graphics, blazes through everything I've been throwing at it.

5 out of 5 eggsVery impressed so far

Pros: It is a good fit for a mATX case such as mine. It fit quited nicely in with my setup. Temps are running 38 C idle and around 58 gaming which is nice. The card is a great value. Vtune lets you set your fan depending on what you are doing. I find the card nice an quiet even with the fan set higher.

Cons: None I can think of.

5 out of 5 eggsOne cool value card!!

Pros: Runs cool with stock cooling, core/shader speeds adjust according to load, awesome value

Cons: A copper heatsink would've been nice (though not realistic for the price) and I hope the fan lasts. Fan defaults at 35%, regardless of load.

Other Thoughts: This is my first Palit and, so far, I am impressed. It replaced an 8800GT of identical specs (65nm, 700 Core, 1500 Shader) that was hitting over 100° C under load, but that was an airflow issue. It has the mostly-closed, rear-venting type cooler and, due to a motherboard upgrade, it sat at the top of the small case I had it in, stifling airflow to the blower. This one has similar cooling but is more open for improved airflow from the sides. I had to use R***Tuner to increase the fan speed from 35% to 85% and my temps never went past 70° under extended load, which is good in the particular case I have it in. I don't think there is a better card out there for the price I got it for -- just under one hundred bucks delivered. An excellent gaming card, giving me 7200 in 3DMark Vantage with an X2 3.0GHz & 3GB DDR2. Sure, the scores aren't top end, but are great for any 3D game you would want to play at medium settings.
