2 out of 5 eggsGamers: do your research before buying

This review is from: EVGA 04G-P4-3748-KR GeForce GT 740 Superclocked 4GB 128-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 Video Card

Pros: Sleek design, quiet able to do up to 3 monitors. Can run some games on adjusted medium. Very cheap for how good the card looks.

Cons: I should have done my research when I bought this card. It's an entry level card for pc gaming, but games like skyrim you're going to have to play on low for you to get 60fps. If you're looking to play games like GTA V, look elsewhere. The sleek design and 3 monitors is not worth it. If you're looking for a card, just save your money and get a more expensive one.

5 out of 5 eggsEVGA GeForce GT 740

This review is from: EVGA 04G-P4-3748-KR GeForce GT 740 Superclocked 4GB 128-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 Video Card

Pros: With 4GB of 128-bit GDDR5 memory at a price of $122.99, this product is hard to turn down. The technology that went into manufacturing these cards makes them a great buy. It is designed for the PCI Express 3.0 slot, but is backward compatible ( I have a PCI Express 2.0 slot ). Price compare other 4GB cards and you'll see why I gave it my thrifty seal of approval.

Cons: None.

1 out of 5 eggsUpgrade

This review is from: EVGA 04G-P4-3748-KR GeForce GT 740 Superclocked 4GB 128-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 Video Card

Pros: I just purchased this Graphics card for my ENVY H8-1455. This card will be used as an upgrade for the manufacture installed card. (See Specs Below) My current card is neither fast enough, nor has enough VRAM capacity for most of the newer games. So for me to be able to play with higher resolutions, and maintain a safe & steady frame rate, an upgrade to my graphics card was inevitable. Currently my 2GB HD 7570 128-bit DDR3 presets to High on most base games, with a struggle for 60 FPS. Any Modifications or Third Party after effects hit the VRAM pretty hard, struggling to reach 20 FPS, which isn't even close to enough. The upgrade to GDDR5 on this card is very welcome and should add some much needed speed. The impact I am sure, wont be too significant, but should be noticeable. Still 128-Bit, but the price jump from 128-Bit to 256-Bit was more than I am willing to spend on this PC. The jump up to 4 GB with this card will help with some of the games I play, that peak closer to, or over 2 GB of VRAM usage. My HD 7570 core clock runs at a base 650Mhz, so the boost to 1085Mhz also should help with the needed speed. So this card improves on 3 important aspects, that should provide enough of a boost that I am looking for. Price to product ratio is good for what it provides.

Cons: Still is only 128-Bit memory, would prefer 256 or 512 upgrade. (I understand that this is an older model series.)

Other Thoughts: System Specs:
i7-3770k Processor
IPMMB-FM (Formosa) Mobo
2TB HD
AMD Radeon HD 7570
Windows 8

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: EVGA 04G-P4-3748-KR GeForce GT 740 Superclocked 4GB 128-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 Video Card

Pros: It turns my gaming machine into what it was intended to do, it supports monitors up to 240hz, and will be ordering a 144hz here soon.

Cons: it takes 2 slots up in your computer, however they do make a single slot but its a little slower.

Other Thoughts: I dont play games like battlefeild, wow, etc.. I play age of empires, simcity, but it turned my machine into what it was intended to do like i mentioned. Ive been playing simcity 5 with the nVidia optimization and the graphics super smooth, fast, and no lag.

5 out of 5 eggsworks well with Linux

This review is from: EVGA 04G-P4-3748-KR GeForce GT 740 Superclocked 4GB 128-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 Video Card

Pros: installed without difficulty on Linux Mageia-4 64 bit. I had to recompile and reinstall the nvidia driver because I use drivers from nvidia rather than the packaged driver provided by my distro, but I have to recompile that driver any time I make a change that affects the graphics anyway. Card works without issue, supports the 3D rendering, supports compiz, is quite adequately fast.

Cons: none noted so far

Other Thoughts: I purchased this card for the memory, to replace a GT-240 with 1 GB of memory because I kept running out of video memory. My system has 32 GB main memory, I use a 1920x1080 monitor, run 16 desktops, and run many virtual machines, mostly with graphical interfaces. After installing this card, I noted that this card, unlike its predecessor, reports on memory usage. It showed me that I am routinely using about 1.5 GB of video RAM, hence my problems with the 1GB card become obvious. Card installed without issue, and I now seem to have plenty of graphical headroom...and it shows because my earlier problems with the display (which would have been manifesting by now) are completely gone.

5 out of 5 eggsVery capable vid card

This review is from: EVGA 04G-P4-3748-KR GeForce GT 740 Superclocked 4GB 128-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 Video Card

Pros: Easy install, test out very well on Passmark and Cinebench. Frame rates are up over AUSU hero Mobo and along with the SSD RAID 0 configuration the system is zippy fast.

Cons: none so far.
