Give your home theater PC a kick in the case with AVermedia's Duet. Designed to receive HDTV over the air (ATSC) or Unencrypted Digital Cable (ClearQAM*) on your PC, it's a dual digital tuner that works with a PCI-e interface for a more stable, higher bandwidth connection than with PCI. This dual tuner is able to let you watch one program while recording another at the same time, so you never miss your favorites!

This digital TV receiver not only receives Over-the-Air (ATSC)/Unencrypted ClearQAM (Digital Cable) signals but supports HD sound and image quality up to 1080i resolution, with variable aspect ratios of 4:3 and 16:9. Thanks to the high bandwidth of the PCIex1 interface you can watch flicker free HDTV on your Windows Media Center PC. Advanced PVR functionality lets you pause and rewind live TV, schedule recordings ahead of time and fast forward through the show to watch it at your own pace.

So what are you waiting for? Just give your existing HTPC a “power boost” to enrich your digital entertainment experience.

3 out of 5 eggsSolid Tuner Card

Pros: Dual tuners, sensitive tuner, good price, easy setup.

Cons: Not compatible with Windows "sleep" function. Sensitive to overheating (causes stations with full signal to stutter).

Other Thoughts: I have owned three of these cards through a few different HTPC builds. This card does not always work if you put your PC to sleep (make sure your PC is always on when you are recording). Also, this card can easily overheat. I had this next to a very hot video card and it would show 6 green bars of signal for all stations (the highest Windows Media Center displays), but the stations would stutter and act like there was poor reception. I cracked open my case while watching TV and suddenly all the channels worked. If you have reception problems with this card, I would pop open your case and have a desk fan blow on your tuner card to see if it helps. I was astonished to see that heat caused better signal quality. Next up for me is to install a fan in the side of the case to blow directly across this card and to add some heat sinks on the two signal processors.
When this card is working properly – it is a dream. Hopefully the newer revisions of this card fix the wake from sleep issue and include a heatsink.

4 out of 5 eggsRead the fine Print

Pros: It tunes HD content very well.

Cons: Make sure you read the specs. If you connect for use with an HD antenna, or to ONLY get the HD channels from a cable connection, this card is the bomb. If you want to tune any SD channels from your cable connection this card is not for you. Not its fault, but read before you purchase.

Other Thoughts: While connected the HD channels viewed, and recorded where great.

2 out of 5 eggsWish Live TV on MCE worked

Pros: It records tv shows absolutely perfectly.
Dual Tuners are great to record two shows at once
The included software works great for watching live tv (however, I don't want to use the included AP)

Cons: CANNOT WATCH LIVE TV WITH WINDOWS MCE without the audio and video severely breaking up.

Can't use a windows media center remote with included software.

Other Thoughts: It would be one of the best products out there if only AVerMedia and Windows MCE could work out a driver that actually works.
I will give it 5 eggs when this happens.

This computer is a fresh build with all updated drivers, so it's not my computer
I believe the problem resides with windows because live tv playback with the AVermedia Center works without any hitches.
Please contact me if you have had similar issues and worked them out.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks Well, Except After S3 Sleep

Pros: The card works well in Media Center when it comes to viewing and recording ATSC HDTV coming in from the antenna. Picture quality is top-notch. Sensitivity seems to be high as I can pick up all the channels I expect plus some I didn't expect. The dual tuners work perfectly so that I can record/watch two shows at once.

Cons: If the computer ever enters S3 sleep mode it will come back telling me that there's no tuner installed. Even a reboot won't fix it. The only solution is to shutdown the computer entirely and unplug it for about 10 minutes. This can be highly annoying as you might imagine.

Other Thoughts: I was previously using the Avermedia Combo PCIe tuner, which worked like a dream. I could put my HTPC into S3 sleep when not in use, it would wake up for scheduled recordings and then put itself back to sleep when done. It was perfect for keeping things quiet and keeping power usage at a minimum. That is not possible with this card, but I want dual tuners and the price is right. With a few system tweaks as well as undervolting and underclocking I've found a middle ground I can live with.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

Some motherboards are not build to specification causing the HD Duet to not be available when resuming from sleep. Since the issue is occuring with the motherboard that you are using we can provide you with a replacement HD Duet that will fix the issue.

Please contact Technical Support to have it replaced.

3 out of 5 eggsCaution!

Pros: Easy installation.

Cons: No comment.

Other Thoughts: Read the product description _very_ carefully. This device does not work with analog signals at all. It was only after buying this card (and failing to get it to work) that I was able to read the manual to see that if you want to decode analog tv (ie, a basic cable feed) you need a separate NTSC decoder card.

Please Newegg, add links to the manufacturers' user and installation manuals to your item descriptions.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

AVerTVHD Duet is a digital TV Tuner and supports ATSC / ClearQAM which is mentioned clearly on the product description.

Please contact Technical Support if you have any questions.

5 out of 5 eggsDual Tuner Bliss

Pros: A DUAL-Tuner that actually works for Two HD Over-theAir signals at the same time. Finally! (for me). Previous Dual-tuners were often described in ways that it was confusing whether they could handle Digital+Digital or Digital+Analog signals only. Finally here is a product that clearly works as described, and via just one Coaxial input at that (Very convenient actually).
Setup with NPVR easily. Didn't even need the CD and appreciated the WhiteBox OEM version of this, as I could care less about retail packaging and more remotes.
The two tuners are shown (in NPVR) as
AVerMedia 716x BDA ARSC DC Tuner:1
AVerMedia 716x BDA ARSC DC Tuner:2

The card is nicely low-profile.

Cons: See 'Other Thoughts' for what could have been a major 'CON', but that has cleared up. The device now works as expected.

Other Thoughts: Upon first run in NPVR, an odd issue came up where the tuners would not stop recording after the scheduled times, and there was an odd file beside the video file, similarly named but with 'timing info' appended to the end - BUT that has now stopped happening and I have no idea what happened. Now they function as expected.

The pictures on NewEgg sometimes show the bracket as having an extra Coaxial port hole, but my card did not (as it should not).

1 out of 5 eggsCard is nice, tech support not so

Pros: Worked very well with Windows 7 Media Center. Only need one coax connection but has 2 tuners so can watch 1 station while recording a another.

Cons: Tech support, if support is what it is. After about 5 months, one tuner quit working. I had a 2nd card in another PC, so I swapped cards, the 2nd card both tuners worked fine. Contacted AverMedia Tech support with this info. Is that enough to demonstrate that the 1st card is bad? Not according to AverMedia. You must install some type of remote software & give them 2 days notice & they'll remote into your PC because you don't know how to install or use our hardware / software.

Other Thoughts: As long as you don't have to contact AverMedia for any "Support" you're fine, otherwise....

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

Since one AVerTVHD Duet works fine and the other one is only able to work with one TV Tuner than the TV Tuner is defective and will need a replacement. Please submit a request providing the exact troubleshooting steps you have taken to have the RMA replacement.

5 out of 5 eggsPrefect HTPC Card

Pros: Dual HD tuners! Using this with a Comcast QAM signal and its great. This sound encoding is incredible. I am using optical sound and the card encodes amazing sound!! Drivers installed in 30 problems.

Cons: This tuner is not picking up discovery channel. I went through WIN7 the setup process multiple times and it just didn't pick it up. I called my provider and they said there were no issues with their programming. It still earned all 5 eggs because I have not isolated the problem to the card.

Other Thoughts: Would have been nice to use windows drivers...but not a big deal downloading them. No reason to buy the retail version.
