1 out of 5 eggsDidn't last long

Pros: When it worked it seemed to be great.

Cons: Blew out after very little use.

Other Thoughts: I decided to write this review after all I have had to put up with. I bought this tuner and it set up easily and worked well. I used it a few times for OTA channels and then it sat unused for a couple months. When I went to use it again on a cable system it would not find any channels when it scanned. After a lot of time trying many scans and emails attempting things ultimately I was sent to their RMA division. This did turn out to be a defective device not of my doing but of course I had to pay to ship it back. Then, I suppose partially my fault it was sent to an old address of mine and not the one I sent it back from. Then I had to go through a bunch of rigamarol, lost time and a $5. cost to get that straightened out. I had better get a properly working device that lasts a long time or I will be back to tell. A lot of this junk is just that, junk. That is known by all and there needs to be more responsibility and the costs bore by the manufacturers and sellers. I am not very impressed with newegg either in these type of things. They hand off the warranty after a short period of time usually 30 days to the manufacturer and for example like this item I am then dealing with all of these shenanigans and extra shipping costs. If an item is only going to last a short time newegg should warranty it themselves. Not my first go around with egg with something like this.

1 out of 5 eggsProblems detecting card

Pros: None, from my experience.

Cons: The card was detected by Windows 7 Professional (64-bit) as a usb composite device under human interface devices. I couldn't get it to see the drivers correctly at all. Also, the software that came with this card was fairly useless at correcting the issue, or seeing it's own hardware installed. I'm in the process of returning it now. I'm a Systems Administrator who has worked in Information Technology for over 15 years. I can normally make anything work. I wasted two hours last night trying to get two of these cards running on my media center, then had to revert to the old cards. I'm not happy.

Other Thoughts: This card probably just has issues with 64-bit Windows, I'm assuming the glowing reviews that lead me to this purchase were based on 32-bit installs.

3 out of 5 eggsDOA on Arival

Pros: Switching between Low Profile and Standard Bracket very easy.

Cons: Arrived DOA. Saw channels and signal strength but failed to display video or sound. Returned for refund.

5 out of 5 eggsTwo tuner setup working great

Pros: Easy installation of hardware and drivers. Works very well.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: I've had two these cards for almost a year now (1 year in April 2014). In the original motherboard, I was having issues with the second being recognized. After contacting the motherboard manufacturer, I was able to troubleshoot (mobo configurations were the issue) and get them working only to have a storm fry the motherboard. The current motherboard I planned better for and got one with two PCI-E slots, and everything ran smoothly from day one install.

The cards integrate very well with WMC. I have been able to successfully record 4 shows at once while I flipped back to the TV and watch a 5th at the same time on many occasions, and even with a single antenna powering the whole house (Newegg item N82E16882125334), I got clean recordings - no digitization.

I would highly recommend, and I am currently considering getting a third card so I can have a single tuner and a more powerful video card attached to my main TV since I get digitized signals when watching OTA through my TV.

5 out of 5 eggsBest purchase in years

Pros: Installed quick and easy- I didnt install the Avermedia software, just the driver.
Dual tuners
Works in windows 7 and 8
Have it hooked up to OTA antenna and receive about 30 channels.

Cons: My channel for ABC does not come in well; most likely this is due to local signal strength as I have adjusted the antenna too.

Other Thoughts: Windows Media Center is one of the most underutilized software. I am extremely impressed with the simplicity of this card and WMC.
Replaced our Tivo and cable bills!

5 out of 5 eggsGood HTPC card

Pros: Dual Tuners in a single slot. WMC picked right up after configuring the MB (See Below). Records dual channels without a problem. Cost was right.

Cons: Not as much info for the card. It seems like there is a larger user base on the Hauppauge tuners.

Other Thoughts: I saw a lot of reviews with the card not recognized, but I think most of these people didn't configure the MB. It doesn't pop in with default MB settings in a PCIex16 slot, but when I set the MB BIOS to operate the slot in Gen 1 mode, the card was detected and installed right away. Operating on a ASRock H81M-ITX in the x16 slot with i3 and 4400 graphics. HD looks great OTA!

1 out of 5 eggsSomething to consider...

Pros: Small card. Doesn't take up too much real estate, once installed.

Coax connector is very solidly mounted.

Cons: Sadly, everything else.

Other Thoughts: The card was not recognized by my system at all (running Windows 7 64). I tried different PCIe slots, and everything related to the drivers and software. No luck, after two days of working with it.

There is a reason why this card, along with all of their PCIe-based tuner cards, have been discontinued for some time now. Avermedia was clearly not able to circumvent the reliability issues that are apparent from the reviews here. Having a poorly-designed driver/software package certainly didn't help.

You may get lucky, and this card will work for you. However, do not take the negative reviews for this card with any salt. Unless you know that this card will work for you before buying it, save your money and get a Hauppauge card.
