From one of the premiere names in professional video comes the DualHead2Go Digital Edition. Matrox has designed this adapter to easily split your display across three monitors, even if your computer only has one output. Just connect your computer into the D-Sub port and monitors to the DVI ports and get a new definition of "widescreen".

You can have one application open on each monitor, or you can stretch an application across all three. This lets you have all of a graphics programs tools on one screen and the uncluttered image on the other. Gamers get an expanded field of view to give them a great advantage since they can better see who is sneaking up on them.

  • newegg Exceptional Multi-display Solution With the Matrox DualHead2Go Digital Edition Graphic eXpansion Module, add up to two monitors to your system previously limited to a single monitor for maximum onscreen real estate.
  • newegg Easy to Install The Matrox DualHead2Go Digital Edition Graphic eXpansion Module connects externally to your system - there is no need to open the computer case to insert parts or to replace any hardware or software.
  • newegg VGA Input for Analog With a D-Sub connector, the matrox DualHead2Go Digital Edition (D2G-A2D-IF) supports analog VGA input for great compatibility with computers and other video source devices.

1 out of 5 eggsOverpriced, poor quality

Pros: can use 2 screens

Cons: Doesn't work

Other Thoughts: Bought one few months ago and it worked for about a month. Then I installed DisplayFusion and it was constantly conflicting with that. Maximizing various applications like YouTube was outright broken (it would stretch over 2 screens).

Then it just stopped working completely. No power light, nothing... tried everything, plugging into different ports, re installing drivers, making sure my usb is powered, trying different computer, etc. Couldn't find any solutions online or manual, guess I just threw away $200.

I don't recommend buying this product.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic!

Pros: Combines (2) 1080p monitors into a single,virtual 3840x1080 monitor

Lets laptop utilize (3) monitors with a single VGA output (laptop screen + 2 externals)

Functionally, it's perfect. I have it strapped to my dual-monitor stand, with the cables all neatly wrapped. Used the HD15 VGA cable that came with the monitor to bring the cable to the laptop. USB is connected to a hub, so the ONLY reason to connect USB to the laptop is to take advantage of features in Matrox Powerdesk (maximize to the monitor where the application resides, etc.) Alternately, you could power this off of a spare USB wall-wart, assuming that you didn't want the Powerdesk functionality.

Cons: Setup can be tricky ... the new GUI for Matrox Powerdesk is inferior to the old version that I had for a TripleHead2Go digital. It's prettier and has a few more options, but it seems to be more difficult to use.

If the VGA cable is disconnected without power cycling the laptop, when it is reconnected, the Matrox unit connects to the monitors with an unsupported timing/resolution scheme. Words of advice - save your favorite configuration to a keyboard acclerator (mine is CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+0). Makes recovering from the above situation easy as pie.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Extensive set of software parameters to tune resolution and layout of displays
Good automatic recognition of external monitor capabilities
Matrox website offers simple download/program to verify compatibility of the specific model of this product series with your specific graphics chipset

Cons: Quick Setup program did very poor job arranging my displays in sensible manner (it duplicated builtin display onto 1 of the 2 external monitors while leaving other external monitor blank)
Help guide gave basic troubleshooting ideas, but not very thorough

Other Thoughts: This required 20-30 minutes of experimentation and tweaking on 3 different screens of settings to configure my DualHead2Go as intended.
However, once configured, I've been very happy with how it maintains the settings and works exactly as I hoped.

5 out of 5 eggsworks w/Linux or Macbook Air just fine

Pros: Does what it claims; used w/older video cards on Linux
and 2010-11 era Macbook Air w/the VGA adapter
It succeeds in fooling the computer into thinking I have 1 large monitor w/no problems
Sure beats messing with multiple video cards

Cons: none really
DVI input might be nice but adapters work
could be higher resolution (1920x1440 is what my 4 year old 24")
monitors can do; this only goes 1920x1200 and less off a Macbook Air
which I dont use very much anyway

Other Thoughts: Plan to use with a 6 year old ATI Radeon dual headed video card
and 3 24" Samsung monitors to get 2 x 1920x1200 (via DVItoVGA adapter then into DualHead2Go into
the older Samsungs) and 1 x 1920 x 1080 (out the 2nd Radeon DVI port into a brand new 24" Samsung)
It took Linux (PCLOS) KDE System Hardware Settings to get all this setup and working together (no hand edits to xorg.conf for once)

4 out of 5 eggsGreat product - if you need it

Pros: Does what it says it does

Cons: Complicated, error prone setup

Other Thoughts: I am a consultant and most of my clients insist that I use their equipment for security reasons. I am most often given a junky Windows xp laptop with a mediocre video card. This majorly impacts my productivity. As a Data Architect, I am most productive when I can have numerous windows open fullscreen, side by side on my two 24" screens.
I will echo what others have said about the clumsy, confusing, and error-prone setup. First of all, throw away the CD that comes with the product and just go get the latest drivers from the Matrox website. The ones that came on my disc just didn't work at all. First you need to install the drivers, then set the screen resolution using the normal windows desktop setup. Only after these two steps can you set up the Matrox display software to your liking. The Matrox setup utilities provide all sorts of controls, allowing you to set where windows open.
Highly recommended, although only 4 stars due to the cumbersome setup.

4 out of 5 eggsPleased so far.....

Pros: It does what is intended - I can indeed use both 24" monitors off of 1 VGA output from my laptop.

Based on my research nothing else on the market is offered so that is a plus for Matrox.

Cons: So far I can't seem to get the taskbar on a single screen. As the internal graphics card is disabled when in use, the input shows as one screen in the display settings.

Other Thoughts: I was very leery to purchase this product based on the many bad reviews I have seen online. I am glad I gave it a shot though as I can now view my desktop on two large screens and at 3480 x1080 which I will never use. Looks fantastic now that I am not viewing a maxed out laptop screen on a single 24" monitor.

4 out of 5 eggsBuying my second one

Pros: Been running my first one 2x1920x1200 for well over a year.
Going to put a second one in my office 2x1920x1080

Cons: A couple resets were required but nothing major.
Seems to be sensitive to the cabling.

Other Thoughts: A good product. Wish the MacBook Pro video could push 3x1920x1080 then I'd upgrade to the triple.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat product

Pros: Easy to setup and small hardware box profile.

Cons: I had to bypass my docking station and run VGA cable directly from the laptop to the dualhead2go box. My wife uses it with her docking station just fine, so I think it is a case by case with each docking station and lap. Small issue compared to the huge benefits of having two screens!

Other Thoughts: The software provided gives you a lot of flexibility on how applications behave on the two monitors including controlling popup windows such as save confirmation windows, etc.

3 out of 5 eggsBe sure your resolution is supported!

Pros: I like this product, like matrox, and like the concept.

Cons: I got the digital edition (max res 3840x1200) to run two 1280x1024 monitors (2560x1024) with my Macbook Air (max res 2560x1600). The required resolution is under the max of both, so I thought it would work, but it does not due to a bizarre feature of the VGA output on the Macbook Air, so I have to return this and get the DisplayPort version.

Other Thoughts: Check to see whether your desired resolution will be supported before you buy! Matrox provides a "GXM Compatibility List" page that lists the resolutions that would be available to most graphics cards.
