Hauppauge turns your PC into an HDTV with their WinTV-HVR-1800. This PCIe X1 card has three tuners: FM radio, NTSC, and ATSC/clear QAM. The NTSC tuner is a 125 channel cable ready tuner for all of your standard over the air broadcasts or regular cable TV. The ATSC/clear QAM tuner supports all 18 ATSC formats including 1080i. You can watch the programming live or record it to disk as an MPEG-2 program stream.
There is also an S-Video input with coax audio inputs so you can attach a VCR to copy your old tapes onto DVD. An S-Video to composite adapter makes it possible to use a wider range of machines with the card.
The included Hauppauge WinTV2000 application lets you toggle between tuners so it is easy to watch what you want. Or, Windows Vista Media center will let you use the card as one of its tuners for seamless Vista integration. To make it easier to use there is a full function remote control included.
Pros: having this in one of the pci-e slots is great (haven't had a use for those 1 4 and 8x slots yet!). Vista Media Center works great with it. All the stations look great, have very fast channel changing. S-video and audio in, great for running my wii through the system (my pc serves as my tv, movie, game center through a projector), however it took a bit of searching to find the right program that would allow the s-video to just play through instead of being 5 seconds behind for live-tv pausing.. good stuff.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: I endured the 'tuner not found' message while trying to set this up in vista mce.. not the card's fault, but after 6 hours of google-ing, I finally found this.. give it a go if you get that blasted message: 1. Press Start+R buttons on keyboard. 2. Type "services.msc" without quotes in box. 3. Scroll down to Windows Media Center services (should be 4 or 5 of them). 4. Make sure they are all set on "Automatic" and enable all of them. These services have to be enabled in order for WMC to work properly.

Pros: Easy to install and setup Works great with media center in Vista
Cons: Can't get FM radio tuner to work in Vista x64 Provided WinTV software tends to go bonkers when you start scrolling through paused TV, to skip commercials and what not.
Other Thoughts: I use this card regularly to tune over the air HD television (ATSC). Picture quality is outstanding. I definitely would recommend this card to others

Pros: It installed with no real issues and it works. The software it comes with is sufficient for scheduling while I figure out how to get WMC to control my DirecTv set top box (more about this in the cons). Allows me to watch TV and do homework with my dual monitor set up.
Cons: I ordered the 1800 but was sent the 1850 and now I see they have changed the title accordingly to reflect this change. only thing is, it doesn't really seem like an upgrade since it is missing features from the old model. it even comes with a couple cables that it can't even use, including the IR Blaster. and to add insult to injury, the software isn't all that good.
it does work so i try not to be too hard on it but the recording quality is just ok. the recorded videos are in a weird aspect ratio with a full box around the video and an hour long show usually pushes 2.5GB. i'm not sure if there is a setting i could use to fix all this but i have yet to find it if so. the size isn't a huge deal since i have a whole lot load of hard drive space (close to 3TB) but it is annoying that the quality is bad on a file so big and it may be an issue for people without as much HD space as i have.
i won't say i have buyers remorse, but i'm certainly not 100% satisfied with its performance.
Other Thoughts: the plan was to eventually move from XBMC to 7MC but i have been dragging my feet on it since i couldn't get the IR Blaster to work. XBMC is in my honest opinion a better 10 foot media player than MC, but the discovery of a couple plugins and the fact it does TV is making me make the switch. i'm sure once i have a chance to sit and get it all up and working right it will be fine, but so far, it's really hard trying to find out how to set this thing up. i'm pretty tech savvy but i can't even find a tutorial anywhere about to use DirecTv with this tuner through Media Center.
i guess i imagined a Tivo like set up where i could tell it what i like and it would do the rest, but that hasn't happened yet and i'm still missing shows cause i have to remember to set it.
so yea, this tuner is ok but i just don't feel like it was worth the money i paid for it since it even comes with less stuff than advertised (at least when i bought it).
