Hauppauge turns your PC into an HDTV with their WinTV-HVR-1800. This PCIe X1 card has three tuners: FM radio, NTSC, and ATSC/clear QAM. The NTSC tuner is a 125 channel cable ready tuner for all of your standard over the air broadcasts or regular cable TV. The ATSC/clear QAM tuner supports all 18 ATSC formats including 1080i. You can watch the programming live or record it to disk as an MPEG-2 program stream.
There is also an S-Video input with coax audio inputs so you can attach a VCR to copy your old tapes onto DVD. An S-Video to composite adapter makes it possible to use a wider range of machines with the card.
Pros: having this in one of the pci-e slots is great (haven't had a use for those 1 4 and 8x slots yet!). Vista Media Center works great with it. All the stations look great, have very fast channel changing. S-video and audio in, great for running my wii through the system (my pc serves as my tv, movie, game center through a projector), however it took a bit of searching to find the right program that would allow the s-video to just play through instead of being 5 seconds behind for live-tv pausing.. good stuff.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: I endured the 'tuner not found' message while trying to set this up in vista mce.. not the card's fault, but after 6 hours of google-ing, I finally found this.. give it a go if you get that blasted message: 1. Press Start+R buttons on keyboard. 2. Type "services.msc" without quotes in box. 3. Scroll down to Windows Media Center services (should be 4 or 5 of them). 4. Make sure they are all set on "Automatic" and enable all of them. These services have to be enabled in order for WMC to work properly.

Pros: Easy to install and setup Works great with media center in Vista
Cons: Can't get FM radio tuner to work in Vista x64 Provided WinTV software tends to go bonkers when you start scrolling through paused TV, to skip commercials and what not.
Other Thoughts: I use this card regularly to tune over the air HD television (ATSC). Picture quality is outstanding. I definitely would recommend this card to others

Pros: after almost a year since my 1st review (n/a 5/20/09 7:57 am "works fine", yeah i know i forgot to put in nickname) and upgrage to win 7 x64 i thought i would take a peek back and see whats going on. Still kicking and not having a single problem, well 1 problem but its not 1850 or Bill's fault. (see cons)
Cons: it seems the reason i can only get a 1/4 the QAM Comcast offers in my area is because the cable that runs to my house is almost 30+ yrs old. When I asked can they be replaced, I got a very strange look from the Tech they sent. Cant fault Bill or Hauppauge for that so Comcast can kiss me........ Seems since my upgrage to win7 x64 the channels changing got a lil slower, but I have to go with what i said earlier, if your not willing to wait another 1/2 sec then your standards are too high.
Other Thoughts: tried using the av slots to record gaming with wintv, but that was a serious waste of time. Just bought an HDMI capture card and solved that problem instantly. For those whom even think of trying to use Wintv, you need to stop and just use Media Center for your recording and so forth, or try another way to move those VHS tapes of Aunt Vicky and the Kids running around the park to the computer, cause wintv just is not going to cut it. I found using free apps like fraps and other screen capture utilities that use the wintv structure worked a lil better but I would try using a dedicated PVR card for that purpose as this card was built as a tv tuner being its 1st purpose. It will work using wintv but its a headache. & also dont use the disc that comes with it always download the newest drivers from the maker, you would figure ppl would know that by now!

Pros: Captures digital cable well. The picture is very good, as well as the recording.
Cons: Does NOT come with the WinTV software as advertised on the Hauppauge website. The tech rep I contacted refused to send it at first, but he relented after I asked him to speak with his supervisor. Once I received the software it still didn't work due to a .NET error. I plan on buying Windows 7 and bypassing the software entirely(currently using XP).
