1 out of 5 eggsDisgusting card

Pros: Its a TV/FM Tuner, it has a remote...

Cons: This tuner is HORRIBLE.

The cards decoder died in under 5 month's, the IR reciever died shortly after.

its Analog only, and you can tell when youre tuning.

The provided software is poorly designed.

Linux Support is barely Maintained by third-party Community.

FM Tuner is TERRIBLE, i got better Reception on a 60 year old toilet-paper roll tuner in the basement.

Other Thoughts: if i would of known the mess i was getting into, when i purchased this i would of NEVER purchased it.

The manufacturer is difficult to contact for support and forget RMA/service.

1 out of 5 eggsHas anybody made this card produce smooth video?

Pros: The card is excellent for throwing away your money.

Cons: I have not found anything as advertised about this card yet. You can look at the system requirements on the page above. I advise you disregard them. I have built not less than 30 systems in the employ of others. I have not yet purchased a product which failed to function adequately as completely as this card does. Hooking it up, I can see video through it. But in not more than 5 minutes it begins to freeze even when not recording. All of my system requirements on the machine intended for this card are more than triple the specs.

Other Thoughts: Be sure in your purchases here that you are able to test everything you buy within the first 30 days. I have the misfortune of being a few days out, or I would return the card for a cash refund. After 30 days, all I can get is replacement, and I am wondering why I would want another box of junk circuits. I have timed freezes on this card to be as long as 4-5 seconds. In every other format, the same machine plays and rips video with perfect precision.

Pros: card works as advertised, hauppauge has prompt customer support

Cons: as noted, bundled software sucks

Other Thoughts: keep in mind this card has only one tuner, so you can't watch one channel while recording another.

Pros: Easy to work with. Good quality video.

Cons: Hangs up when you try to surf the channels for some reason. You have to close the program then re-open it to get started again.

4 out of 5 eggsMake a TV out of an Old Computer

Pros: My bedroom TV finally died, so I decided to use my old Athlon 3200+ as a TV unit. So far, DirecTV to computer looks good on my LCD monitor.

Cons: Analog Tuner is a problem if you get your signal over the air with Digital TV coming. This card must have been around a while, as the latest drivers from the website are dated 2005 and the Ulead SE is V. 4 ( I have v. 11 so this isn't a problem ).

Other Thoughts: It would have been nice if they had included an S-Video cable as ther are no RCA plugs on the card (not enough room with Radio coax connection). TV coax is connected through a splitter from the DirecTV box and looks OK, but I'm told it will be a lot better thru the S-Video cable, which I just ordered (from Newegg...where else???)

5 out of 5 eggsGood card - Works on Windows as well as Linux.

Pros: == On-board MPEG2 encoding
== On-board MPEG2 decoder with Video out.
== Works on Windows and Linux. (Officially supported only on Windows. Community support on Linux)
== Remote control works on Windows and Linux and is easy to setup.
== Both the card and remote work great with SageTV (on Windows).

Cons: == WinTV software that comes with the card is a joke. You cannot setup a PC as Media Center PC with that software.

Other Thoughts: == A bit pricey

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great quality, able to record one channel whie watching another. Easy to use interface and remote. FM radio reception is crisp and clear.

Cons: No captions capable. WinTV creates a default directory of "c:\my videos" as the live stream buffer and pause TV mode buffer. Only way to fix or change the directory is a registry hack.

Other Thoughts: The customer support was excellent in telling me how to change the default buffer directory in the registry. I suggested to them that this directory should be able to get changed from within the WinTV application. If you have another TV near by on the same channel you can see the 3 second delay from the buffer. It is not a pro or con, but interesting to point out.

4 out of 5 eggsAwsome but only with 3rd-party Software

Pros: I have had this card running my Knoppmyth set-top-box for about 1.5 years. It is now a very stable card and even while recording AND playing back the processor barely takes a hit. When you're using the right software that takes advantage of ALL of the card's encoding/decoding offloading, it's a marvel. Seriously people, this thing can record at 12Mb/sec while playing back another stream simultaneously on a Pentium 3 667 Mhz machine and the load average sits below 0.5. And to top it all off, the recording quality is stellar (although SD) and the S-video output is unrivaled. Buy this card and build a Myth Box!

Cons: The included software is worse than useless. It doesn't take full advantage of the card, its buggy, and featureless. Windows Media Center XP/Vista will never-ever work with this card. Mine didn't come with an IR blaster (to change a cable box), but that wasn't a problem. Also it runs HOT... REALLY HOT! A IR heat probe registered 62C off the heat-sink, who knows what the temp is in the chip, and yet it still runs pretty stable.

Other Thoughts: I am convinced that this card was made for MythTV (Knoppmyth). If you are going to use Windows, rather find a MCE supported card, or just buy a cheaper card, and save your money. And again, it gets hot enough to burn you, so make sure your case is well ventilated.

3 out of 5 eggsLess than impressed

Pros: The packaged software is resource lite. There is a ton of 3rd party software support because it is the standard in PVR cards to have. The support was very good as well. I have been in contact with them with questions off and on for the past few months. Comes with stock remote

Cons: I could not get good video quality. I solely wanted it to capture video from the composite source. THe channel would randomly switch sources and I would get a black screen with no sound.

The GUI for the packaged software needs serious work. It's not intuitive, nor pretty, and on some level functional.

The source inputs are not very good either, for composite you have to use an S-Video to Composite adapter that hands out of the back of the card, it looks unstable.

There is a cable that has composite, S-Video, and audio ports on it however, it is an output adapter.

Other Thoughts: I'm sure this is probably a good card. It did not suit my very specific needs for a PVR. Beyond the GUI of the packaged software there are no real flaws with it.

3 out of 5 eggsGood card / No Support

Pros: Works well on XP with a higher end system you can record shows and not even notice it is running. Many options for capture and render.

Cons: Virtually no support for vista(64 anyway). I have emailed them 3 times and been all over the forums and have not found a solution to why vista will not recognize the card at all. I see many others have had the same problem but no one has had a answer from the manufacture.

Other Thoughts: Hopefully Vista support will become more of a concern for them in the future but for now XP works perfect with this card.
