5 out of 5 eggsWorks as Advertised

Pros: card has on board encoding which decreases load on cpu, excellent linux support through ivtv project and remote by the lirc project, easy to install and even easier to use

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: a single encoder is great until you want to record a show and watch a show at the same time, consider putting two of these in a machine (especially if its a home pvr) or invest in the pvr-500 which has dual tuners on board

4 out of 5 eggsVery pleased!

Pros: This is the first time Ive purchased a tv tuner card and so far I'm very pleased. I installed it to get the picture from my satellite DirectTv feed. The picture I get is excellent. Installation was a piece of cake.

Cons: I haven't been able to get the remote to change the channels through media center. It may be user error but so far it's been the only problem I've had with it.

Other Thoughts: Shipping as always with Newegg was lightning fast.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Tuner works, and it captures mpeg

Cons: The captured video from this was horrid. Could not get a clean capture from a clean source no matter what I tried. Massive combing, field errors, bit craw, and chroma bleeding. I expected much better from this card.

Other Thoughts: source was clean video.. Laserdisc..

5 out of 5 eggsWonderful product!

Pros: As a Personal Video Recorder this works great. I've had it for several years and have probably captured a 1000 hours of off-air/cable/satellite video and converted 100s of old family VCRs. I've downloaded their software updates and replacements for included third party software (nanoMpeg) several times and they've never asked for more money. What more can you ask from a product under $100. Best purchase I've ever made.

Cons: It is sensitive to high disk/cpu activity. Have had it lock up when anti-virus scans are running or when some software (McAfee) independently downloads updates. But I'm more inclined to blame these insensitive vendors for taking over my PC when I'm trying to capture the World Cup than Hauppauge who is trying to capture/save a whole bunch of data for me.

Other Thoughts: The scheduler software is a little rudimentary but it works well. The TV pause feature is great. If they could just recognize and remove the commercials it would be a perfect product :) I've definitely gotten my money's worth out of this product.

4 out of 5 eggscant get romote to control tv

Pros: Worked great in XP Media Center Edition, plugged it in and run the setup and it was going. Good picture, easy to use remote control. MCE provides the software interface, so I never installed the included disks.

Cons: Came with the Vista Remote Receiver. Had to call Hauppauge for the XP one, which they sent out right away, no questions asked. The remote won't (or I haven't figured out how) shut the tv off. It will put Media Center to "sleep", but the tv itself is still on with no picture, just fuzz.

Other Thoughts: Has anyone figured out how to get the remote to control the tv? Mine is cable ready (no set top box) and the tv IR doesn't respond to the Hauppauge remote. Any help is appreciated.

5 out of 5 eggsusing for MythTV

Pros: Worked out of box. MCE 1062 model.
Using MythTV (Mythbuntu) worked perfectly , including remote and IR Blaster for Comcast Motorola DCT5100 cable box.

Cons: none so far.

Other Thoughts: does not do HDTV but that was as advertised. Seems to be compatible with basically anything out there.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent card

Pros: Simple card to install and once you can figure everything out it works great.

Cons: All the software works in XP but not in Vista, you HAVE to use MCE in Vista. At least i did.

Other Thoughts: Havent used it to record TV but backed up all the VHS home movies from years ago, very nice to have.

4 out of 5 eggsonly for Vista

Pros: decent picture quality, works great if you have Vista

Cons: don't try it on XP, the receiver is for Vista only and MCE2005 locks up after a few seconds of liveTV play.
The logon on the box saying it's certified for XP, MCE and Vista. Apparently that's misleading. Vista only is more like it.

Other Thoughts: I spent a whole week searching for drivers, codecs, looking through forum trying to figure out why IR receiver doesn't get recognized, why MCE2005 locks up after a few seconds of liveTV play. At the end, I almost called up to return the package. But I gave Vista a shot and everything worked out smoothly. Other than installing the codec, drivers got installed automatically, I didn't need to use the CD that came with the kit.
