4 out of 5 eggsInstall driver first!

Pros: inexpensive, compact, works if you understand drivers...

Cons: now do far, USB 3.0 speeds are theoretical,, you will NEVER reach 5.0 Gb/s. 40+ Mb/s or better is more realistic. This is an IOCREST card which must be some flavor of Syba. Come on...it's an $9 card FCOL,,,

Other Thoughts: Before you install the card, run the driver install disc, then shut the PC down to install the card. It's much easier for the computer to set up the card if the driver is already on the hard drive when you power it up with the new card.

1 out of 5 eggsCheap Design & Poor Service

Pros: None

Cons: Poor Design, Cheap Construction, bad customer service from Syba.

Other Thoughts: This was a "brick" from the start, and I tried it in more than one PC. It looks like Syba/ Iocrest knows that many of these are defective, and they sent me "things to do lists" (which I had already tried), apparently hoping I'd tire of dealing with them. Then, they told me that I could send it back, but I would have to pay the shipping charges. Thank goodness for a great company like Newegg that takes care of its customers when the manufacturers won't.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We have tested serveral of our inventory and past shipments and function appropriately.

There is a 'to do' list because installation of the drivers is the most common issue that customers are missing.

Note that the card has a 3 year warranty.

We are more than happy to provide all of our customers with a prompt exchange whenever a product becomes defective.

SYBA offers an online RMA form, the user can easily fill out the form and submit it for a quick RMA return and exchange. It is SYBA's policy to answer all customer inquiries within 24 hours (M-F)

Our technical support team is available to help 9am-5pm M-F. Feel free to contact us during those business hours.

Thank you for leaving us your valuable feedback.

1 out of 5 eggsUSB 3 card, pcie

Pros: None

Cons: What I received was an IOCREST USB3 PCI-Express card. It does not work in Windows 7 64 bit, even though the packaging says it will. Windows does not recognize it, and the software provided does nothing. Don't waste your dime or time on this junk. It's going back tomorrow. Love shoprunner, No more scamming.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

This product does support Windows 7.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks very well

Pros: Works very well for what i need it for, I have not tried however the disk copy feature or adding two SATA drives at the same time. The cable that comes with isnt long so i purchased a longer cable here on NEw Egg

Cons: None yet besides the short cable.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks on XP(sp3) and Win7(64)

Pros: Was bundled free with external enclosure
Fits perfect in Antec 1200 case
Drivers worked off CD

Cons: So far I have none.

Other Thoughts: My XFX 680i mobo has no USB3.0 since it didn't exsist years ago! So now I have two 3.0 ports to use with my various 2.0 and 3.0 flashdrives and external hdd's.

I dont use nor do I care about benchmarking software for data read/write speeds. If it's faster then the 2.0 speeds I've been used to since 2.0 came out then SO WHAT!!!

My 1tb WD "my passport" works just fine with this add-in card. So does a kingston 120gb ssd that's inside the external case this card came bundled with. The PCI-e port powers whatever I've plugged into this thing. My 2tb 3.5" externals work just fine too, albiet they have their own power source.

Only issue I has was that Win7(64bit) actually took around 2 minutes to read the mini disc the drivers are on, and then another 2 minutes to install the drivers. XP loaded them up in seconds and I was testing this out on XP a minute later. I dual boot XP and Win7 off of two seperate hdd's, Win7 being on an SSD......odd that Win7 took so long to install the drivers.

Hey, it works at usb 3.0 speeds, it's beyond faster then 2.0, how can you seriously complain about this card at it's price point?

5 out of 5 eggsWorks perfectly so far

Pros: Plugged it in, rebooted and it was there (Ubuntu 12.04).

Cheap ADATA USB 3.0 drive Read ~78MBs sec, Write 35MBs.

sross@sross-desktop:~$ sudo hdparm -tT /dev/sdd
[sudo] password for sross:

/dev/sdd:
Timing cached reads: 7278 MB in 2.00 seconds = 3644.27 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 276 MB in 3.01 seconds = 91.72 MB/sec

I'll have to get a faster USB 3.0 drive to test further, pretty sure the drive is the limiting factor right now.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: Need to buy a faster drive to see how fast it truly works.

Haven't tested it on Windows yet.

5 out of 5 eggsUSB 3.0 Controller

Pros: None

Cons: No low profile bracket might be a problem for some.

Other Thoughts: Pretty straight forward card, cheap and works as it should. Worked out of the box for Windows 7 without installing drivers off of CD and same for Ubuntu 12.10. Some people complained about a lack of power for external devices but I do not see that problem, I have two portable hard drives connected to it and can get sustained 80mbps transfer speeds at the same time from each one. For $15 you can't really go wrong.

1 out of 5 eggsNot really happy with it

Pros: Price

Cons: Does not stay in superspeed, switching USB 3.0 device speed between superspeed and highspeed. Seems to be temperature related. Tried different driver, the one come with the CD, one download from the manufacture SYBA website and the latest version from the Etron website, result the same.
I am using windows XP SP3, tried with BlacX 5G docking bay, and Image 500G USB3.0 hard drive
When it works at superspeed, it is fast, but it may drop the speed to fullspeed any time, and your file copy time will increase from 10s of seconds to couple minutes, and it keeps doing that

Other Thoughts: Spend more money buy a good brand, Or you can try your luck on this one.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

There are few things you can try:

1. Instead of letting windows install the driver for you, re-install the driver manually. Use Add New Hardware function and direct Windows Installer to the folder with correct driver files on our driver Cd

2. Please install the card in a different PCI-e slot

More than likely the steps above should resolve the speed issue.

4 out of 5 eggsEHHH

Pros: Well, it works..... kinda

Cons: Installed this on a windwos x64 system without little problems. I'm use to windows booting up and installing automatically but this was not the case. After reading reviews, i knew i was to download the driver from the cd. Took a few restarts but have it working.

Not sure if this is the card but i keep my backup hard-drive plugged in all the time however its off when i dont use it. When i turn ON the HD it isnt recognized. I would have to unplug and replug in then it works.

Other Thoughts: Its a cheap card no doubt... since i use this rarely to backup its not worth spending 60$ on a card. Speeds are amazingly faster than 2.0!

1 out of 5 eggsOh Well

Pros: Easy to install

Cons: Doesn't work, not worth sending back

Other Thoughts: With out a power connection it just barely works. Loses it's connection with wd external drives

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We are sorry this card did work for you. There are some simple steps that must be taken to ensure proper installation. If you fail installing this card, you can contact us for specific installation procedures for your particular system. Please provide with us with your operating system and type of devices your are attempting to use.

Test the card with a mouse and keyboard to make sure the card is installed correctly and in working condition. If it is working perfectly with USB keyboard, and a mouse, the loss of connection with the WD external drive can be a simply power issue. Make sure the WD external drive is connected with an AC adapter for power. These days, larger capacity external drive requires external power. USB port alone is not sufficient to provide additional power.

Thank you again for purchasing our product. Our business depends on your satisfaction. Please do not hesitate to contact us at support@sybaUSA.com for our warranty service or further questions.
