Consumer Alert
This television receiver has only an analog broadcast tuner and will require a converter box after February 17, 2009, to receive over-the-air broadcasts with an antenna because of the Nation's transition to digital broadcasting. Analog-only TVs should continue to work as before with cable and satellite TV services, gaming consoles, VCRs, DVD players, and similar products. 4 out of 5 eggsmaybe this will help

Pros: This is a cheap card for those needing basic television.

Cons: This is designed for older systems but that at least have usb2 so if you have 2/1 and your using it in a usb1 slot its going to work but not so well. those complaining its not digital yes its not digital and it tells you that at top of the page.

Other Thoughts: people with older p4 chips socket 478 you would be lucky to even still boot your computer none the less run this tuner unless ur running 3.0 P4 and for older AMD make sure you have 2Ghz or better but still your not going get much performance or quality. video processing is cpu and ram and depending how many other junk programs you have running in back ground most of that is used up so go with 2gig maybe u will be happy but better to reload your computer anyways. If you want digital or highend TV then get a card matches that one thats highend but for basic tv this is a good unit.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Newegg shipped it fast as always

Cons: it says it'll tune analog tv but it won't tune to a normal channel, so you can't watch anything from your satellite receiver, you can't watch any vcr tapes on it

Other Thoughts: its really useless now that everything is broadcast in digital, I figured it'd at least be able to tune to the only stuff that still uses analog which is satellite set top boxes but it won't even do that

2 out of 5 eggsdecent

Pros: price. "worked" right out the box. (read below). didnt crash my computer

Cons: minimum system requirements are WAY OFF. i uninstalled their program, but it still wont go away from my add/remove program list. drivers aren't signed by microsoft. the metal cable adapter was freely moving around in the box, which scratched the driver cd. tv quality barely makes the cut. i would have kept it if it was a lot cheaper.

Other Thoughts: the only reason why i bought this was because i had an old computer (2.2ghz celeron, 768mb ram, 128mb vid card) that fit the system requirements and wanted to use it as a cheap tv, BUT the tv quality was so horrible, there was no way anyone would watch tv with this tuner. there was video lag and sound also skipped, tv recording had decent video (but with a weird squealing sound). i tried the tuner on my other computer and it worked better (still had decent video quality). i agree with pretty much what everyone said. the settings for the program is primitive. it sucks that i lost 10 bucks to RMA this thing. i would only recommend this if you are really desperate for a tv and have a relatively strong computer because as i mentioned earlier, it will not work properly with the specs they state (my computer specs meet or beat their recommendation).

2 out of 5 eggsoh, well

Pros: adequate picture. good screen and video captures

Cons: 1.) widescreen is just stretched 4:3/5:4 picture.
2.) audio is mono.
3.) must use multimedia app ; tv executable won't launch on its own. (multimedia interface is a large non-resizable blue window with a smaller window, top-right, for tv which leaves you with two viewing options: small window and fullscreen.)
4.) most rudimentary of "settings" options.
5.) hotkeys only work in fullscreen
6.) might not bother most but really rubs me the wrong way: some scheduler app launches automatically with multimedia app and remains in systray after exit. when you right-click systray icon to exit, scheduler tries to create run key in registry.

Other Thoughts: bought for comp specifically because of [claimed] ws capability which was a bust but, for the price, given its plug-and-play portability, probably okay for laptop [w/good antenna]. not worth rma'ing (cost or effort) - have removed files and reg entries from comp and will put in paper for what i paid (free 5-day ad). (this isn't important to anyone but me but any potential buyer will be informed of the above-written ; i don't dump my problems or pass on my mistakes to the other guy.)

3 out of 5 eggsFCC Digital Tuner Deadline

Pros: It allows you to view TV on your PC

Cons: It is an analog broadcast signal device, not digital.

Other Thoughts: The FCC relaxed its broadcast digital rollover date to February of 2009. At the moment, most major market broadcasters (in the USA) are concurrently offering DTV broadcasts and analog broadcasts. The date was relaxed because Big Box Retailers had failed to convert their product lines in time for the 2007 deadline. Too, the government had failed to devise a plan of ensuring the untold millions of legacy analog TV devices would be operable without a digital subscription service (i.e., cable/dish)following the previous 2007 deadline.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Good price and compact for travel use.

Cons: I get a loud whining noise when viewing most of the channels. No included antenna. I'm getting poor picture quality but it may be because of my antenna. Gets extremely hot after a few minutes of operation.

Other Thoughts: http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/consumerfacts/digitaltv.html

"The FCC requires that many new television receivers sold in the U.S. today include the capability to receive digital TV signals. By March 2007, all TVs (and other devices that are designed to receive broadcast television signals) are required to have digital tuners built in."

I bought this device after March 1, 2007. Wouldn't this be violating FCC regulation?

1 out of 5 eggsIt was free and worth what I paid!

Pros: Unit worked for about an hour

Cons: Unit worked for about an hour then burnt out. Glad this was a freebie! I will return for replacement to see if it happens again.

Other Thoughts: Although this was a bad product experience--NewEgg is always great on prices, service, quick ship times, etc.

3 out of 5 eggsVista Driver is available now

Pros: Cheap enough and works.

Cons: Can get hot. Not sure if having it running for a long time will burn my USB chipset.

Other Thoughts: Here is the link to the Vista drivers. I've not try it yet.
