I hear you and can tell you this...
- Pros: Everyone is right, this card is basically trash. The only pro is...in XP only...it will record fine. Not Vista though. It will work in Vista and Vista Media center, just not well.
- Cons: Where do I start?! In XP, using their software, Live TV studders horribly, but it will stop studdering if you use the time shifting. In Vista, time shifting and recording causes chunks to misalign, like part of the picture moves away from the rest for a second and it records that way. It also pops and clicks alot. Not by any means worth the money.
- Other Thoughts: ATI tuners were always pretty good but ATI never made a PCI-e TV tuner for the marketplace, at least not yet, but they did make one for Dell computers. It doesn't have dual tuners but it has s-video inputs and a composite input as well. Also has a 3D comb filter and a noise reduction filter. The picture is way better but comes with no software so you have to find media software for TV and recording. Part number FF190, sells for the same price.
Stay away
- Pros: Plenty of user options, remote is easy to use.
- Cons: Outdated software, if you can find the Kworld software download site you can download a "newer" version (the one and only update for this product), The interface is terrible, it looks very undeveloped. The list goes on and on.
- Other Thoughts: From day one this card has made the audio sound like it is "studdering/popping". It is obviously a timing issue. After trying literally everything to fix this, I contacted Kworld support, they offered a new driver which didn't work then sent me over to engineering. They never contacted me even after I pleaded with them via email 3 different times. The only reason I have kept this card is because I can record shows and those files sound fine. It is impossible to watch live TV. You probably won't have the same issue as I have, but I would stay away from any Kworld products, you can find other cards just like this from a different and BETTER company.
CAREFULL with this one
- Pros: About the best thing with this card is the tech support. They try and be very helpful. Although they don't like to admit the card has flaws. Works in XP with their software.
- Cons: Does not work as an MCE or VMC tv tuner, you have to use their software to watch tv. It uses a software encoder and puts quite a burden on your PC when watching both tuners at once.
- Other Thoughts: The Kworld website needs to be more specific when it says it has Vista support. It implies that it will work as a tuner in vista media center. It does NOT work as a tuner in VMC..even with some hacks that tech support gives, it is unusable within VMC and MCE.
