Pros: Records my old VHS tapes as in the best quality that they exist. Loaded all software without problems onto Vista 64 bit (with another similar product I had to dig through their website and find a patch) Well worth the price
Cons: When editing with the provided software package the program freezes when I preview it, but this is probably because I am trying to render 2hrs of video in high quality (>8 gigs) for instant viewing with my edits. If I don't preview it before publishing it works! Plus this editing software publishes without degrading quality like windows movie maker.
Other Thoughts: I originally went with another product that was essentially a VCR with a USB output. This VCR was junky though and ended up eating one of my tapes. With this product you can use a VCR that you know will work and I would even say if you don't have a VCR then buy one and it will probably still come out cheaper than the other tape eating setup.

Diamond VC500 Video Capture

Pros: Diamond VC500 Performs as advertised. With analog tape conversion from older cameras there isn't much you can do to enhance the quality..you get what your ancient, outdated camcorder captured. Once you get your tape converted using the VC500 you can import it through a video editor (e.g, Ulead Movie Factory 6 or higher version) and digitally enhance the video and audio a little better and also add special effects. Using a custom self built Intel DG43NB socket 775 ATX mobo PC system with integrated high def video and a Q9400 Core 2 Quad Processor + 4GB of DDR 2 memory This system configuration with the VC 500 Peforms flawless for this basic Analog tape to electronic video file conversion tasks without need for an non-integrated (PCI/PCIe) video card. VC500 uses a USB connection. Works great on Windows XP SP3 OS for PC as advertised.
Cons: Product comes with a version of Ulead software that is a little confusing to use. If you have a movie editor/burner software you are comfortable using you should not have to install the enclosed ulead software unless you want to. Your mobo needs to accommodate Direct X 9 or higher.
Other Thoughts: VC500 is Very simple to use. Be sure to burn to a Dual Layer DVD to ensure you have enough room for your movies (must have a dual layer capable DVD burner). Also make sure you have ample power supply to operate your PC and Accessories. Follow recommended system specs stated on the Diamond VC500 package. Newegg.com is a great place to buy your pc supplies. Got my VC500 within 3 business days as advertised on the newegg site.

Simple, low price, but poor software

Pros: Pretty lights, simple interface, low price.
Cons: Will only capture video through provided driver software, not through other apps like Pinnacle Studio.
I was hoping to have it record my two-hour VHS-C tapes and stop, but the software runs until manually stopped so you have to babysit the software or deal with very large files.
Software seems to periodically glitch for no obvious reason and restart the recording, losing previously captured video in that session. So far I have only managed to record one two-hour tape with no restarts in four attempts. AMD Phenom II X3 2.8 GHz, 4 GB RAM, Win7 64-bit system, so plenty of power available.
Other Thoughts: Quality of recorded video is only fair. I've had the best luck with using the "DVD" setting, which makes for about 3 Gbytes/hour. Can't tweak bitrates, etc.
Debating whether to continue suffering or go another route like a PCI interface. Too late to return.
