4 out of 5 eggsWorks as Expected

Pros: Works as expected and I expected quite a bit. Main pc set up with three tuners, second pc has one tuner. One WMC extender set up receiving channels. Video carried flawlessly over Gigabit LAN to all devices.

Cons: Seems to have dropped cable, or the ability to receive the cable signal after the media center pc was on for more than 24 hours. Have not diagnosed yet, as it has only happened once, but should be getting strong signal.

Other Thoughts: The biggest detractor to this card is out of Ceton's control. Cable companies are their own biggest enemies. Their customer service doesn't win any awards or sympathies. The included numbers from Ceton help with the pain, but only a little.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat alternative for HTPC

Pros: 4 Tuners for watching &/or recording digital TV over cable.
Can record to HTPC drives (12 TB vs. 500 GB on DVR).

Cons: PITA to set up with clueless support from cable company. Finally got to the cable card people and got things straightened out.

Other Thoughts: Persistence pays off: after clueless support finally got to the real tech experts and things went smoothly.

1 out of 5 eggsWhen it decides to work

Pros: Digital quad tuner

Cons: Will randomly turn off, leaving scheduled recordings put out. At this point a reboot hangs due to the Crash of the card

Other Thoughts: Maybe 65% uptime, huge pain when it crashes. Only reason I picked it up is local Cable went to all digital, my old Analog tuner had 100% uptime with PC running 24/7. This will crash at least 2 a week

4 out of 5 eggsSome Trouble, But Worth It!

Pros: Can tune 4 hd channels at once, integrates with media center with little effort. Get rid of those ridiculous DVR box rental fees. Verizon: $18/PER BOX vs. $4.95/PER CABLE CARD!! Price for initial setup is low, especially if you are just adding it to your existing computer.

Cons: Takes a really long time for the tuners to let's say "Warm up." After windows boots it is literally 5 minutes before the tuner card is fully functional, I get a no signal in media center, but the card diagnostics says it is fine, I leave my Media Center on 24/7 so that is more of an annoyance than a deal breaker..

When switching channels it takes between 2-12 seconds to tune depending on HD/SD and data-rate, I have Verizon and they don't alter the streams from the networks so there are wide variations depending on the channel and program.

Also, Had to get several cable cards before I was able to complete setup, even the card I have now says it hasn't been validated but since it was successfully authorized on Verizon's side it is still fully functional, once again, just more of an annoyance as the software diagnostics give you a red x instead of a green check mark, but is still fully functional.

The HDCP requirement have led to a few issues, one being you can't use dual display (Mirror Desktops) which is a shame if you like to have the same image on 2 TV's, it will only work with 2 monitors if you extend display and have two separate desktops.

Other Thoughts: Technical support is amazingly fast, I received answers almost immediately and if you are having issues I suggest going to them first as the cable company will make you get proof it's actually a bad cable card, or an issue on their end anyway. And with a quick diagnostic snapshot button in their software it couldn't be simpler. Verizon on the other hand took 3 cable cards, like 8 support agents, and 5+ hours of me telling them to send a new card.

Also, activate the card through the phone system, the online activation system caused problems every time!

5 out of 5 eggsI like it alot

Pros: Works far better than the Hauppauge card it replaced. Easy installation, bug free drivers, excellent video quality, and quick tuning. I’m currently using it with WMC but may switch to XBMC.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I read about the fragile coax connector before I purchased it. I used a 1.5” hole saw on the back of my entertainment center so that there was zero strain on the coax connector. Works like a champ.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: This unit is Awesome. My cable company says they cannot support it, but it seems they would have to because I have their service. This unit is off the chain, had some trouble in the beginning, but now works even better than a cable box! I truly like this unit, and hope that Ceton works on getting this unit even better! It would be hard to improve on what has already be done here!!!

Cons: There is one gripe but not really on the part of Ceton but more so of my cable company. I sat in front of my server for more than 4 hours setting this up with them, I want to stress this IS NOT CETON'S FAULT, but rather the person who set it up in the beginning messed up the activation of the cable card resulting in 3 more hours of banging my head against the wall, but not Ceton's fault!

Other Thoughts: I wish that the cable companies knew more about their own cable cards that go in their cable boxes. I have a Class M cable card, with which no one seem to know what I was talking about with the cable company. They asked me if I was using a Tivo, and I said know 3 times. Only thought I have is ask the cable company rep if they have ever done this before.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat option for HTPC

Pros: 1.) Works great with windows media center
2.) Helpful software for setting up the cable card
3.) I hear it's compatible with linux, but I couldn't get it to work
4.) High signal quality for splitting into 4 tuners
5.) 4 tuners in one card is excellent!

Cons: I struggled setting it up in Linux. I didn't try as hard as I could to make it work, though. Adding a cable card into the mix makes it a bit more difficult than the OTA/analogue tuners I had experience with in Linux.

Windows media center would also sometimes give me the message that a particular show had suddenly been flagged the wrong way and I couldn't record it anymore. I feel like thats more a windows problem than a problem with this card. It could also be a cable company problem (Comcast)

Other Thoughts: This tuner is excellent! I used to have signal problems with my old analogue tuners. I would fight with the splitters in my house to try and get the strongest signal possible. This tuner, however, doesn't need that. Signal quality is great and it tunes quickly.
Setting up windows media center is slightly annoying. Specifically, getting your computer "ready for digital cable" is not intuitive. Luckily, the bundled software with this tuner helps you diagnose cable card problems very quickly.

1 out of 5 eggsBEWARE!

Pros: None

Cons: After installing the tuner's supporting software in Windows 8.1 and attempting to reboot, my motherboard would not boot!! I am replacing the motherboard in the hope of restoring my system.

2 out of 5 eggsFor any any Problems Look at this first

Pros: First of all i read a lot of reviews. install was a cake walk, they give you the direct number to your cable company. set up was fairly easy. Quick in changing channels, Great HD channels recording is awesome.

Cons: I became an expert in trying to trouble shoot this device signal would drop out. cause wmc to freeze if signal is lost.

THE CABLE ADAPTER IS A HORRIBLE DESIGN, JUST HORRIBLE, CETON I MEAN HORRIBLE. it cant have any tension on it what so ever move it just the slightest bit and you'll lose signal on high channels, the part that connects to the card is very weak and over a couple week period it loosens in the card wheak cause loss of signal.

Other Thoughts: paying $180 is worth wild i thing but for Ceton to just plop that adapter how it is set up is just ludicrous. i could almost understand if it was for a mobile device for easy of use but not for a desktop need to redesign it to except a cox cable strong and secure there is multiple solutions for it if they are will to fix the problem.

i would have gave this item 5 eggs if it wasn't for that adapter.

For others that might have trouble most of them will be caused by that adapter. i had TWC out and help diag the problem. before you ask for help see if this fixes the problem.

1. open Ceton Diagnostics Tools
2 click on Devices Tab
3. click on Go to infiniTV device webpage
4. click on the respective tuner one- through four find the channel that WMC is trying to recieve.
5. look at signal level should be higher than -8dBmv any lower the channel will pixel-ate or not come in
6 locate the cable adapter and make sure that it is snug by push in ( hold it steady *****be careful this is very sensitive to any movement what so ever**** wile you refresh/ reload the ceton infiniTV webpage ) go back the the same tuner and see if signal has improved ( can also be checked by refreshing the channel on WMC.

that fixed:
SDV error 1,
weak signal,
no signal,
unavailable channel

Manufacturer Response:

We appreciate your review and are sorry you don’t like the design of the coax adapter cable. The cable is required in order to offer this card in a PCI Express low-profile form factor, which is a big requirement for many customers. As you’ll notice on the back of the InfiniTV card, it would be physically impossible to plug in a full-sized coax adapter. Most coax cables are also heavy and inflexible, which could cause damage to the InfiniTV device. As a result we custom designed a coax adapter cable to meet these requirements. Under normal installation and use, you should not experience sensitivity like you describe. Please contact Ceton Customer Support at the link below and they can help troubleshoot things for you.

5 out of 5 eggsDoes what it should

Pros: I got this card for a tv server backend on my HTPC network and it does what it says; gives me TV on my HTPC.

Since I used Windows 8.1 and Mediaportal the card didn't work out of the box but both ceton and mediaportal worked together and gave me a resolution within a day of reporting it; awesome customer service!

Cons: None yet

Other Thoughts: My signal is a little low so I can't fully enjoy this card as of yet, but hopefully I can resolve that and confirm its not the card.
