5 out of 5 eggsDouble-check!

Pros: Ability to plug in HDD LED is a nice feature. Easy to plug in and driver install is a breeze (once you have everything right). Comes with drivers for pretty much any OS.

Cons: Comes with one PATA cable, but has two ports? That doesn't make sense. Lucky for me I had plenty of cables on hand.

Other Thoughts: DOUBLE-CHECK THE JUMPERS ON YOUR DRIVES! I had a problem where Windows would take a very long time to boot up and then when trying to load the drivers, it would never finish installing. Also, Windows refused to boot into Safe Mode.

Going back in and checking the cables/jumpers, I noticed I had two drives on one cable that were both set to Slave. Fixed those and it worked like a charm!

5 out of 5 eggsjas

Pros: I have had one of these for over 6 years and it works great. I have used it with win98, xp home 32bit, xp pro 32bit and vista ultimate 64bit. Once I got the right drivers loaded I haven't had a problem. The drivers and still fairly easy to find on the Promise site. The card will last longer that the cables.

Cons: replacement cables seem to be hard to find.

5 out of 5 eggsFor non-booting HDDs, it's perfect

Pros: Installed easy for me. Has worked flawlessly for over two months.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I installed the card on a box with an MSI K8N Neo4 MB. I only have two HDDs connected, one to each bus, and neither drive is bootable (by choice). The card adds a few seconds to the boot, but that's to be expected. Shipping was fast as usual.

5 out of 5 eggsOne thinig

Pros: Price, Quality, ease of use.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: ONE THING with this ATA133 Adapter Card. I had to put all of my hard drives on Cable Select (CS) before they would all work correctly. After that, everything has worked 100% flawlessly! Best deal from Newegg.

3 out of 5 eggsCan't find the hard drive

Pros: It gave me another IDE port to work with.

Cons: It does not recognize extra hard drives. I have used the same card in two different systems and it would not recognize a hard drive in either system. It does recognize the CD/DVD drive so I plugged the hard drive directly into the MB and the CD/DVD drive into the controller. Very awkward in my case because of the way the hard drives and CD/DVD drives are configured but it works.

Other Thoughts: I updated the drivers and the bios from the website and everything works fine. I just wish it would recognize hard drives. I can't believe it still cost the same as when I bought it eight years ago.

5 out of 5 eggsJAS

Pros: I have had this card for six years. I have gone through seven rebuilds and five OS's, and it still works great for me. You need to setup the drivers when you do a new operating system install. I can still find drivers on promise's support site. I am running it on a Vista Ultimate 64.

Cons: You have to use the pormise ide cables furnished inorder to connect 4 hard drives. If you use a non-promise cables you can only run one hd on each one.

2 out of 5 eggsLow end card

Pros: Well, it's cheap.

Cons: This card requires 80 wire/40 pin cables. When I tried to use a 40 wire cable this card kept reporting multiple disk errors.

Other Thoughts: Save a few more dollars up and buy a card that supports RAID.
