CD/DVD Burning not possible

Pros: Installs easy enough, firmware already at latest. Latest Driver easy to find on promise's website. Was harder figuring out how dell wanted me to dismantle their box to put it in(not hard at all).

Cons: CD/DVD burning a no go. Hard Drives only people. Seriously. Maybe they'll release a new ATAPI friendly firmware, but I can't wait two years, as I have one of the first non-IDE mobos, and demand isn't there right now.

Other Thoughts: Brand new Dell Precision T3400 has no IDE. Wanted to connect up my two good old Plextor 716As. Nero crashes on burn. I read later in some CD/DVD forums that say that this is a card/chipset that does not like optical drives. Just bought a pair of SATA Samsung burners to replace my plex's and RMA'd this card.

Slick Upgrade for older Dell

Pros: Device was installed in August 2003 on an older computer, controlling 60GB bufered disk at first plus 250GB buffered disk later. Device has operated flawlessly during interim, running full time and heavily used on a daily basis. No problems with dissimilar size and buffer sizes of disks.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Cost-effective and trouble-free way to extract maximum value from older computer. Manufacturer provides good downloadable manuals and driver upgrades.

Pros: Easy install, has been working in my Quicksilver G4 for well over a year now, no problems at all, even through several teardowns and rebuilds.

Cons: Does not support raid arrays.

Other Thoughts: Bought this card as a replacement for another card that did not work in my mac. Went into a Quicksilver G4-based media center connected to a 72" HDTV. Currently has 4x250gb IDE drives connected to it, no raid, along with 3 other IDE drives, totaling 2.25TB.

Gets the job done

Pros: Does what it is supposed to do, and does it very well.

Wish I could say the same about all the computer parts I buy.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I received one of these as part of a package with a Maxtor disk that I purchased years ago. It has been running in one computer or another ever since then. I have used it in both Linux and Windows systems without issue. Finally had to break down and buy another one.

ok for a iomega zip drive

Pros: i bought this card in mid 2006 and since then it has given me the room for my iomega zip 250, works great for that.

Cons: only need one of the two ide slots on the card.
