4 out of 5 eggsUpdate to previous review

Pros: connectivity

Cons: sort of sw raid.

Other Thoughts: I have since installed HighPoint's Linux raid driver sw on Fedora 6 (2.6.22 kernel), and contrary to the web postings, I find the HPT RAID just as fast as as the native linus software raid. Hightpoint has precompiled drivers for the standard RedHat, etc distros, but found compiling and installing their source for more adavanced distros like Fedora no problem. I have had no corruption running with 6 SATA 250GB Seagate disks in RAID 0 with Oracle 10gR2 across a 1.2TB database. (Running for over 6 months now.)

4 out of 5 eggsGood Connectivity, but SW RAID

Pros: Inexpensive price for a 16 port SATA controller. This was important to me since I had only one open PCI-X slot open.

Cons: This is a software raid controller, even for Linux. The BIOS allows you to set up a RAID configuration, but the documentation states that configuration will not be available until you install the RAID software. Many postings on the net state that the Linux native MD software raid is much faster than the software raid in the HighPoint software. i am gong with the Linux MD raid approach.

Other Thoughts: I bought this thinking HighPoint finally built a hardware raid controller, but I should have know that the price being significantly lower than other 16 port devices would be software raid. I am disappointed with the SW raid, but it does give me the connectivity I wanted and less costly than 2 good 8 port cards (if I would have had the room.)
