5 out of 5 eggsReliable long lasting card

Pros: Long lasting, still working after 4 years of running along with four hard drives, very pleased
Gave SSD level speed but a fraction of cost four years ago, much much larger capacity.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Note: this is a Software RAID card, not supported by VMware vSphere ESXi

5 out of 5 eggsGood reliable card

Pros: Easy to install and configure (coming from an ex-pro). Rock solid.

Cons: none that I can think of.

Other Thoughts: I have used this unit on windows XP, windows 7 (64bit) and Windows Server 2008 r2 systems using 3 WD 2tb green drives on RAID 5 with no issue. One harddrive failed and the system emailed me the event, and when the new HDD arrived (under warranty) it rebuilt the array quickly with no issues. Download the latest software and firmware from the Highpoint website, it does improve the system. I can't say I have done any speed tests with this unit. I was more concerned with setup, reliability, and compatibility. After over a year of use and three different systems, I can say it has excelled on all those points.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks Well

Pros: Installed easily, recognized by Vista, drivers OK, sees non-RAID drives no prob as Legacy (as pass-through). Single slot. On Sale for 1/2 price from the Egg. GUI is OK. My X48 Platinum ICH9R is booting (2) Vertex 2 in RAID 0, with RAID 0 on 2 Seagates on card. Card uses 10% of my Quad core @ 200 MB/s. All is well.

Cons: Had to shim Mainboard to fit card in slot properly. Can't be sure it's the card even though 2 hd 4870's, fan controller, and previous PCI card all fit perfectly...Combo power/data cables pretty cheesy, one-piece- Long, though.....Manual is in ridiculously Bad English. Why the ^%*&$#@ don't these companies hire someone to write them correctly and coherently in English?

Other Thoughts: Sure wish manufacturers were on the same page so that I could just swap drives without building new array. PCI card I replaced recognized Intel RAID Array. No biggie but time-consuming.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate firmware and all's good

Pros: Included cables.
Very fast.

Cons: Took a long time to figure everything out.

Other Thoughts: Plugged 4 2 TB (WD20EARS) to run in RAID 5.
6TB of usable space, holds all my media, with room to spare.
Runs faster than my SSD does.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Overal good performer. It seems to not being limited by the pci-e interface (4 lanes, easly over 300MB/s). 2xsamsung , 2xbarracuda sata drives recognized properly and work with hybrid: raid-0, raid-5 configuration on the same set of devices without major issues. Bios upgradable through WebInterface.

Cons: Support is a joke. Well... you get what you paid for. I have two problems with this card. First and foremost: I cannot schedule Verity Task for RAID-5 volume. I'm able to define one but it always ends with: "Failed to start scheduled task" log entry. I can trigger Verify through WebInterface as well as add SHI check Task and both work as they should. If someone have a solution please share it with me!! The second problem is poor documentation. Don't know how to connect activity and failure LEDs to the card. Limiting resistors required or not, what voltage etc?. As you can see not big issues but kind of irritating.

5 out of 5 eggsClosest to a hardware raid most ppl get

Pros: Simple Install - Plugged in the card booted up Win 7 x64 and then right-clicked device in device manager and had it auto install drivers. Worked like a charm. Raid1 w/ 2x 2tb drives and no issues... yet. I've seen the complaints and they are noted. However, I back up my data and if the raid card bites the dust well, that's what happens I guess.

Cons: Power adapters that came with it weren't exactly sata powered - I ran out of the old power adapters in the computer.

Other Thoughts: Seriously considered spending a bunch more for a raid6 system full tower, but who wants to drop 2k or more on a thing to store a bunch of music and movies? Meh, I'll pass.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Enuf for the Money!

Pros: I bought this to try in my Xeon Hackintosh and could not be happier! My original built-in RAID controller was not usable on the OSX side and this bargain works 100%! Performance is what I expected for this level of card. Burst rates are now 100 mb/s faster than my on-board RAID controller.

Cons: The OSX drivers are not in the exact folder I expected on the CD, but a minute of poking around in another 26xx folder had what I was after. The Highpoint website does not have newer drivers for OSX...

Mac users must be a (teeny) tiny fraction of hardware users.

Other Thoughts: I read lot of moaning about the manual before buying this card and I have to disagree. It's quite clear and adequately detailed. Making a floppy to flash the card with the latest BIOS was more work than setting up the RAID or getting OSX or Win7 to play nice together.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Controller and Great Value

Pros: Pros: Blazingly fast performance for RAID with SSD's and SAS hard drives. This small form factor controller runs cool. Kit comes with all the cables etc.

Works with my SSD and SAS hard drives. Their windows Web GUI is also decent. This controller has it all, RAID and JBOD support. I have my SAS drives in a RAID 0 for the OS, my SSD drives in a RAID 0 as my scratch disk for my photoshop software and a large capacity SATA drive for my data. It was easy to install setup and configure.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Other Thoughts: What I also like about the controller is that is supports that current generation of SATA hard drives. I can mix and match hard drives on the same controller. I separate my boot drive from my OS drive. Boot up is really fast compared to my onboard SATA controller. I also notice that my applications and games are running faster. For those looking to upgrade to faster technology that is flexible, this is controller for you.
