5 out of 5 eggsMy GOTO for USB 3.0 HBA for VMWare ESXi host

Pros: I have this card supporting External USB 3.0 Hard Drives for VEEAM B&R on the ESXi hosts local datastores. The ESXi 5.5 hosts are DELL PE T620 / T630. there are a mix of PassThru and native ESXi xHCI driver beginnig w/ patch "ESXi550-201505002".

Cons: I cannot think of any at this time...

4 out of 5 eggsNO drivers for 2008 non R2

Pros: It seems to be very solid with great reviews all aroun the internet.. based on which I purchased...
Newegg had the best price at the time ..69$

Cons: Well on several places it was mention it supports Windows 2008, (including manufacturer's website) . And in the Q&A section it was asked if it supports 2008 Standart server - which I have ... and NO it doesn't work, it works with a speed of regular USB 2.0

Other Thoughts: I am talking to the support right now and I will update if we figure out a way to make it work..

5 out of 5 eggsUSB 3.0 FOR MY DX79SR

Pros: Easy Installation. Appears to be a quality card. Up and running with the correct USB 3.0 operation in no time. I installed the drivers that came on the CD. Later I went to the HighPoint website and found new drivers that installed without a hitch. Finally, Windows boots up in about 15 seconds with my two Dell S2340T USB 3.0 monitors attached.

Cons: I wish that I would have purchased this card first. I installed the Vantec Quad Chip card before this one. What a relief that this one works so well.

Other Thoughts: Not quite a con but it is worth mentioning. When you check in the device manager after driver installation you will notice an unknown device (Windows 7 64 bit for me). Upon searching online I found an article that mentioned this problem. It is for the PCIe bridge that is built into this card. I registered the card and searched the FAQ for this issue. You will have to download and install the following driver from HighPoint to resolve this issue: PLE8609_Win_6.5.0.0. Then install the appropriate driver for your OS through the Device Manager. Author of article warns not to download it from a 3rd party source due to a known virus.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks well in most systems

Pros: - Very fast and lots of ports.
- Works great in Dell and IBM servers
- Does not require a power connector (which can be hard to find in a server).
- No drivers needed for Server 1012 R2.

Cons: - Does not work properly in several HP servers, e.g. DL160G6. Often disappears from system until reboot
- Does not detect many non-storage devices.

Other Thoughts: Would recommend for anyone wanting to add additional USB storage to a non-HP server.

5 out of 5 eggsPLX 8609 driver requirement

Pros: This is a follow-up for a review I made earlier.

Cons: if the driver is not signed, it might not installed.

4 out of 5 eggsSolid Full Bandwidth 4 Port USB 3.0

Pros: Uses a PCIe splitter to connect to 4 separate USB 3.0 chipsets each with 1 port. Enables full speed 5Gbps bandwidth on each port simultaneously.
Uses ASpeed controllers which have exceptional compatibility with various USB 3.0 devices.

Cons: Uses PLX PCIe Splitter (PEX 8609) which appears in device manager as Base System Device and does not have available drivers. Does not impair functionality, but appears sloppy to have uninstalled devices in device manager.

Splitter can in unusual circumstances conflict with motherboards. Conflicts with early BIOS ASUS Z9PE-D16 boards. ASUS resolved with BIOS update.

Other Thoughts: Full height card.
