5 out of 5 eggsEvil Company

Pros: Completes my raid card

Cons: Evil 3ware won't embed or bundle this with a card. It's a $5 battery for $100. I don;t have the time to solder stuff so just might as well cough it up.

Other Thoughts: meh

5 out of 5 eggsnice to finally have full functionality/speed of my 9550SXU

Pros: finally bought this BBU a few months back to get my old 3ware RAID controller up to full speed...VERY easy install for thsi card: power down and then plug it in...

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggsneeded it

Pros: quite versatile as to position in case, installation "idiot-proof"
improved write speed tremendously (made the RAID, so to speak)
it comes separate and so doesn't have to be included in the price of
the RAID board

Cons: a bit delicate (especially the connector cable socket), make sure to route the cable so it has slack and isn't taught against the edge of an internal card

Other Thoughts: people susceptible to build-up of static electricity should avoid building computers; wear a wrist strap or make sure to ground oneself to the case whenever handling parts; don't touch the shiny metal, etc.

5 out of 5 eggsPractically Impossible to Install Wrong

Pros: Excellent product even if overpriced. I have built hundreds of servers using 3Ware RAID cards with BBU attachments and you would have to be an idiot to install one wrong and burn up a card. In fact I don't know how you could do it. It is impossible to plug the BBU cable in wrong because it is keyed and that is the only attachment to the RAID card.

Cons: No cons

Other Thoughts: Buy it, install it, forget it

4 out of 5 eggsWorks fine, easy install

Pros: Works just fine - card can take another battery if you have more than one controller (so get one bbu-04 like this and add a bbu-03 to hang on the same card).

Cons: over-priced - therefore not full score.

Other Thoughts: The guy that rated it very low must have done something weird, I dont see how you could burn a card with this...
In my opinion 3ware needs to implement the bbu card onto their controllers, include the battery in any kit buy, and only sell the battery as an addon without the card. (who gets a raid controller without a bbu? its like saying I dont want full redundancy and speed is not important).

1 out of 5 eggsBad literature = Burn out your own card.

Pros: The obvious benefits of having this BBU.

Cons: If your buying this for model 9690SA THE MANUAL DOES NOT COVER ALL STEPS.

Refer to your card's manual for ACTUAL steps. If your unlucky like me and follow the BBU installation guide then you will BURN out the actual card.

Other Thoughts: I own hundreds of servers. This is one of the biggest Bee eS I have ever ran into. Now I have downtime on a server with customer data.

When your selling a $5 battery for $120 YOU BETTER MAKE SURE IT HAS PROPER INSTRUCTIONS AND DOESN'T BURN OUT THE $1000 CONTROLLER CARD YOU SOLD AS A MATCH. #@$@!

5 out of 5 eggsEasy install, works fine

Pros: Protects your valuable array when write-caching is enabled... very easy to install, does require powerdown of server to install daughter board on the controller. not a pro or con, just FYI.

Cons: None I can think of, should be a standard option with the 9690sa controller...

Other Thoughts: none, it is what it is, what it is... :)

5 out of 5 eggskit optional for 9650SE

Pros: kit optional for 9650SE but useful if you have a different controller or multiple controllers

Cons: doesn't sit completely horizontal

Other Thoughts: align for air flow to eliminate heat issue... the controllers are hot and proper airflow is important

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Enables write cache

Cons: Price

Other Thoughts: Got this a few days ago. When I installed it, instead of saying "Charging" in 3DM2 (3ware's RAID card monitoring software) told me the battery's voltage was low. Strange for a new battery. I initiated the capacity test, and magically it told me the voltage was "OK", so I left it for a few hours. When I came back, I had several "Battery charging fault" errors. I figured I'd revisit it the next day and maybe it would charge and work. Next day, no change. Still said the voltage was low. Ran another capacity test, and about 10 minutes later, the status changed to "Battery failed". I currently have a ticket in with 3ware (Which seems to be taking a while), and I may end up RMAing the whole thing just for a new battery.

1 out of 5 eggsdoesn't work

Pros: none

Cons: I have been trying to get the BBU working forever. 3ware support is terrible, documentation on their equipment is the most confusing jumbled mess I have ever seen.
Would not recommend this product or any 3ware product.
