The economical Intel RAID Controller SASWT4I offers exceptional entry-level hardware SAS/SATA RAID and non-RAID data off-load for server systems and workstations. This RAID controller allows for point-to-point connections with a SAS universal interconnect interface. This allows for 1.5 and 3 Gb/s SATA hard disk drives, along with logical SCSI compatibility for the extra reliability and manageability that SAS drives provide.

  • newegg Cost-effective Data Protection This adapter provides a low-cost RAID 0, 1, and 1E/10E solution for entry-level server and workstation environments where high-performance and reliable data protection are required.
  • newegg SAS or SATA Storage Connect SAS or SATA devices within the array. Use SAS drives for speed, reliability and scalability and use high-capacity SATA drives for budget-friendly storage.
  • newegg Flexibility Supports up to 122 physical devices in SAS mode. This is ideal for employing JBODs (Just a Bunch Of Disks) or up to 14 devices in RAID 0, 1, 1E/10E mode through direct connect device attachment or through expander backplane support.
  • newegg Ultra-thin Driver LSI Fusion-MPT architecture provides over 140,000 I/Os per second while communicating over the PCI Express 4-lane Host Bus.
  • newegg Hot Spare Includes global hot spare support that automatically comes online to replace the first drive to fail on any array or disk group on the controller.

3 out of 5 eggsGood

Pros: Price, 4 SATA, does not need SAS to SATA cable, real hardware raid, works with ESXi 5.5 without problem, do not need drivers, when creating raid 1 it support data migration from one of the 2 drives

Cons: Does not support disks bigger then 2TB (all disks bigger then 2TB are seen as 2TB disks), pretty slow, SATA 3Gb/s,

Other Thoughts: If I had to buy another one I would probably pay a little more for SATA 6Gb/s and 2TB+ disk support

1 out of 5 eggsComplete Garbage

Pros: None. Nothing was good about this card.

Cons: There was no way to enter the BOIS configuration utility. Pressing Ctrl+M or whatever did nothing. With a HDD attached, Windows would lock up and not boot. I was amazed at how miserably this card failed at everything I tried to do with it.

Other Thoughts: Thankfully, this item is no longer available for purchase. :)

5 out of 5 eggsWorking Great

Pros: The config software is super easy, and it does what it's supposed to.

Cons: Is not supported in ESXI 5.0 in my recent experience, although someone else in these reviews is saying it is.

5 out of 5 eggsGood value for true hardware RAID

Pros: I had bought a dell poweredge II server with a PERC S300 controller not realizing that linux distros wouldn't recognize it's software based fake raid. I didn't need the SAS capability because I was only using SATA drives in my array. The SATA+SAS seems to drive the prices way up. This was a good value, installed easily, and was detected by the Ubuntu installer unlike the PERC S300.

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggsOther Review

Pros: I don't know about this card, but I know that all my severs that have Intel Base RAID Controllers are awsome, the user interface is very slick, it has an icon on my start menu that lets me know the status of me RAID's.

I had a drive fail and it was flashing and popping up boxes telling me about the failed drive, otherwise I wouldn't have known.

I have a 3TB RAID5 on 64K stripes. If you want a partition to be bigger then 2TB you need to change the Disk type from basic Disk to a MBR Disk to take advantage of larger partition sizes. One server has a 9.5 TB partition with 64K stripes without any trouble. So don't listen to the other guy.

Cons: non

Other Thoughts: You get what you pay for. I have a Highpoint Raid controller that doesn't do me any good. I'm going to buy this card because all my built in Intel controllers are awsome! I hope the same with this card.

3 out of 5 eggs2TB Limit for NTFS

Pros: Intel makes great RAID products

Cons: Limited to 64KB stripe size. This prevents NTFS from allocating more than 2TB of drive space.

Other Thoughts: If you plan to use more than 2TB, get a RAID card with 128KB+ stripe size for RAID0.
