The 3ware SAS 9750-16i4e controller card provides a new level of system reliability, availability, and performance for businesses that are facing storage challenges driven by unprecedented data growth. Offering data transfer rates of up to 6Gb/s per port, this controller card ensures complete investment protection for existing SATA and SAS implementations. 6Gb/s SAS is designed for backward compatibility with 3Gb/s SAS as well as with 3Gb/s SATA hard drives. In addition to the internal ports, this controller comes equipped with external SAS ports which perfectly support external JBOD expansion, allowing you to connect multiple JBODs to server for a scalable and affordable solution to the growing storage requirements. Regardless of the drive speed, 6Gb/s 3ware SAS 9750-16i4e can deliver up to twice the performance level in both read and write applications as compared to their 3Gb/s predecessors.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Card

Pros: I have owned this card for over 2 years now and thought I would review it. The card boots fast and is easy to configure using the 3Dm2 Management Software. I have had 0 dropped arrays on a server that operates 24/7

Cons: None at this time

Other Thoughts: I use this on a media server running Win 7 x64

1 out of 5 eggsAn abomination

Pros: It didn't catch fire.

Cons: I am aghast at this controller. I can only assume I had a faulty unit. It seemed to work fine for a while but then we had inexplicable slow-downs in RAID5 performance. I'm talking 3-5 MB/s. Then it started failing drives. I upgraded the firmware on it and looked at all the alarms it had to offer and there was nothing new. I ended up losing a RAID5 volume as it failed a drive when the LUN was already down a drive.

I eventually gave up and replaced it with a 9280 which appears to be an *identical* card - down to tiniest resistor. The new card identified the failed drive just fine and its working flawlessly.

My hardware vendor said something to the effect that LSI bought 3ware and the integration didn't go well or some such.

Anywayas, the 9280 is working fine and I will never touch this card again. Also - pretty bad VMWare support on the 9750.
