5 out of 5 eggsWorks in RAID 1

Pros: Was able to RAID together 2 Seagate 500gig drives for media storage. Mobo didn't have enough sata ports, let alone RAID options

Cons: Wouldve been nice to have more ports, but I wouldnt have used them in this instance anyhow.

Other Thoughts: Inexpensive RAID solution that has worked perfectly fine.
Included drivers seem to work fine, so I haven't even bothered looking for updated ones.

1 out of 5 eggsFrustrating Failure

Pros: After installing current drivers from the JMicron web site, the SATA Raid Controller function appears to work. The PCIe 1X slot usage is really handy for many recent motherboards, as they tend to have limited PCI slot availability.

Cons: The IDE function is hosted by the RAID controller. It will not function as a separate IDE host controller. This controller card does not provide a second IDE controller and channel for use with ATAPI devices like DVD drives.

Other Thoughts: If your mission is to add an EIDE hard disk, or to integrate EIDE and SATA drives into a JBOD using a PCIe 1x slot, this may work. If you want to add a third ATAPI device and have no available ports, Rosewill makes a slick card that fits on the back of the ATAPI IDE drive and plugs into a SATA port (Rosewill RC-204 IDE to SATA Mini Vertical Bridge (for IDE device) - Retail), also available from Newegg. My application was to add an old Zip 100 drive to a newer EVGA motherboard XP x64 system. This SYBA card could not be made to work, even with support from SYBA, which is via e-mail only. The Rosewill adapter card worked super for the application.

3 out of 5 eggsMystery card, not on Syba web site!

Pros: It does work fairly well, no major bugs though it could use a firmware/bios update.

Cons: This card is a mystery, it is not to be found anywhere on the Syba web site, so there are no updates or documentation available.

Other Thoughts: I would recommend another product that is properly supported and easily identifiable with the manufacturer.

Generic OEM packaging that does not carry the Syba name.

Manufacturer Response:

4 out of 5 eggsHost Controller

Pros: Cheep Price for what you get out of it, does what you need it to do

Cons: Outdated drivers, small performance hit during boot up

Other Thoughts: The drivers from the Syba are junk! This card is based on a Micron chipset Download the Mircon drivers and it works like a charm! Make sure you install the card and drivers BEFORE you hook up a hard drive to it or your drive will not show up on your system. Great if you have a motherboard with only one IDE connector bonus two more SATA connectors

2 out of 5 eggsGreat Design, Poor Implementation

Pros: AHCI Compliant, PCI-E, Support Responds and actually seems to read and comprehend what you say.

Cons: Would not work in any of the 3 systems I tried. Does not use a jmicron approved flash chip so cannot flash the bios on this card with the manufacturer's flash util. Syba Support was willing to RMA it, but for the cost of the card, and my lost time for it to not work, I opted to not pay to ship it back and order a different card.

Other Thoughts: AHCI is a big deal if you want to use a device in a non windows environment. AHCI Compliant SATA devices can be used for pretty much anything (Port Multiplication, Hot Plug, etc). 2nd in line is Silicon Image SATA, which is very open about their specs, but not AHCI (Maybe in their next generation...) I'm going to order a SIL based device rather than dealing with the RMA hoops.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

This card is using the JMicron chipset and you can flash the BIOS (only when you need it). All of our products come with at least 3 years warranty. Please don't hesitate to contact us at support-us@syba.com if you need a replacement or have any question.

Regards,
Syba Customer Service

2 out of 5 eggsdont know

Pros: price

Cons: would be nice if it ever got delivered before the 30 day rma dissapears. waiting 2 weeks for delivery now. 10 days to get from california to washington. 5 days at border. now sitting at ups warehouse for how long?

Other Thoughts: newegg has good prices , but this may sway me back to TD if shipping takes twice as long as TD which ships from east coast. waiting for it to die of old age ??? it has to pass customs no matter which way it goes

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

Since you did not mention your problem, please contact us at support-us@syba.com if you have any problem or question. All our products come with 3 years warranty, please do not hesitate to contact us.

4 out of 5 eggsHost Controller

Pros: Works great.

Cons: Needs to come with a floppy or something to install the Raid drivers on a new machine. It only comes with a CD. WinXP setup does not allow you to select a CD drive to install the drivers.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: Easy to install, great way to add an IDE controller to a new system that has few if any IDE controllers. Fast transfer rates that are no slower then an on board IDE controller. SATA gives the flexibility for newer and faster drives when its time to upgrade. And let's not forget, its cheap.

Cons: Drivers included are very out of date. Got write delay errors in XP using drivers included. Updated drivers available at manufacturer's website fix all problems. But that's the way it should work. That what driver updates are for, fixing problems.

Other Thoughts: Newegg seems to have fixed their shipping issue. I received exactly what is described here. The retail box it was sent in was for the one with an external eSATA port but the hardware inside matched my order.

I used this to add more drives to my DVR setup and it works great. No problem at all recording 3 HD shows at the same time to an IDE drive attached.

All things said, this was a great purchase.

5 out of 5 eggsBecoming a Syba fanboy!

Pros: Not sure how Syba does it. I have bought controller cards in the past for five times as much; and had nothing but headache from them. Not the case with this one just does what it suppose to.

Cons: Think a lot of bad reviews on this card is driver issue. Hope one of there representatives read this post because the driver that came with this card is just way out of date! This is just plan laziness, hay if you can update your advertisement to say it support newer OS like vista. You can include a updated driver disk!

Other Thoughts: Why I gave it five star after it crash my system repeatedly, after using those out of date drivers. I went to there web site and got the newer driver set and it work with out a problem on vista 32. Point being you shouldn’t have to do this! For price and quality I still have to give it five stars.
