5 out of 5 eggsRAID Card?

Pros: Only reason I am giving this 5 eggs is so it gets noticed hopefully. I don't know why there are so many people with this card stating it is a RAID card when SYBA themselves in multiple posts with people's reviews here state that this is a normal card and no raid possibilities. I have now wasted my time purchasing this card because of so many people stating this is something it is not.

Manufacturer Response:

***Important***

Yes, this is a standard SATAIII controller without any RAID features.

No RAID features are advertised for this controller card here on Newegg or on our website.

If you would like a similar card that supports RAID please contact our support team so that we may provide you with a few options that support your configuration.

5 out of 5 eggsworks fine in unRAID 6.0.1

Pros: This really is a plug and play peripheral. I ran out of 6 SATA connector on my system board and this card is the perfect expansion for my need. Now I can add 4 more drives if I need to.

Cons: none

1 out of 5 eggsDifficulty with Windows 7

Pros: None-

Cons: First unit would either freeze BIOS or BSOD after Windows 7 started. Newegg RMA'd it no questions asked. Second unit same exact thing. Tested both on different computers with different brand motherboards. Only similarity is the OS.

2 units tested tested on 2 different brand motherboards, 2 units BSOD

Other Thoughts: Now that I see this card will not work with Windows 7 and want to return it, Newegg wants to charge a 16% restocking fee!? Maybe Syba can help out with this....

Manufacturer Response:

We apologize for your dissatisfaction with this controller card.

4 out of 5 eggsCheap, but works

Pros: 4 ports with RAID support

Decent menu options during boot, somewhat easy to configure RAIDs

Detected by Windows, make sure to check and install drivers if needed.

Cons: Because it is an x2, this can take up some of your larger PCI-E slots, and since most motherboards now seem to have just x16s and x1s, you may lose one of your x16s to this.

Other Thoughts: I run this with a RAID 0 with 2 SSDs, and have not seen issues with it when installed.

Would have preferred this being a x4, so that it can max out the slot it is on (x16 running in x4), but an x2 should work

I have not tried using this to boot from, as I have the motherboard doing this.

This card is being used to add additional RAID support to my machine, as this was the key reason for getting it. If you just need more ports, Syba offers an x1 that adds 2 SATA 6Gbps that works better for that job than this.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat value

Pros: cheap
decent speeds
works with FreeNAS and OSX

Ive been using this card in a 6x disk RAIDz2 system without issue for over a year

Cons: cheap?

Other Thoughts: great card if you are not looking for high-end performance. Common chipset so driver support is pretty decent across many OS/distros

4 out of 5 eggsSyba SI-PEX400064

Pros: Ok, you bought a new hard drive, SATA 3, but your motherboard is only SATA 2?
This card will BOOT your SATA 3 drives? DOUBLE the transfer rate. Just needs a PCI-E 1x slot! Card has 4 SATA-3 ports.

Cons: Haven't found one yet? It does what it says!

Other Thoughts: GREAT way to get SATA-3 on an older board with newer drives? 4 ports, SATA-3, noticeably faster.

5 out of 5 eggsHandy to have on hand

Pros: 4 SATA ports 6.0Gb/s. PCIE 2.0 backward compatible with 1.x

Cons: None that I've found

Other Thoughts: Bought to keep my old rig running. 5yo system sata ports started dropping out randomly. Dropped this in and worked flawlessly. No drive dropsouts since install. Reccomend if you want an inexpensive solution to keeping an older system running or just have a need for more sata ports.

5 out of 5 eggsWonderful

Pros: Plug and play in win7x64 straight into jbod no prob

all 4 devices recognized and working

Cons: none, perfect for my needs

Other Thoughts: I have three sata II hdds and 1 bluray player hooked up to it

the card is plugged into a pci express 2.0 x16 (4x actual) slot

the name of this device in the device manager under the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers section is "Standard ACHI 1.0 Serial ATA Controller" -before driver installation. (so right click that and update drivers to install driver)
