5 out of 5 eggsWonderful

Pros: Plug and play in win7x64 straight into jbod no prob

all 4 devices recognized and working

Cons: none, perfect for my needs

Other Thoughts: I have three sata II hdds and 1 bluray player hooked up to it

the card is plugged into a pci express 2.0 x16 (4x actual) slot

the name of this device in the device manager under the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers section is "Standard ACHI 1.0 Serial ATA Controller" -before driver installation. (so right click that and update drivers to install driver)

1 out of 5 eggsDoesn't work with Ubuntu

Pros: Its hard to find a pro when it doesn't work.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: card arrived exactly as pictured

Cons: first car was physically damaged and rma'd with an un damaged one that too did not function at all. Installed this card on two different computers and windows did not see it as described at all. both cards were doa.

Other Thoughts: while many posts sow this card as a good solution to adding some exra 3.0 ports to an older mother board it does beat out getting a new mother board which I eventually did. stay away from this product.

5 out of 5 eggsok

Pros: Cheap and fills the job need for.

Cons: issues with drivers when running more than one... at least on my system. doesn't like to detect it , even when you manually install driver , or force it , or anything.. I don't recommend 2 card in at once at this point.. may solve this issue when I am bord.

Other Thoughts: should have just went with a sata expander card

4 out of 5 eggsneeded for more drives in a storage server

Pros: Quick and easy install, didn't need the driver disc (good because the server has no optical drive) detected the drives I plugged in quickly and seems to be working rather well.

Cons: none as of yet

Other Thoughts: Good idea for a storage rig to add 4 extra ports.
I'm not playing with RAID until i have the server on a decent UPS first.

1 out of 5 eggsCheap Junk card

Pros: works as a paperweight, object to take or frustration out on or just something to remind you to spend a little more for a better product

Cons: doesn't work as a raid card, doesn't get recognized by anything, and doesn't cost enough to justify shipping it back to newegg

Other Thoughts: spend a little more and get a real raid card.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We apologize for the issues you have experienced with this controller card.

Please note that this ist a standard controller card and not a RAID card, this is reflected in the specifications.

Though you can create software RAID if its supported by your OS.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks with NAS4Free

Pros: - What RM said is important. Applying this to the card, it can fill those little, itty-bitty PCI-e 1x slots on your motherboard because it is a PCI-e 1x card.
- Works with NAS4Free and have used it recently, fully loaded in an 11 HDD NAS. I have encryption, ZFS RAIDZ1 and ZFS compression all on four green WD 2 TB HDDs through this card [<rant>Why spend more on red WD HDDs when green WD HDDs on a home NAS are just fine? Notice I said home? Have been running green WD HDDs for nearly 10 years in 24/7 NAS' [I have four] and no issues but lower electricity bills.</rant>)
- SATA 6 GB/s
- Supports port multipliers (but I've never tried it)

Cons: - I always connect the SATA card I have in my NAS' to the power LED of the computer case so I can see HDD activity. Thus the case HDD light is for a 6x HDD RAIDZ1 array connected to the motherboard (has 6 SATA connectors) and the Syba SI-PEX40064 connects a 4x HDD RAIDZ1 array to the case power LED. The con is I had to solder in paperclip wire to the card's HDD activity connection to connect the case' power LED connector and what is seen is an always on light that blinks when there is activity. Typically a HDD light is off and turns on during activity only (not just blinks). The case LED now shows me power AND the 4x HDD array activity. Super minor con, I admit, I wish there were pins for those case LED connectors.

Other Thoughts: - Have had the card for years and works everywhere. Most importantly it has always worked with NAS4Free with all kinds of green WD HDDs.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks

Pros: Needed more sata ports to add HDD's to an unRaid array. This was plug and play and it works as good as the ports on the motherboard. Immediately recognized at boot up. No issues at all. Cost. Would highly recommend for use in an unRaid setup.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Don't know how well it works in a raid or windows environment. Just know it works for my unRaid setup.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great Misleading specs

Pros: Card works great. I did see an improvement on R/W speeds for SSD, Read over 100mb/s increase. SATA hard drive doubled the transfer speed for a 1.5gb file as a test. The card uses a PCI E x1 pinout. Yes, it is compatible with SATA III, you just won't get the throughput due to the PCI E x1 technology. Card is inserted in a PCI ex16 slot on a Asus A55BM-E motherboard, AMD A8 GPU. AHCI enabled. Value is there for the price.

Cons: Specs should be better written. When SSD is attached to the card Windows will not see the card as an SSD, it does see the drive. TRIM may be turned on although it will not work. If the SSD is attached to the motherboard SATA port TRIM works.

Other Thoughts: Buyer beware.
