2 out of 5 eggsGood Perf but not perfect

Pros: Performance - I provide tech support for several systems using this controller and I'm getting 2400 MB/sec sustained write speed (continuous >1TB...not just a buffered burst) to 4 SSD drives with this board.

Smokin fast :)

Cons: 1) FPGA Runs warm...don't ever let Areca board go without air or they will cook themselves and die

2) Their BIOS is extremely annoying when/if you run into a problem. On bootup It always counts 0, 1, 2, 3... till it recognizes all the drives in the system. Typically 30-40 seconds, but if there is any problem with any of the will be waiting till it gets to 300 and you can NOT bypass it and boot your os even if your drives are on a different disk. There's no reason why a loose sata cable (for instance) should completely halt your computer dead in it's tracks and block your boot especially on a RAID controller which is supposed to provide you speed + redundancy ie. help reliability.
3) If you ask their tech support about will not get a reply, at least I never did and I've asked twice.
4) Long boards that need a lot of room and if you have a portable-ish system they don't travel well. Very hard to mount without flexing/twist/bending/bouncing.
5) kinda pricey

Other Thoughts: Despite the drawbacks they do perform well. I'm online now ordering a replacement for a unit in the field that has died because I know it's one of the few controllers that can keep up with the huge volume of data we need it to throw at it.

5 out of 5 eggsImpressive performance so far

Pros: 1802 MB/s read 562.4 MB/s Write on 12 4TB 5400RPM Drives in RAID 6.

Cons: None to mention at this point. I am concerned with premature failure, as other review authors mentioned, but folks who experience premature failure are also the same people who feel motivated to write newegg reviews.

Other Thoughts: Working great thus far. Controlling my PLEX Libraries. Upgraded from an areca 1223-8i card. I will likely buy another as the last two generations of areca cards have been good to me.
Newegg needs to implement a review system similar to a m a z o n so we can know whose reviews are real and who is having a hard time and ranting. Newegg reviews are often misleading because the people who post them are not experienced and/or qualified to use the hardware they are reviewing.

5 out of 5 eggsRuns like a charm

Pros: Runs so smoothly don't even know its there. Setup was a fairly straight forward. Manual is invaluable. Been running a 6 disc RAID 10 + 1 spare for nearly a year. It is Hyper-V server running a Dev/Test network of 10 virtual Servers.

Cons: None really. Does take about 30 seconds for the raid to initalize during startup/reboot.

Other Thoughts: Will definitely buy again

1 out of 5 eggsHoping it was just bad luck...

Pros: Looks nice, big heat sink, 4gb of memory... abundant list of options to customize

Cons: Died in less than 24 hours - so now waiting for stock to show up again so I can get a replacement.

Not sure if it was sitting on the shelf for a while, but the box certainly had a decent layer of dust on it as if it was in the warehouse for a couple months on it's own.

Other Thoughts: Very excited to put together my 12 disk SSD Raid, had it going, initial boot I saw it asking about setting it up. First I needed to update firmware on the SSD's, and right when I was about to put them on the Raid Card, the raid card disappeared and no longer appeared on startup. It no longer is being seen by the bios. Tried in another machine in case it was a bad slot on the motherboard, same deal... I've owned 6 or so of the areca cards in the last 7-8 years, this is the first to die on me. Hopefully it was just a fluke.
